Our First Major Artist Cover Feature!
I chose to feature Alicia Keys on the cover of thawilsonblock magazine issue88 simply because I’m proud of her. I’m proud of the music she’s released over the years. The image that she has portrayed in comparison to her counterparts. I remember hearing her first
single on the radio before I was a pre-teen. It wasn’t my favorite song of hers, but she has demonstrated much growth with every new release since then. When I compare her to the likes of Beyonce, myself as a male listener, I much more appreciate the content of Alicia Keys.
But, don’t let me make this more about competition than quality of music. I do, however, need to note that it was a Beyonce/Alicia Keys contrast that actually made me appreciate Alicia more. Enough for her to be our 1 st ever major artist cover feature. From the substance in her music to the way she carries herself, she is a musician I wouldn’t mind my (hypothetical) daughter listening to. –Mistah Wilson (publisher)
