The smoke from an abundance of forest fires has taken over and choked the air throughout the entire west coast, but this particular night, not even mother nature could deter the people from gathering. At the Y Sports Bar in Spanaway, Washington they are setting up the lights and making some final preparations to the stage as they get ready for Bubba Sparks to make an appearance. Sunday, August 19th, the Y Sports Bar in Spanaway is one of the hottest tickets in town!

On the bill with Bubba is a good variety of local hip hop artists who were all getting back from Spokane and Colville where they were on tour as opening acts. Like I said before, Pusha T called 2018 a “Surgical

Summer ” and this is just further proof that the local scene is up to the challenge as they cut through different regions and demographics.

The night itself held a mix of excitement and exhaustion as many were coming from Hempfest in Seattle where they had just graced the stage, further showing their dedication to this craft as they performed multiple shows in one day. I wish I had a chance to interview every artists but in reality I was only able to say a few words to some of them. That being said, I will try to show how each and every one of them added another layer to this event.

Mistah Wilson: Hey, Austin Edwards! We are honored to have you here with us for this exclusive inter view with ThaWilsonBlock Magazine! For our audience reading, can you give us just a quick background on yourself?

Austin Edwards: I’m a 13 year old racecar driver tr ying to get to the near impossible dream of making it into NASC AR, while doing my best to make a difference along the way.

Mistah Wilson: You have such a Championed Spirit! When did you know you racing was what you wanted to do?

Austin Edwards: Racing’s been in my family since my grandfather raced in the 1960’s . I had always been into cars and watching N ASC AR races on TV. I got to tr y out a go kar t at age 5 and won my second race ever. From there I worked my way up through the ranks and now I drive a full size stock car on MAVTV on Thursday nights!

Mistah Wilson: You've been raising funds for a "No-Kill" animal shelter.

What inspired you to do this and how will it operate?

Austin Edwards: I’ve raised funds for the non -kill animal shelter in Yucaipa, YAPS (Yucaipa Animal Placement Society) for about 4 years now. When I

was in the Bandolero class at age 9 up to now, I’m able to speak to fans and ask them to donate to the shelter. Now after these few years , almost 18k has been raised for the shelter.

I hope to continue this work and turn my QuickPaws project into something that can help animal shelters all over the countr y.

Mistah Wilson: We've also heard that you play the Keyboard! How far are you into music?

Austin Edwards: I’ve played keyboard for around 5 years and I still want to learn more . Music is a great way to calm myself down, whether I’m playing it or listening to it!

Mistah Wilson: Tell us abour your experiences racing against adults.

What gave you the courage to win?

Austin Edwards: Racing against racing veterans with so much experience is a ver y cool thing. They’ve taught me a lot and I’m glad I could learn so much from them. My courage stems from knowing that I’ve been well trained and have some experience , and that when we put on our helmets , we’re all just another racer going for the win. We’re not kids against adults or boys verses girls . I think that’s one of the best par ts about racing, once you’re strapped into the car it’s all about talent, not

labels .

Mistah Wilson: In what ways are you looking to change the game in terms of NASC AR racing?

Austin Edwards: There are currently two major ways into the top levels of N ASC AR: Pay to play drivers and diversity. I don’t fall into either of those categories , so I have to work ver y hard if I want to make it. I have to get a strong marketing par tners to want to work with me because they believe in what I’m doing. If I do make it, I would like to encourage and bring up young drivers who also had to work ver y hard to go after this big goal. It seems that it would be good for the spor t to open up many other paths than the current ways to get into N ASC AR. Mistah Wilson: Ford, Chevy, or Dodge?

Austin Edwards: Chevy.

My family likes Chevy, my car and the engine in it is a Chevy, and Chevy’s are fast! Although my great grandfather has rebuilt some beautiful Mustangs throughout his lifetime , so I have to at least tip my hat to the Fords .

Mistah Wilson: Who are some racers you've always looked up to and why?

Austin Edwards: A lot of my favorite drivers in N ASC AR are retired/retiring soon, but right now some of my favorite drivers are Kyle Larson, Jimmie Johnson and Mar tin Truex JR. I’m amazed by the driving of Larson, the experience and clean racing of Johnson and the never-give up spirit that Truex has.
