Kia ora Welcome to The Learning Connexion. We’re pleased to bring you another term of inspiring and hands-on classes in the visual arts, here at our colourful campus. Whether you’re a currently enrolled student, or coming along as a casual student just wanting to join some classes, we’re sure you’ll find something to tempt you to explore your creativity. This booklet gives you a brief insight into the content of the weekend, evening and kids classes that we run. You’ll find more in-depth information on our website, www.tlc.ac.nz, under ‘Study with Us’.
Creative Art Classes for Kids We run creative art classes for kids after school, during term time, and in the school holidays.
Kids’ Summer Art Holiday Programme 5-12 year olds Dates Week 1: 18th - 22nd Jan Week 2: 26th - 29th Jan - please note there is no class on Monday 25th Jan Wellington Anniversary day Times (attend one or both sessions) 9.30am – 12.30pm 1.30pm – 4.30pm Cost Half day: $30 Full day: $55 (1 hour lunch break fully supervised) Early drop off from 8:30am: $5 Late pick up until 5:00pm: $5

Weekend Classes 8th Feb - 28th Mar 10.00am – 4.30pm 30 minute lunch break These are a mixture of one, two, three or four day workshops run on weekends, during the term. Cost to casual students: 1 day weekend class = $90 plus materials 2 day weekend class = $180 plus materials 3 day weekend class = $270 plus materials

KIDS’ TERM CLASSES These classes offer kids a range of interesting, challenging and cool projects to complete. Each week kids will learn new skills, gain confidence and have loads of fun with our talented and dedicated tutor. $10 discount for return students. MONDAY CLASSES In this class kids will create a variety of different art projects. Each week, there will be a different activity ranging from painting,drawing, printing making, animation, sculpture, craft and more. Kids will learn new skills, gain confidence, play games and have loads of fun with our talented and dedicated tutor.
Our classes aim to build self-confidence, develop skills in creative thinking, experimentation, spontaneity and help students find their own creative voice. This is a great class for younger artists and is focused on experimentation, play and self expression. At the end of the term students will be able to submit art for a group art exhibition.
WEDNESDAY CLASSES In this class, students will work on a variety of painting, drawing and clay projects that could include but are not limited to 3D modelling, sculpting, expressive painting, drawing from life, dioramas, papiermâché, ceramics, crochet, screenprinting, drawing, design and more! Students are encouraged to develop their own art style, to experiment and try out different techniques.

This class is designed to enhance skills in creative thinking, problem solving, dexterity and self-expression. At the end of the term, students will be able to submit art for a group art exhibition.
THURSDAY CLASSES Our classes aim to build self-confidence, develop skills in creative thinking, experimentation, spontaneity and help students find their own creative voice.
This is a great class for kids who are more 3D focused and like to work with their hands. At the end of the term students will be able to submit art for a group art exhibition.

KIDS’ SUMMER ART HOLIDAY PROGRAMME | 5-12 year olds Whether you are working or just need a break, The Learning Connexion’s Kids’ Holiday Programme is timed just right to keep your kids happy, engaged and having creative holiday fun! Our holiday programme is taught by two experienced and wonderfully creative tutors. Held at our vibrant Taita campus, we provide children with an unforgettable authentic art school experience. This is a hugely popular programme, so book today to secure your child’s place. Our programme is now OSCAR approved, meaning that there are WINZ subsidies available if you need help meeting costs. Pop-Up Story books
Puffy Paint Ice-cream Art Learn how to make your own puffy paint, using glue, paint and foam. Create some summer 3D puffy dessert art to hang on your wall!
Design a Board game
Bubble and Foam Art Learn how to make marble paintings and bubble art using shaving foam and dishwashing liquid. Messy fun guaranteed!

Paper Circus Art Learn how to create moving 3D paper circus performers and design and build your own circus tent!

Silhouette Canvas Painting Create some sunset silhouette art using acrylic paint! We will be learning about blending colours and positive and negative space!

Summer Suncatchers Create a variety of different kinds of sun catchers including coloured animals and creatures and a framed ‘stained glass’ painting.
Cardboard Castle Fort Building In this class we will be learning about the middle ages and what it was like in medieval times! Make your own princess crown, or knight’s sword and design your own castle fort!

In this class, create your own fairytale 3D pop-up story book using basic paper folding and collage techniques. This is a great class for kids who love to cut out, collage and make up stories! Love playing board games? Ever wanted to make your own? Then this is the class for you! In this class you will learn how to design, decorate and play your own handmade game including making your own dice, spinners and characters.
Learn the basics of digital art from sketching, tracing and layering images. We will be using our new art tablets! Feel free to bring in your own device! We will be using Adobe Sketch, Illustrator Draw and Photoshop Mix that are all free to download at home!
Create a variety of fancy chocolates including carnival inspired candy to take home in a decorated festive box. Can be vegan-friendly - just let us know if you are vegan or have any dietary requirements.

Realistic Drawing Want to learn how artists make drawings look real? In this class we will be learning how to sketch and shade realistic cats, wolves and furry animals using pencils and charcoal.
Elastic Band Cars and Paddle boats Create an elastic band powered car or boat using a bit of engineering magic! Design, decorate and race with your friends!

Emoji Art In this class we will be learning how to draw cartoons, emojis and facial expressions! Create your own paper emoji squishy, comic or collage. We will also be looking at the iconic emoji artist, Yung Jake who creates art using only emojis!
Glitter Globes Create your own underwater glitter globe world using recycled jars, laminated images and loads of glitter!
Thursday
Glowing Dragon Eye Art Create your own shaded dragon eye drawings and a magical glowing dragon eye pendant from fimo and glass!
Tie Dye T-shirts Create some amazing colourful clothing using tie dye techniques. Bring any clothing/fabric, white or light coloured, (cotton fabrics work best).
Friday
Wacky Sacks and Magic Wands Always wanted to make your own juggling balls or stress balls? In this class we will be making a variety of squishy stress balls and wacky sacks using play dough, rice, coloured balloons as well as some colourful magic wands!
Circus Magic Learn some basic magic and circus tricks including balancing and disappearing objects, hula hooping and more! We will finish the day off with a circus show!
Please note: All classes need a minimum number to go ahead. If a class is cancelled we will let you know 2-3 working days prior to the scheduled start date. Basic Picture Framing
Make a Knife
Learn the skills and techniques of picture framing using professional equipment with tips and advice on how to do this at home with basic tools.
Ever wanted to make your own knife? In this 3 day class over two weekends, learn how to develop a design then forge and grind a piece of spring steel into a wonderful kitchen knife perfect for slicing, dicing and chopping.

Bring along your artwork or sentimental pieces that you have held off framing, and create your own framing masterpiece. Suitable for all levels.

Note - finishing details of the knife may be required after completion of the class. Followup instruction will be provided, if required, during class. Suitable for all levels. Minimum age is 13, though if under 16 will need to be accompanied by a supervising caregiver or parent.

Jewellery - Open Studio Natalie Halley | Tuesdays
Our open studio evening class provides a relaxed environment in which you can learn or expand your jewellery making skills. As a beginner, you will learn basic techniques and the safe handling of tools. As an intermediate or advanced student, you may wish to improve your skills in a particular field of jewellery making (for example, stone setting), have a go at trying a method new to you, or continue working on your project from a daytime class. This class will suit students at all levels of jewellery making.

Contemporary Painting and Drawing Kiran Gandhi | Wednesdays
What is drawing and painting in today’s age of expansive visual media? They are vital and powerful hands-on media which can help you to manage your creative thoughts and help you to become a more effective communicator. These classes will help you to bring out your personal language, your story, to the best of your ability while being informed by the contemporary creative practices around you. There will be room in each session to develop your personal work and to get one to one feedback from your tutor. All ideas, and visual art forms as inspiration are welcome. Suitable for all levels.
An Evening with Clay
Christine Fagan | Thursdays Have you ever wanted to have a go with one of the most fundamental mediums on the planet? Here’s your chance to create your own vessels and sculptural forms using clay. Learn some simple hand-building techniques Knife-making which will enable you to construct vessels and sculptures easily. Learn basic glazing techniques with ready-made glazes. This fun-filled class is suitable for beginners and students with some knowledge of clay.

REGISTRATION PROCESS Every class is open to enrolled and casual students. We cannot guarantee you a place, so early bookings are essential.
REGISTRATION FORMS To register online, visit our website - tlc.ac.nz. From the menu select ‘Study with us’ and the class type you would like to register for. Choose the class you would like to attend and click the button at the bottom of the page to fill out the registration form.

Casual students will receive confirmation of their class placement by email or post, once classes are finalised. All classes must be paid for prior to the start of the class.
Please note: All classes need a minimum number to go ahead. If a class is cancelled, we will let you know 2-3 working days prior to the scheduled start date. You may then either transfer to another equivalent class (subject to availability), or receive a full refund of paid class fees.
CANCELLATION POLICY Casual students If you are not able to attend a class please let us know at least 5 days before the class is due to run so that your class fees can be reimbursed. If we don’t hear from you within this time frame your refund will be reduced to 50%. We won’t be able to give refunds for cancellations received after the class has started. If there are good reasons why you have not been able to attend a class which you have paid for, we will consider your request for a refund or transfer to another class if that is possible.
Kids Term Classes If you have registered your child for a class and wish to cancel the registration, we require notice of your cancellation five days before the start of the class. Failure to do this will mean 50% of the full fee for class registration will still be charged.
Kids Holiday Art Programme Parents must give 24 hours notice if their child will not be attending booked sessions. Failure to do this will mean the full fee for day/s booked will still be charged. Booking and payment are required in advance of attendance. If you are receiving funding by an agency, please note that we do not require payment in advance unless you are aware of what your proportion of the payment will be. 13
