DENNIS FRANK WALTER NORMAN BUTTON KROPP BATH, NY: Walter Norman Button passed away on March 7, 2024.

The son of George F. Button and Leona M. Storms, he was born on January 19, 1930, in Tioga, Pa. Shortly after, he moved to Tuscarora (Addison) where he spent the next 18 years.

Walter, aka "Dick", was a resourceful child. By the age of 6, he was hunting to put food on the table.

He also spent time visiting the surrounding area's farmer's wives, who would feed him lunch and send him home with food for his family. Their husbands would always find odd jobs for him to earn a little money.

At the age of 18, he joined the army to support his mother and began an adventure that would define his life. Sent to Japan, he entered engineering school, which led to a 27-year career as a combat engineer.

He was temporarily reassigned to artillery and sent to Korea, where he was injured in a bomb explosion, causing him to spend several months in the hospital with total amnesia. He was part of the 70th Engineer Battalion A (Kodiaks), the first engineer unit to land in Vietnam in 1965, ultimately completing two tours.

A sidenote: a month after their arrival in Vietnam, radio silence was broken to announce the birth of his daughter. Later, he was stationed in Heidelberg, Germany, and there he achieved an honor that he was extremely proud of; after completing an expansion to the International Girl Scouts Center, he was made an honorary girl scout for life.

After 27 years, he retired and went to work for the Bath Veterans Administration. Starting in the cemetery, he went on to become the supervisor of the garage and vehicles. During his 18 years at the VA, he was employee of the year and month on several occasions. Upon retiring from the VA, he drove a bus for the ARC for the next 10 years. He truly loved seeing "his kids" every day.

He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Sommer Button; his parents; and his thirteen brothers and sisters. He is survived by his two daughters, Janet and Lynda; three grandchildren, James, Jessica and Danielle; thirteen great grandchildren; and twelve great-great grandchildren.

On Saturday March 23, at 10:00AM, a graveside military funeral will be held at Nondaga Cemetery in Bath, New York. Afterward, all are welcome to join us for a memorial lunch. Location to be determined and announced beforehand on Facebook or by contacting us.

on Saturday March 9, 2024 at Rochester General Hospital. She was born in Bath, NY on January 19, 1943 the daughter of the late Lawrence Baker and Helen Ford Baker.

She was predeceased by her parents and husband, Norman A. Canute Sr. She is survived by two sons, Richard Canute and Norman Canute Jr.; a daughter, Elaine Frederick; grandson, Braxton (Marisa Gian Fortune) Frederick; her brother, Bill (Patricia) Springsteel along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours are being observed on Saturday, April 6, 2024 from 2:00PM to 3:00PM at the Bond-Davis Funeral Home of Bath where her Funeral Service will be held at the conclusion of calling at 3:00PM. Private burial will be held at Pleasant Valley Cemetery Hammondsport, New York.

BATH, NY: Dennis Frank Kropp, 58, of Bath, NY, passed away on March 8, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones.

Dennis was born in Bath, NY to Dean and Janice (Dickinson) Kropp on July 15, 1965. He graduated from Savona Central School in 1983 and served in the United States Army following graduation. He worked as a maintenance/handyman for several years. He enjoyed the outdoors and especially fishing and hunting.

Dennis is survived by his mother, Janice Kropp; sister, Lauren (Bub) Robords; the mother of his children, Tammy Kropp; two sons; daughter, Samantha (Allen) Coots; and granddaughters, Lola and Darby Coots. He is preceded in death by his father and infant son Jacob Dennis.

MELLISSA S. DUNHAM BATH, NY: Mellissa S. Dunham, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2024, at the age of 75 in Bath, NY. Born on July 17, 1948, in Avoca, NY, Mellissa was a beacon of light and warmth to all who knew her, illuminating the lives of many with her creativity and kindness.

Mellissa's life was one of active engagement and service, as evidenced by her dedicated involvement with the Women's Auxiliary at the Waterloo American Legion Warner-VanRiper Post 435.

Artistically gifted, Mellissa was an imaginative soul whose creative designs brought beauty to the world around her. Her artistic talents were not only a source of personal joy but also a gift she shared freely, leaving a legacy of beauty in her wake.

She is survived by her son, Shannon and his wife Becky Fairbrother; her grandchildren, Natosha Ward, Bryce Bradeen, Artesia, Nichole, and Shadow Fairbrother; and her cherished great-grandchildren, C.J., Timber, Jaylen, Autem, Colen, Paisley, Braxton, Skyla, Cadence, and Chasen. She also leaves behind her sister, Bonnie, and her husband Steve Shaver; her sister-in-law, Annamae Drake; as well as several treasured nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by her dear son, Curtis Fairbrother; her parents, Mervin and Pearl (Hemus) Drake; brothers, Henry and Montie Drake; and sisters, Terry Ruiz, Mona Nash, and Mollie Stryker. Mellissa now joins her loved ones in eternal rest.

Mellissa S. Dunham's life story is one of love, creativity, and service. Her legacy is one that will be honored and celebrated by all who were touched by her remarkable spirit.
