Renovation Q&A

What is the renovation for?

The Naples Players opened our facility on 5th Avenue in 1998, after the City of Naples invited the theater to be placed downtown to rejuvenate and enhance the then-struggling area. 25 years later, The Naples Players is investing in our community once again - this time to protect and enhance the now thriving world-class arts destination.

By renovating both of our existing performance spaces and adding a third space to host our renowned education and community programs, TNP is able to deploy the latest technologies and ensure the highest quality performances, all while representing the high-class, small town charm that Naples deserves. But more than that, TNP’s renovation protects the organization’s future by securing our ability to meet current & future demand, while more deeply fulfilling our mission to build community through exceptional access to the power of theatre.

12 GRAND REOPENING EXTRAVAGANZA 2024

What is included in the renovation?

The entire facility has been renovated - stripped all the way down to its foundationsand in many places, having new foundations put in place!

By reimagining and redeveloping existing space, and redesigning the North side of the theater, we are able to add vital education, rehearsal, and performance spaces to fulfill our mission including:

The Kizzie Theater – A 452-seat proscenium theater with a balcony level

The Price Studio Theater – A 105-seat black box theater for major season programs

The Glass Educational Theater – A 105-seat black box educational theater

3 student rehearsal and classrooms with dedicated dressing rooms

2 adult rehearsal rooms capable of hosting workshops, readings & showcases

An expanded scene shop for volunteers

A state-of-the-art costume shop for volunteers

A brand-new “Green Room” volunteer lounge; usher lounge; and 6 new dressing rooms.

A community atrium with a café and information center open to the public during the day

A library full of plays, open to the public

A donor terrace

A “Sensory” Friendly viewing room

Much, much, more

Renovation Q&A

What does it mean to be LEED certified?

LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is the world’s most widely used green building rating system. LEED certification provides a framework for healthy, highly efficient, and cost-saving green buildings, which offer environmental, social, and governance benefits.

What has been the biggest hurdle during the renovation?

Costs of materials have skyrocketed. What was a $15m project is now close to $22m after COVID and Hurricane Ian - same materials, different years.

What can donors look forward to in the new space?

The new donor terrace will allow our donors to valet their cars, enter a private entrance, go directly to the terrace with a private bar, and then directly to their seats. It is a new level of service and comfort that is unparalleled in most places.

14 GRAND REOPENING EXTRAVAGANZA 2024

What can volunteers look forward to in the new space?

The new Green Room is nearly double the square footage, while the dressing rooms have been completely renovated for the newest lighting and technology. The usher lounge will provide lockers and a space to relax for our amazing usher core, while the renovated costume shop will have one of the best views in Naples!

What went into planning this renovation?

We began planning the renovated facility in 2018, and traveled across the country to view and learn from other new theater facilities that had been recently completed. Since then, the building has been continuously updated and designed to stay current with the best technologies and the newest trends.

How does TNP plan to aid local businesses and the community with this renovation? How is TNP incorporating the community into its renovation plans?

We’ve had great relationships with our neighbors, and will continue to by entering into partnerships with The Inn on Fifth, for example - to share their staff resources in housekeeping to keep the theater clean; while partnering with our neighbors for themed drinks and guest bartenders! But most of all, we know our patrons are an important part of the economic impact that TNP has on the other businesses downtown.

15 THE NAPLES PLAYERS 239.263.7990 NAPLESPLAYERS.ORG

At The Naples Players, we build community through exceptional access to the power of theatre.

Join us in the Fall of 2024 to celebrate the completion of our entire project!
