But first, let me take – a picture of my food. It’s no secret that many are annoyed by the often excessive snapshots of sustenance plastered up and down Instagram feeds. The food porn trend permeates most social media sites, but none more so than our beloved picture-sharing network, Instagram. While to these sharers it may seem as if sharing images of one’s meal is simply showing off their excitement over what they are about to consume, it usually serves no purpose other than making the rest of us hungry; or worse, hangry. According to one MomentFeed study, users posted 4,899 photos tagged with a Cheesecake Factory location on Instagram in an 18-day period! That breaks down to over 272 per day, and that’s just Cheesecake Factory-tagged photos. And so, in light of this predominance of food selfies, I offer an open letter to those perpetuating this cycle of exploiting innocent food to elicit stomach growls from those hungrily eyeballing these internet images.

My dear food photo sharers,

I come to you with upward facing palms and a hungry heart begging you to stop the madness. Not only are you letting your picturesque dish cool and accumulate common bacteria, but you are inducing hunger pangs in those you call you friends. The food porn industry is a growing concern among food critics and food enthusiasts alike. While this common practice may seem harmless, you are effectively degrading both the sanctity of social media and your delicious looking food.

An overwhelming proportion of college students agree their hunger levels increase while browsing Instagram due to the explicit food images so carelessly uploaded. If you have no affinity for the well-being of friends’ stomachs or the exploited food’s personal rights, then consider the potential job loss for apps and sites specifically dedicated for such practices, such as Yelp and FoodSpotting.

According to research by Business Insider, “Instagram had 40 times the number of photos taken at Chevy’s locations versus FoodSpotting.” These companies are losing posts, thus losing advertisers and, inevitably, losing jobs. Think of the children, friends!

If that isn’t enough to stop the culinary Instaspamming, consider the study published in the Journal of Consumer Psychology that proved constant visual stimulation involving foods actually decreases appetite for and enjoyment of said foods.

And so my Insta-brethren, I implore you to consider the ramifications of your posted food art and spare us all henceforth. As you can see, it has become a serious epidemic with far reaching implications.

Fuzzy’s Salsa

Your Favorites: On a Budget!

Ingredients: • 3-4 chopped tomatoes • Half can of tomato paste • 1 jalapeno • 4 green or red peppers • Cilantro

There are several popular dining spots in Norman many college students flock to, whether they’re craving food, drinks or appetizers. However, the majority of college students are trying to stay on a budget, and that can be difficult when constantly going out. A few of those restaurants agreed to help students save money by providing simplified recipes of their most popular dishes that could be easily replicated at home.

Jamba Juice’s Razzmatazz Smoothie

Panera Bread’s Frontega Chicken Panini

Directions: Place strawberries and bananas in blender.

Add orange juice and/or grape juice. Add half a cup of ice. Blend for 20 seconds or until well blended.

Ingredients: • Focaccia Bread • Smoked and PulledChicken • Mozzarella • Tomatoes • Onions • Fresh Basil Leaves • Chipotle Mayo

Directions: Place all of the ingredients on one side of the bread; place the other side of the bread on top; grill until cheese is melted.

Directions: Gather ingredients and place in bowl. Stir until everything is well mixed.

The employees are not required to know the names given for the following recipes, but it is not uncommon for Chipotle lovers to order these “secret” items:

What could possibly be more exciting than ordering delicious food and drinks from a great restaurant? Ordering secret food and drinks from a great restaurant! Norman has plenty of options when it comes to eating out, but there are a few hidden gems to look out for, even at the most popular establishments. Check out a few of these off-the-menu items.

Starbucks

Officially, a secret menu at Starbuck’s Coffee Company doesn’t exist. If you ask your local green-aproned barista to concoct a drink that cannot be seen on the overhead menus, a strange look might come your way. However, the chain does allow customers to customize their own drinks, and there are a few combinations that are quite popular among Frappuccino lovers. Just be sure to request your drink by giving the ingredients of the drink, not by its name. Here are some ways to order those “secret” items:

Captain Crunch Frappuccino 1. Get the Strawberries and Crème Frappuccino in any size 2. Ask for the toffee nut syrup

3. Get those Frappuccino java chips!

Cotton Candy Frappuccino 1. Ask for a Vanilla Bean Crème Frappuccino in any size 2. Order the beverage with raspberry syrup

The Ideal Campus Corner Progressive Dinner

In a food enthusiast’s perfect world everyone would share the common milk-cow’s biological trait of possessing four functioning stomachs for digestion, and thus, be able to dine to our heart’s (and stomach’s) content. While that may not be the case, we can dream and plan for such a happenstance. Campus Corner offers a wide variety of culinary selections from pizza to salad to liquid selections for the night owls among us; and so there is truly something for everyone. Let us take a few moments to consider an ideal repertoire of consumption grandeur on our very own Campus Corner. Be forewarned my fellow eaters, this endeavor is not for the faint of heart. However, this suggestion list would be a good starting point for any hungry individual. For the purposes of keeping focused on ingesting, not drooling, we will briefly explore the best dish for the following stages of eatery: appetizer, salad, entrée, dessert, coffee and drinks.

In this fantasy world we have thus far envisioned, let us start our consumption journey at Fuzzy’s Taco Shop, where we will treat our taste buds to their fantastically thick queso and chips appetizer. For the bolder among us, try adding Fuzzy’s famous “Butt Burning Sauce” to the queso for a dip treat you won’t soon forget!

In an attempt to lighten our initial food load, let us move on to Victoria’s Pasta Shop for a refreshingly concocted Caesar salad. With just enough crunch to assure you that the lettuce is extra fresh, and dressing creamy enough to uphold your high expectations, this salad is everything you need to justify the coming strain on your digestive system.

Victoria’s Pasta Shop prepared us for the coming entrée at Seven47, a reasonably priced club and restaurant with an upscale vibe. Seven47’s most popular dish per a simple Google search is its Big Boy, a simple dish with an Italian feel, comprised primarily of grilled chicken and roma tomatoes grilled to juicy perfection.

At this point you may be wondering if you could possibly eat another bite as long as you live.

But enjoy the classy atmosphere while you get your second wind, because that is exactly where we are headed next, Second Wind Coffee Shop, a non-profit funded by your donations for coffee.

Affectionately referred to as the “Living Room of Campus,” this spot is everything you need in a coffee shop with open mic nights, comfy couches, and lastly, the Affogato. This drink is two scoops of vanilla ice cream with espresso poured over them, leaving you with a delectable coffee/desert combo perfect for the busy college student, without the lag dessert usually leaves your body with.

If you can still stand, The Deli, a long-time local business on Campus Corner, is the perfect place to have a drink and perhaps see a band to wind down and digest at the end of your evening. A preference of mine is the LIT, but rest assured they can make your personal favorite to your specifications without skimping!

These are just a few of the offerings of Campus Corner, and there are many more to be explored.

But there is no shortage of other eateries like these to try out to your heart’s content during and after your college career. Happy eating!

For anyone who’s looking for a cleanse that won’t take more than 24 hours, the One-day Cleanse for Radiance is the perfect solution to quickly rid your body of toxins and flush out your system.

• First thing in the morning: Drink a large glass of hot water with a thickslice of organic lemon.
