In the last edition of this newsletter I spoke about how some appointed officials wield their authority to slant the information presented to select residents of the village with the intent to rile them up.

A letter was recently sent out from the Planning Board to only their favorite audience. The reason for this needed further explanation. And, when asked, the Chairman could not invent a proper or logical response and proceeded to tell the questioner to "shut up" and then resorted to name-calling.

Below you will find a section of the official minutes of the meeting.

PUBLIC COMMENTS: DL asked about approval of other application. CR are you a village/town assessor. DO yes. CR why did you choose to send letter to only to certain targeted individuals, not to the Mayor and not to all taxpayers. DO told CR to shut up and called CR a derogatory name. CC intervened to ask for an adjournment.

Decisions which affect all of us are being made and promoted by individuals who believe that only their opinions matter. Understandably, politics are not for everyone, but complacency will allow these folks to get away with whatever they want, and what they want may not be for the good of the village regard less of how they try to disguise it.

Samuel H. Presley, Jr.Samuel H. Presley, Jr.

KANONA, NY: Samuel H. Presley, Jr., of Kanona, NY, passed away at Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua, NY, on October 3, 2022 after a brief period of hospitalization. Sam was born in Bath, NY, on January 14, 1949 to Hilda Minson and Samuel Presley, Sr. He attended Hammondsport Central School and Corning Community College.

Sam retired from Signs Plus of Kanona and enjoyed outdoor activities such as hunting and fishing. Sam also enjoyed volunteering as an assistant to Santa Claus in the holiday season. He had previously worked for Clark Specialty Co. Inc., New York State Electric and Gas, and Finger Lakes Gas Company. Sam was also a proud member of the Kanona Volunteer Fire Depart ment and the code enforcement officer for the town of Wheeler. He also served as vice president and president of the Hammondsport Central School board and also served as an officer in the Sons of the American Legion, Post 407 in Hammondsport.

Sam is survived by his wife Vicki (Mapes) Presley, his children Sam Presley III, Erin Presley (Crystal Fox), and Christopher Presley (April Palermo), as well as his stepson Dennis Loucks, brothers Gene Patterson, Dean Patterson, sister Elizabeth Presley, grandson Lauchlan Presley, and step grandchildren, Cobey Palermo, Alys Derby, Aaron Sadler, Amber Loucks, Faith Loucks and Lacey Loucks, and his aunt Edith (Dalbey) Chatterton, and stepmother Ruth (Dalbey) Presley, nieces Emily (Patterson) Burdin, Jillian Patterson, Jamie (Presley) Batson, Jenna (Presley) Morlan, Carly (Presley) Putnam, Jordan Presley, Adrianne Presley and nephews Loren Council, Jared Patter son, Michael Patterson and Jalen Presley.

He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Kurt Presley and Thomas Presley, and numerous aunts and uncles.

A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday October 23, 2022 at the Kanona Volunteer Fire Department in Kanona, NY, from 1:00PM to 5:00PM. In lieu of flowers, please consider donat ing in his name to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital or the Kanona Volunteer Fire Department. Arrangements are being handled by Bond-Davis Funeral Home of Bath, New York.

ATHENS, MICHIGAN: Robert William Arnold, 85, of Athens, Michigan and formerly of New York, passed away at his home on September 12, 2022, surrounded by his family. The day of his passing marked his 85 th birthday.

A celebration of his life will take place on October 23rd , 2022 at the VFW Post #1470, at St. Rt. 54 in Bath, New York. A social time will begin at 2:00pm and a service honoring him, will begin at 3:00pm.

Bob was born on September 12, 1937, to George and Mary Arnold in Eagle, NY and spent the early part of his life on the family farm in Kanona, NY.

In 1957, he married Ruth Saltsman and together they had three children, Robert E. (Cindy) Arnold of Tekonsha, MI, Debbra (Randy) Comstock of Avoca, NY, and Lori (Bob) Eggleston of Bath, NY. After that marriage ended, he resettled to Michigan.

In 1981 Bob married Nancy (Calladine) Arnold and they shared 40 wonderful years of marriage until Nancy’s passing in 2021. His family now includes his step-children, David Carter of Athens, MI, Karen (Mike) Smith of East Leroy, MI, Thomas (Cindy) Carter, of Union City, MI, Kathleen Carter-Jordon of Battle Creek, MI, and James Humphrey of Burlington, MI.

Bob proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1956-1960 and was stationed at Ft. Custer Air Force Base in Battle Creek, MI. During his service he received a good conduct medal.

Bob was an extremely hard worker all his life. He began his employment at Ingersoll- Rand in New York, then after moving to Michigan, he worked at Gresley’s in Battle Creek, MI and Davis Brothers Truck Stop in Tekonsha, MI. He transported travel trailers independently over many years and later worked for Jett Transporta tion hauling trailers by semi. He enjoyed the open road and traveled all over the United States hauling camping trailers until his retirement.

When he was in New York, he was active in the CB club, the snowmobile club, enjoyed square-dancing and camping with his family.

Bob played a very active role within his family and community. He was an extraordinary mechanic and was always there to help his family and friends with their mechanic needs.

He and Nancy enjoyed working in their yard, garden and flower gardens, and watching the wildlife in their yard. He was a very spiritual man, and his faith was very important to him.

He is survived by his children, a sister, Esther Bowen of Bath, NY, 18 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great grand child. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Nancy.

He and Nancy’s ashes were laid to rest in Ft. Custer National Cemetery, in Michigan along with a military service on September 19, 2022.
