BATH, NY: Donna Jean (Sprague) Bellomo, age 92, of Bath, NY died unexpectedly Saturday, October 28, 2023. Donna was born January 23, 1931, the daughter of the late Walter D. & Julia (Stickney) Sprague in the town of Wheeler, NY. She graduated from Prattsburg CSD & began her career working for the Bell Telephone Company (Verizon) until she retired after 30 years of service. She married the love of her life Michael Bellomo and they shared 58 wonderful years together until his passing in 2018. Donna and Mike shared a deep affection for cats and took in many strays over the years, giving them a loving home. Donna was a wonderful cook and avid reader. Donna is survived by her five siblings, Richard Sprague of Mountain View, MO, Nancy (Fay) Faucett of Savona, NY, Shirley Manuel of Dayton, WA, Joe(Kathy) Sprague of Thomasville, NC, Larry (Louise Smith) of Marion, NY. Donna has three generations of nieces and nephews. She loved her family and special friends Kathy, Rebecca, Christine and Ann. There was a private service at Fagan's Funeral Home at Bath on Friday November 3, 2023 with a burial directly after at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Prattsburg, New York. In lieu of flowers send donations in Donna's name to The Bath Humane Society, 72 Cameron Street, Bath New York, 14810.

PRATTSBURGH, NY: Kathleen Anne Bedient Bergstresser was born in Town of Orange, NY on November 20, 1932 to Vincent G. and Ella (Morrow) Bedient. She died October 25, 2023 at the age of 90. Kathleen graduated from Penn Yan Academy and Keuka College. She married Duane Bergstresser on December 28, 1957 and was a lifelong partner with him cultivating their vineyards and beef cattle. Kathleeen was a former tax assessor for the town of Pulteney and a bookkeeper for Prattsburgh Bus Lines. In their retirement years, she and Duane wintered in Dade City, Florida. Kathleen is survived by her son William (Cathleen) Bergstresser; daughter Pamela Bergstresser, grandchildren Nicole Campbell (Matthew Lafler), Ashley Bailey, Brianna (Mitchell) Allen and Haley Finch (Noah Hullings), and great-grandchildren Blake and Mackenzi Campbell, Lacie Bergstresser, Talon and Meah Bailey, and Kaislee Allen. She is survived by siblings Vincent D. Bedient, Norma Nelson, and Dawn (John) Medrek as well as several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, Vincent and Ella, husband Duane; infant daughter Barbara Ann Bergstresser and her dog Montana as well as siblings Mary Socola, David Bedient, and Zane Bedient, sister-in-law Modeste Bedient, and brothers-in-law John Socola and Howard Nelson. There will be no services per Kathleen’s request. Interment will occur at the Glenview Cemetery in Pulteney, New York. The Bishop & DeSanto Funeral Home, 35 Main Street, Hammondsport, New York is honored to assist Kathleen’s family with the arrangements. HAMMONDSPORT, NY: Debra A. Robbins, 72, of Grape Street passed away on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 following a long illness. She was born in Wellsville on April 9, 1951 to Earl and Patricia Robbins.
A graduate of Wellsville High School, she also completed coursework at Michigan State University and Penn State. Debra was a Latin teacher for the Geneva Central School District for many years. She also worked at Dr Konstantin Frank Winery for several years. Debra was predeceased by her parents and her husband of 31 years Edward Lancer. She is survived by a sister, Denise McKee of Youngstown Ohio and a brother John Robbins of Palmyra, New York as well as a nephew and several nieces. To honor her wishes there will be no services. In 1921, an American Soldier - his name “known but to God” - was buried on a Virginia hillside overlooking the Potomac River and the city of Washington. The Arlington National Cemetery burial site of this unknown World War I soldier became the personification of dignity and reverence for America’s Veterans. Similar ceremonies occurred earlier in England and France, where an “Unknown Soldier” was buried in each nation’s highest place of honor (in England, Westminster Abbey; in France, the Arc de Triomphe). These memorial gestures all took place on November 11, giving universal recognition to the celebrated ending of World War I hostilities at 11:00 AM, November 11th, 1918 (the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month). The day became known as “Armistice Day”. Armistice Day officially rec \eived its name in America in 1926 though a Congressional resolution. It became a national holiday 12 years later by similar Congressional action. If the idealistic hope had been realized that World War I was “The war to end all wars”, November 11 might still be called Armistice Day. But shortly after the holiday was proclaimed, World War II broke out in Europe and shattered the dream. Sixteen and one-half million Americans took part. Four hundred and six thousand died. The families and friends of these dead longed for a way to honor their memory.
