We’re all saying goodbye in this issue — whether that’s for the summer or for a while as we move away and start new chapters in our lives. (And this is why we’re using our baby photos. We’re going back to the beginning.)

If you’re in Norman for the summer, pick up the May 15 issue for stuff to do while your friends are gone.

Whether you’re packing your bags to leave for the summer or to leave while you go start that new chapter after graduation, this issue will give you some ideas of how to say, “Au revoir!” (And you don’t have to speak French, either.)

What are you doing? Saving it to see if it’ll be worth something years from now? Get it out and decorate (p.

10). Also, it’s unlikely you’ve done the items on our offthe-wall bucket list (p. 8). Just don’t get arrested. And don’t make me your one call if you do.

I want to leave you all with a piece of advice I learned in my five years here: Decide who among your friends are genuine and hold fast. Finals are here and then we are set loose for the summer, many jetting off to luxurious internships and vacations.

We hope you have a blast wherever you go and whatever you do. Just take advantage of the time off to revamp, recharge and relax.

We have one more issue, and then we too will go our separate ways. But don’t fret because ESCAPE is here to stay. So see ya next fall!

Whether you’ve been on campus for four (or five, or six, etc.) years or are just beginning, there is more to do on campus than just the normal stuff.

Of course everyone’s going to go take a photo in the Spoonholder, walk under the Clock Tower and go to a football game.

That’s pretty obvious stuff, so that’s why we’ve compiled this list of unique and off-the-wall bucket list items to check off before you graduate.

For those of you walking across the stage Friday night, you better hurry up.

ust a quick and sincere letter of thanks and appreciation as I wrap up my college experience for the support OU students and the university community have provided to our basketball program during my three years here in Norman and for the way you treated my family and me.

I know it’s been a long time coming as far as getting our program back to where everyone is used to it being and where everyone expects it. You showing up to our games and supporting us gives us a big advantage, and we appreciate that more than you know.

I’ll always remember the Texas and Kansas games this year when that student section was packed.

The celebration on the court after beating Kansas was a tremendous experience for everyone involved and is something that we players will never forget. The students were absolutely crazy that Big Monday in January when we beat Texas. You helped get us over the hump and on our way to a successful Big 12 season.

Our program is definitely headed in the right direction behind Coach Kruger. He’s doing an amazing job, and I see a lot of wins, NCAA tournaments and championships in the future. So keep up the support.

As I graduate and begin the next stage of my life with my wife and daughter, I just want everyone to know I’ll always be a Sooner. Thanks for making me part of your family and best wishes to all. photo: ryan phillips

Get crafty: The Painting If you fancy yourself an artist and have enough free time this week to get your craft on, go for it.

The great thing about making a gift rather than purchasing one is how personal it can be. Plus, you can buy a package of small canvas and a tube of paint, which both go a long way so in one afternoon you can make a gift for all of your graduating pals.

Wrap it up and pass it on.

Get sappy: The Handwritten letter Tell your friends what they mean to you and how much you will miss them after they graduate. Fill this letter with inside jokes and your favorite anecdotes. They’ll keep it forever. (Right?)

Get Nostalgic: A photo book Go to Walgreens and print all those photos and albums you have on Facebook and stock piled in your phone.

Organize them in a way that makes the most sense to you, chronoligically, by event, by outfits — it doesn’t matter as long as the graduate looks good.

You can tape them to pages in a notebook or buy a photo album, whichever you prefer. It is always nice to add dates and descriptions under the images. You could even include funny quotes if you have them.

Try funfetti cookies: 1. Buy the cake mix Yes. You read that right. You are making cookies with cake mix. They will turn out fluffier and so delicious.

You’ll need two eggs and one-third cup oil.

2. bake The oven will need to be set to 375 degrees. After you mix it all together, put dollops of the mix onto a cookie sheet and put in the oven for eight minutes.

3. Icing is a must Let the cookies cool. Then spread a good amount of icing over the top. Remember these are funfetti so sprinkle a good amount over the top of your finished product.

He will be visiting our beautiful campus where everyone from first-semester freshmen to Ph.D. candidates know the price of taking the words of others and passing them off as their own. And at OU, that price is a failing grade, suspension or even expulsion.

major: economics Jerod Coker, economics senior, browses Paul Krugman’s blog and flips through The Economist’s pages and suddenly, it hits him — it’s not the social issues that got him interested in the three Ps (professional writing, political science and philosophy). It was always economics articles that captured his attention.

“I just don’t get jazzed up over guns and gay marriage,” Jerod says. “What really jazzes me up is actually the really boring stuff like fiscal stimulus and monetary policy when you’re in the zero bound,” Jerod says.

While at OU, Jerod has always maintained a strong academic record, from winning the Marshall Scholarship to earning a perfect 4.0 and founding the Oklahoma Funding Accelerator.

“You can roughly predict someone’s success by their ability to delay gratification,” Jerod says. “So when I want to drink and play video games but I need to study, I study.”

Jerod plans to strike it rich through entrepreneurship before retiring as an economic policy maker.

When he’s not busy pondering economics issues and brainstorming solutions, Jerod can be found jamming out in his rock bands or escaping from it all with a motorcycle ride or a swig of beer he brewed himself.

Considering Jerod even stole inspiration for one of his band names, Conventional Wisdom, from an economist, it’s clear that economics is his true passion.

major: social work When friends and family face hardships, Gloriana Esparza, social work senior, is their go-to girl. Gloriana has experience supporting others, from making herself available to friends in need to interning at Integris Medical Center.

Integris shuffled Gloriana around to 11 different placements, from ICU to rehab., and she says she enjoyed the experience. With the 600-hour internship, her role as Undergraduate Social Work Association Vice President and her undergraduate degree behind her, she’ll enroll in graduate school, where she’ll focus on nonprofits and agencies.

Even when she’s taking a break from work or school, Gloriana insists on helping. She says she channels her stress into community service when life starts to get overwhelming. Unless she’s letting out the stress by cheering on her favorite sports teams or dancing the night away at a Beyonce concert, of course.

Someday, Gloriana dreams of traveling overseas for social work, like building wells and preventing domestic violence. In the U.S., she plans to give back and work at an adoption agency, a goal stemming from her family’s adoption of her sister.

“I hope to be in a place in my life where I feel like I’ve really helped people, I’ve really gotten to the underlying issues in our society and just really helped improve the quality of life for others,” Gloriana says.

major: petroleum engineering Trevor Ingle, petroleum engineering senior, looks out the window of his 33rd floor office in Bricktown, appreciating the aerial view of the Myriad Botanical Gardens and the wind turbines in the distance.

Trevor raked in success early, landing an internship with Devon Energy two years ago. Today, he works in the Devon Tower around 30 hours a week on top of 10 hours of coursework. And after graduation, he doesn’t have to worry about the job hunt: He’ll continue on at Devon.

When Trevor isn’t locating areas to drill and forecasting how much oil the well will generate as a reservoir engineer at Devon, he trades in his business casual dress for camo to hunt deer, coyotes and turkey. He enjoys hunting so much that he wasn’t even phased when a bobcat attacked him in 6th grade.

Trevor let his small-town roots propel him toward this future career path. Growing up around the oil industry, paired with his natural math and science skills, he became interested in the problem-solving aspect of petroleum engineering.

“If I won the lottery, I would still be a petroleum engineer,” Trevor says. “It challenges you to be a problem solver.

You have to jump over a different obstacle every day, and I like having to think like that.”

major: letters When a specific career runs in the family, while some rebel against it, Sam Clancy, letters senior, embraces it.

His dad was a physician, and his Irish grandfather had a medical degree.

His family’s medical background and his passion for helping others influenced his choice to pursue a medical degree.

As if medical school weren’t already hard enough, Sam decided to add a Juris Doctorate degree to the table.

“So, my joke is, when I tell people I’m doing the whole joint J.D./M.D. program … I’m going to be surgeon general and write, ‘Smoking kills’ on boxes of cigarettes,” Sam says.

In the end, Sam plans to help patients medically and legally by simultaneously treating patients and increasing their access to health care.

Sam says he has The Oklahoma Group, a student-run nonprofit consultant organization, to thank for showing him he didn’t have to wait to start helping people, however.

“I had this tremendous ‘Aha!’ moment,” Sam says. “I finally realized I don’t have to wait ’til I grow up to start to make a difference in the lives of others.”

But when Sam isn’t helping a variety of nonprofits as TOG’s president, he says he enjoys keeping his mind focused on the present with walks, deep breaths and a session of basketball in the Huff.

major: communication If practice makes perfect, it’s no wonder Keilani Ricketts, communication senior, has become such a successful softball pitcher — she’s been playing since she was 6 years old. It also doesn’t hurt that all three of her older siblings played collegiate sports, including sisters Samantha and Stephanie, who played collegiate softball.

Keilani has since made it to the collegiate softball national championship with OU’s team, earned the title of USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year and landed a spot on the U.S. women’s national team, among other honors and awards.

Keilani attributes her softball successes to being naturally built for the sport.

“I’ve been given a body that’s really strong and athletic, I guess ’cause I’m really tall compared to the other softball girls, and I’m able to use my athleticism to my advantage,” Keilani says.

Now, the only barrier standing between her and the Olympics is the fact that softball is no longer an Olympic sport. But Keilani is hopeful this could change by the 2020 games.

When she isn’t channeling her competitive nature into softball, Keilani says she plays a few rounds of Candy Crush, a smartphone game. Other than that, she enjoys spending time with family and playing softball, softball and more softball.

“I’m a boring person,” Keilani says.

“Softball’s my life.”

I came from California to the University of Oklahoma with too many boxes of clothes from American Eagle and too many movies I’d never watch. I had a flip phone about to break, a hanging collage of high school photos and my high school yearbook. There were too many trinkets I’d eventually leave at home, after realizing I clearly had a lot to figure out.

Four years, five jobs, a dozen trips and three clubs later, I’ve acquired some life hacks the rest of you should keep in mind in the fun times you have left: •• Whether you’re a frat star or a burnout, socialist or Republican, Jew or Rastafarian,

You know that book, “All My Friends Are Dead?” Well this is the college version of that, All My Friends Are Graduating.

At the end of this week I will be sitting in the crowd and half-heartedly clapping as my friends saunter across the stage procuring their degrees. Don’t get me wrong I am so happy that they are graduating. I have been crafting for the last two months making grad gifts, but I really don’t feel like giving them out. In my eyes the longer I ignore the fact they are leaving, they just won’t go.

So not-seniors, this is how we are going to survive without these people: • We will band together and befriend each other.

• Skype. It worked years ago when we left High School, it will work now.

• Facebook groups are worth the time it takes to set them up. Instant conversation

queer or straight, it’s all good — unless you’re doing it to be like everyone else.

• All internships expect you to screw up. (Side note: learn to use a copy machine ASAP.) • You don’t have to be friends with everyone on campus. And you don’t have to be involved with everything, either.

• Tell someone you like him or her as soon as you’re sure.

• Putting a paper towel in the dorm dryers makes your clothes dry faster.

• Not good at making new friends? Take a deep breath, dry your tears and find a hobby.

I hear knitting is very therapeutic.

So now, with this knowledge on hand, I’m leaving OU — a closetful of greek shirts I’ll stop wearing, a guidebook to New York City I’ll someday use, a grownup suit, pairs of big-boy shoes and a registration for the dog sleeping on my floor.

Things have changed, even if I haven’t yet realized that part.

My friendships are about to be through a computer screen, welcome to the digital age. If you are going to be lonely like me, I am officially accepting applications for new friends (please include a cover letter). I can’t wait to meet my new BFF.

How can I stay intimate with my significant other while we’re both away for the summer?

Just stay in touch. The worst thing you can do is to stop talking just because you are in different cities.

Texting is not talking, just an FYI. Make phone calls!

I know this may be a foreign concept, but having a relationship consisting of LOL and OMG is not much of a relationship at all. (I say this hoping your signifigant other doesn’t use those sayings while speaking. If so, you have bigger problems.)

You should also plan a trip to visit each another. Go to one person’s house at the beginning of the summer and then the other’s house at the end. That way, you get to see each other a few times throughout the long break. Can’t afford two trips? Decide to go to the cooler destination.

If it just doesn’t seem worth it, take a “break.”

Leave campus unattached and go enjoy all those hunks hanging around the pool. Maybe even talk to one!

How can I stay intimate with my significant other while we’re both away for the summer?

Every good story starts with, “I have a friend who ...,” so please enjoy this little tidbit.

I have a friend who interned in Washington, D.C., about a year ago and her “boyfriend” (a.k.a the guy who she was talking to but who already had a girlfriend) lived in L.A. To stay in touch, they used the greatest invention of our generation: Skype.

Did I mention she was also stuffed into a dorm room with two other women? Yeah. That left very little room for personal space, so one night, she took her laptop into the bathroom and got down to business through Skype.

She swears by it.

So here’s what you need to do: Whenever the feeling hits, set-up an impromptu Skype date. But here’s a big tip: Have your sexy underwear on hand.

You never know when the feeling will hit.

How can I stay intimate with my significant other while we’re both away for the summer?

The youths today are doing “sexting.” This involves a thing called “snap chat,” where you get naked in your bathroom mirror and make some duck lips. So there’s always that.

Call me old-fashioned, but nothing beats a good ole’ steamy phone call — I just can’t handle those iPhone keyboards. So if you’re good with your fingers, but not your thumbs, follow these tips: 1. Get some props. A cold glass of scotch helps. You can swirl the ice cubes around and let your voice drop into a husky growl. Or if she’s a toaster-throwing, hair-pulling kind of gal, chomp on a cigar and tell her you’re going to do the “Billy Clinton.”

2. It’s all about the position. Get your creativity juices flowing.

You aren’t going to be able to put on a good show if you’re huddled in the handicap stall of a 7Eleven. Lounge on a patio under the stars, or wander a deserted natural landscape. It’s an art, not a science — so be a Mozart of the muff.

TV SHOWS to procrastinate with: “The Office” Unlike the rest of this lackluster final season, I will be sure to watch the groundbreaking workplace sitcom’s last hurrah, featuring a marriage months after Dunder Mifflin’s documentary (finally) aired. Sitcom history owes a lot to “The Office” — for embracing the comedy of awkward silence and having surprising heart often unseen in post-2000 sitcoms.

And for “that’s what she said.”

Penultimate episode airs Thursday at 8 on NBC “Mad Men” Now that it’s 1968, (spoiler alert!) Jon Hamm’s death-fearing Don Draper is finally back to his philandering ways with Lindsey Weir — sorry, I mean actress Linda Cardellini — so just maybe we’ll get back to the show’s glory days pre-SCDP and presideburned Pete Campbell. Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce now has a second floor, Don’s protégé Peggy Olson is striking out on her own at a rival agency and all the men are in Mod jackets. Did I mention that Pete has sideburns?

“The Great Gatsby” F. Scott Fitzgerald’s glittering 1920s love letter gets the big-screen treatment decades after Robert Redford’s lackluster 1974 version. In the vein of director Baz Luhrmann’s (“Moulin Rouge”) usual theatricality, we might just get the cinematic flamboyance typical of Jay Gatsby’s famous parties. And maybe Leo DiCaprio, who stars opposite Carey Mulligan, will get an Oscar this time around. Ha, who am I kidding? That old sport?

Music that is “HELPING YOU STUDY”: “Golden,” Lady Antebellum Like many of the group’s country peers, Lady A plays it safe on its fourth studio release, fueled by spiced-honey vocals of lead singers Hillary Scott and Charles Kelley. Lead singles “Downtown” and “Goodbye Town” hit the right notes as MOR twang-pop tunes meant for karaoke night or car-ride sing-a-longs.

“Volume 3,” She & Him The acting queen of the hipsters and a Portland singer-songwriter comprise the “she and him” of this indie-pop music project. Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward segue from the summery rockabilly of volumes 1 and 2 in their third album release save 2011’s Christmas record. Single “Never Wanted Your Love” offers easy listening with the “New Girl” actress’ breezy, rosy warbling and Ward’s crafty production.
