HORNELL, NY: Pauline Sherwood Coots, age 90, formerly of Bath, NY died January 12, 2023 in Hornell, NY. She was born April 5, 1932, in Wheeler, NY the daughter of Daniel and Florence (Foster) Sherwood. She was a Davenport Home girl and had many cherished friends from there. Polly retired from the Veterans Administration.

She was predeceased by her sons Calvin "Skip" Coots Jr. and Dennis Coots; husband Eugene Lodge; brother Bill (Joyce) Sherwood; sister Genevieve and infant granddaughter Aimee Rose Coots; and father of her children Calvin “Curt” Coots Sr. She is survived by her sons, Joseph (Kathryn) Coots and Steve (Kathleen) Coots; grandchildren, Tracy (Joseph) Wallace, Nicole (Tony) Grodis, Dan (Mel) Coots, Sherry (David) Hutchess, Jennifer (Bill) Davis, Sabrina (Christopher) Elliott, Allen (Samantha) Coots, Adam (Cori) Coots and Amanda (Ryan) Ratchford; many great grandchildren; her brother Bob (Betty) Sherwood and daughter-in-law, Paula Coots.

Ruth Kendall

BATH, NY: Ruth Kendall, 86, formerly of Bath, New York, passed away on January 8, 2023, at the Corning Hospital.

Ruth was born on March 11, 1936, in Scranton, PA, and is the daughter of Charles and Mary (Krokowski) McKelvie.

She graduated from Ilion High School and earned her Bachelor's degree in Education from Houghton College and a Master's degree from SUNY Cortland. While at Houghton, she met her husband, Frederick E. Kendall, both studying music and education. They were married on August 17, 1957, in Ilion, New York.

Ruth was an avid reader and favored mystery novels.

She loved gardening and growing seedlings to plant in the garden she dedicated to her mother. Any day you might find her watching birds through the front window, with the weather channel, a tennis match, or a Hallmark movie playing in the background. She was a loving, caring person who was always thinking of others and enjoyed Sunday services as a member of Victory Highway Wesleyan Church in Painted Post.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband Frederick, sister Lois Malone, and brother-in-law Elton Balcom. She is survived by her loving daughter Kristen Kendall, of Bath, NY; her son Daren Kendall, of Wooster, OH and grandchildren Dylan Kendall and Angie Moreno; her brother-in-law, Ed Malone, and sister-in-law, Carol Balcom. Nieces and nephews, Seth (Kirsta) Malone, Beth (Shawn) Broome, Erin (Jason) Vidas, Jeff (Tara) Balcom, and Tracy (Darin) Crabtree.

A Celebration of Ruth's life will be held on Saturday, February 18th at 1:00PM, at Victory Highway Wesleyan Church, 150 Victory Highway, Painted Post, New York 14870. Pastor Ted Roloson will be officiating.
