hit the stands this weekend basketball stars returning to ou trent crabtree | basketball @trentcrabtree Former Sooner basketball greats are slated to return to Norman this weekend and reunite with former teammates, coaches and fans at the fourth annual OU Alumni Weekend.

The event begins Friday morning with the Tip In Club Golf Classic at Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club.

A Friday evening dinner will be held for the Wayman Tisdale Scholarship Fund on the main floor of Lloyd Noble Center, honoring 40 players who scored at least 1,000 points during their career.

According to Kruger, the alumni weekend is a way for past players and fans to reconnect and relive memories of multiple generations of the program.

“A lot of boosters and alumnus mention how fond their memories are,” Kruger said. “They have different memories for different players. I think it just makes everyone feel good.”

Since its inception, the event has grown in popularity and is one of the first sporting events to kick off the school year.

“They’ve been great,” Kruger said. “They’ve come back in bigger numbers every year and this will be our biggest turnout yet.”

Forty players from the 1,000-point club are expected to attend the event. The list includes notable names such as: Tony Crocker, Cade Davis, Choo Kennedy, Stacey King, Hollis Price and Terry Stotts, according to a soonersports. com press release.

A handful of other past players are also expected to attend.

SOCCER STARTS OFF WITH BEDLAM spenser davis | soccer | @davis_spenser The Oklahoma soccer team will open its 2014 season with a renewal of the Bedlam series Friday night.

It’s a unique way to start the season for the Sooners, who will begin a series of non-conference match ups following their game against the Cowgirls.

Oklahoma State will challenge OU right out of the gate, which is something the team seems to welcome.

“I think it’s the best home opener we could possibly have,” redshirt senior defender Molly Richey said.

“There’s so much energy with the team.”

The game will give the Sooners an early opportunity to make a statement, since the Big 12 coaches picked Oklahoma to finish last in the conference preseason poll.

Oklahoma State was picked to finish third, and during the game the Cowgirls will look to justify that ranking in Norman on Friday night.

The Sooners won’t just be looking for ranking-redemption. They will also look to rebound from a 4-13-1 season a year ago, which included a pair of defeats at the feet of their in-state rivals.

Unfortunately for OU, home field advantage at John Crain Field has not translated into success against Oklahoma State. The Sooners are just 2-8 against the Cowgirls in their last 10 match ups.

bedlam game, it will be their first victory in the series since 2012, when the Sooners stole a 1-0 victory in Norman. Alltime, OU is 3-19-3 against the Cowgirls.

“We have a lot to prove, but other people don’t know all the work we’ve put in this year,” sophomore forward Caren Nelson. “It was probably the best preseason that we’ve had. We have so much talent on this team, and we push each other to be better every practice.”

The Sooners will return eight starters from last year’s squad, but they will also be

welcoming in 10 true freshman and three transfers as part of a recruiting class that was brought in by head coach Matt Potter.

Potter, who arrived at OU in 2011, is excited to start the season against the Cowgirls.

“The opportunity to start any season is exciting,” Potter said. “To start with Bedlam obviously puts an extra twist on it.”

The game will start at 7 p.m. at John Crain Field.

It will be the only time Oklahoma State visits Norman this season.

campus museums The Sam Noble Museum of Natural History features the largest Apatosaurus on display in the world. The Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art showcases Native American and Southwest art among other collections. Both museums are free.

the decks in bizzell The decks are the older books in the library, so there is a lot of history on those shelves. One time, a friend of mine found an old letter in the pages of one of the books from the decks. Also, the decks are supposedly haunted. The library is open until 2 a.m., so if you’re looking for a scare, venture there around 1 a.m.

Free movies at the Union The Union Programming Board schedules movies in Oklahoma Memorial Union’s Meacham Auditorium every Friday and Saturday, so this is a great opportunity for a cheap date. “Neighbors” is playing this weekend. UPB always plans a good mix of genres, so if you aren’t feeling the movie this weekend, be sure to check out what’s playing next weekend.

Since the beginning of 2014, 20 cases of sexual assault have been reported to OU’s Title IX Office, and in May it was announced that 55 higher education institutions were under Title IX investigation. Although OU wasn’t involved, this shows sexual assault is an issue on many college campuses.
