We visited Kew Gardens. One highlight was the tree top walk
Where we looked how public gardens are laid out, and what features they have
We worked on individual ideas, as well as collaboratively as a ‘design team’
We took measurements of the garden area and worked with scaled plans.
We used mixed materials including clay, plasticine, balsa wood, glue, pins
This worked like a doll’s house, where we placed all the models we had created
Now work has begun outside, clearing the site and constructing raised beds
And construction work begins. Its a long way across the school field
We hired a generator to power the circular saw and used a sledge hammer and pick axe To build the steps with. We also built a compost bin and a small table for water storage
Building steps, painting tyres, constructing raised beds and putting petrol in the generator
We used willow to create archways and mypex sheeting to stop weeds growing through, and we have raised beds for growing vegetables
The original table was stolen and had 4 legs and was sawn off where the wood went into the metal spikes. The 2nd table has two legs and a perimeter fence has been installed
Then we planted flowers in them and arranged them over the new garden site
Our garden includes: seating, a table, trellis, willow archway entrances, a willow fence, 16 steps, bark flooring, 2 raised beds, water storage area, compost bin and planting schemes. We will finish with a celebratory BBQ for VIP’S only.
