The stench that was being propagated from the Planning Board, via misin formation, has suddenly been jolted by a breath of fresh air.
In past articles I mentioned how lies were being put forth in an attempt to create a Us versus Them atmosphere in the village. A secret letter was sent out and signed by every member of the planning board aimed at inflaming hand-picked residents to initiate a culture war amongst neighbors. "Either you believe what we tell you or your must be an idiot." That was the mentality exuding from the board.
Luckily, the mayor sent a letter to all of the people of Hammondsport explaining the truth and the facts behind the issue of short-term rentals. And, she did it without the use of prejudice. She laid out the evidence and present ed it fairly for all of the residents to read, taking into consideration the con cerns of the residents, renters, and small businesses which rely on tourism in order to succeed.
Our village is unique and loved by everyone even outsiders, and it's easy to understand why. It is full of history and friendly people, and I worry that if we allow members of the board and others to diminish the positive effect that tourism has had these visitors will feel unwanted and unwelcome.
A lesson that we all can learn from this recent pandemonium is that the future of the village lies in the hands of local politicians, both elected and appointed. I have another foreboding piece of advice, "Beware of the wolf in sheep's clothing." There is at least one lurking. If need be, I will discuss more in the future.

On Friday, October 21, 2022, our treasured Dad and grandpa George R. Muller, passed away a few days after his 92nd Birthday to be reunited with his beloved "Honeybee", Patricia.
They celebrated 70 years of marriage on October 20, 2021 until her death in May of this year.
Together they raised four children: Mike (Debbie) Muller, Patrick (Linda) Muller, Cindy (Gary) Thompson and Tim (Deb) Muller. In addition to his four children he is survived by eight grandchildren: Eric Muller, Kelly (Tony) Dickson, Collin (Tara) Muller, Mitch (Nikki) Muller, Ryan (Sanjana) Thompson, Cassi (Katie) Thompson, Mandy Muller, and Nick Muller; Great-Grandchildren include: Spencer, Lillian and Lydia Dickson; Parker and Aspen Muller; sister: Betty Hopkins and sister-in-law Kitchie (Neal) Julien and over 100 nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents: Frank and Susan Muller Sr.; brothers: Charles (Esther) Muller, Frank and (Barbara) Muller Jr., Fred (Mary Ellen) Muller, Sister Phyllis (Ronnie) Nielsen; grandson, Anthony Muller; in-laws: Frank and Mary Shoemaker.
Our Dad was a meat cutter/butcher most of his life. He started out at the Kanona Slaughter House working side by side with his mother-in-law, Mary. He then worked at various Grand Unions until he purchased his own store in Avoca, NY from Dick Hunt in 1976. It was soon to be renamed "Muller's Market". Before long, his honeybee and two sons Patrick and Tim, joined him in this family business venture. They proudly served the community and surrounding area until 1993. To this day we have adults that come up to us saying they will always remember our Dad having Tootsie Rolls at the store that he would hand out to them when they were kids! It was truly a family orient ed environment. In addition to the store, the family owned business expanded, adding the Avoca Laundro mat and Carwash. Dad also loved playing the stock market and dabbling in real estate. George was a member of the Bath Elks, Avoca Lyons Club and past board member of the Bank of Avoca.
As a Grandpa, he was one of a kind! He was animated, full of life and always joking around. He taught the grandkids how to fish and eat their veggies. He had a genius way of convincing them to eat any food by prefixing it with "huckleberry". He was known for wrapping gifts with boxes inside of boxes. One of his favorite sayings was, "I'll see you on the late show OR if you can't find me there, look for me in the funny pages"!
As a family, though we will miss him, we are relieved that he is no longer in pain and suffering. We are grateful we were able to keep him home until his last few days where he entered Bampa's House, Corning, NY. A special thank you to all of his caregivers. He loved you all!

Dennis B. Faulkner Dennis Faulkner
BATH, NY: Dennis B. Faulkner, 79, passed away on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at Robert Packer Hospi tal in Sayre, PA. He was born on June 24, 1943, in Corning, NY. He was the son of the late Richard R. Faulk ner and Norma DeWert Faulkner.
Denny graduated from Haverling High School in 1963 and shortly thereafter, began his 43-year career as a NAPA salesman for Bath Auto. Denny and Joan Calkins had been together for over 40 years, married since July 6, 1991. He has been a longtime member of the Bath Elks Lodge, VFW Auxiliary and The Moose Club. He loved his home, working around the house and yard, and restoring his 1965 Corvette. He enjoyed spending his days mowing the lawn, fishing, drinking beer and waving to friends passing by. Denny loved his family, spending time at their cabin, as well as watching NASCAR.
Denny was predeceased by his parents, stepson Steve Ohradzanski and sister Sandra Dow. He is survived by his wife Joan Faulkner, his son Rick (Julie) Faulkner, daughter Tracy Davis, 2 stepdaughters: Carol Ohradzanski and Dawn Loveday, 11 grandchildren: James, Erica, Mackenzie, Avery, Mitchell, Avery, Jorden, Jenna, Jay, Raegan and Macy, great grandchildren Aspyn, Lux, Duke, Elliot, Emmett and Sawyer, sister Annette (Frank) Failing, as well as 4 nieces and nephews.
There will be a private burial at Valley View Cemetery, Avoca, NY. A celebration of Denny's life will be held on Friday, November 18, 2022, at 5:00pm at the Bath VFW.

HAMMONDSPORT:
Mr. LaVerne Frederick Erway of Hammond sport, New York passed away this past Sunday, November 6, 2022 at the age of 85.
Mr. Erway, a lifelong resident of Hammondsport, was born to James Erway and Lillian (Russell)
Erway on April 14, 1937, and was the sixth of eight children. In 1961 he married his wife Elizabeth Bondelyn Vandelinder (Bonnie) with whom he built a home and family over the course of their 61 years of marriage. In 1963 he began working at the Great Western & Taylor Wines where he worked faithfully for 34 years.
LaVerne was an incredibly proud American and a true lover of his home in the Finger Lakes, often sharing history, local stories, and tales of his family with his children and grandchildren. A man who took joy in simple things, LaVerne was born with, and maintained until his last days, a natural curiosity and enthusiasm, a youthful spirit, and a seemingly endless craving for ice cream. He was also a life-long fan of the NY Giants and Yankees. He took the most joy, however, in his family, especially his children and grandchildren, and was proud of the lives they built. LaVerne served as a quiet, but steady force that anchored a family spread across the state and country. The Erway family will not be quite the same without him, but his legacy of sacrifice, hard work, and quiet love will be held dear by those he left behind.
LaVerne is preceded in death by his siblings: Evelyn Perry, Eldora Messick, DeVillo Erway, Phyllis Howard, Elwood Erway, Ronald Erway, Lyman Erway and two of his six children, Brian Erway and Bruce Erway. He is survived by his wife Bonnie and four of his children and their spouses: Thomas & Mandy Erway of Madison, Alabama, Diane & Kieth Morlan of Hammondsport, New York, Terry & Renee Erway of Bath, New York, and Michael Erway of Hammondsport, New York. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
A grave-side service was held on Saturday, November 12th for immediate family, followed by a celebration of life at the American Legion in Hammondsport, 8245 NY-54, Hammondsport, 2:30-4:30 PM for family and friends.
