Mistah Wilson: Yo, Clifford Ryan! It‟s truly an honor to have you here with us for this exclusive interview with ThaWilsonBlock. How have you been, OG? Clifford Ryan: I'm doing good Mistah Wilson: Before we go any further, could you give us a quick background on yourself?

Clifford Ryan: I was born raised in Syracuse NY. Lived there all my life. Grew up there, went to school there, worked there as well and most of my family and kids are there. I was born 8/13/63 mother / father are deceased and I have 3 children still living: 2 brothers & 3 sisters Mistah Wilson: We‟ve been witnesses to a lot of your community outreach efforts via social media. What inspired you to be an advocate against violence?

Clifford Ryan: I have always been about stopping violence within the community but my sons death to gun violence started it officially. For past 15 to 20 years I have off and on work with non-violent movements forward to 2015 July 4 th we had 10 shootings in one day for casualties from it that prompted me to do Og's against violence and I been doing it since then til now.

Mistah Wilson: For us, we understand the power of positive role models and it is quite hopeful to see our elders stepping up and being active members of our community. How did it all start for you?

Clifford Ryan: I got up July 5 th and made a sign out of card board box, wrote Og's against violence on it and started walking going to the most dangerous areas reaching out to the youth, the violent ones.

Mistah Wilson: What angle did you take in reaching out to the youth and how did you make it “cool” for them?

Clifford Ryan: My conduct was to be respectful show no fear and show them I care sincerely.

I gained respect because no one ever did that before in our history.

Mistah Wilson: Now, let‟s talk about the “OG‟s Against Violence” sign. It‟s genius. Who designed it and how did you know exactly what was going to go on it?

Clifford Ryan: Different people made the signs. First I made one, then a cousin made one, then a park and rec leader made one, then a pizza shop owner made the one that says “we love our kids come together as one” and that was the main sign people embraced.

Mistah Wilson: From your perspective, what are some of your biggest concerns in the community and at large?

Clifford Ryan: Where are the guns coming from…

Mistah Wilson: Even though your efforts are really starting to reach people, I‟m sure it hasn‟t necessarily been an easy road for you. What have been some challenges you‟ve encountered along your journey?

Clifford Ryan: People helping and believing in it and the youth as well…

Mistah Wilson: What are some more of the rewarding things?

Clifford Ryan: Saving the lives…

Mistah Wilson: What is your outlook specifically on „gang violence‟.

Some say it will never end.What do you say?

Clifford Ryan: I hope to cut it off at the last generation by continuing to do the foot work needed…

Mistah Wilson: We recently seen you at a community event with the Mayor and Chief of Police.What were some of the things you discussed?

Clifford Ryan: how to work better on the violence together…

Mistah Wilson: As humans, we should always respect each other.

But, as a young man (myself), it would be an honor for me if you explained the importance of having respect for our elders.

Clifford Ryan: Respect is 100% the youth should always look at what was done before them by the elders and respect the efforts of that and try to follow the positive role models. Embrace wisdom from the elders…

Mistah Wilson: What are your thoughts on the current education system in your community?

Clifford Ryan: It needs to be re-evaluated, restructured, and rebuilt. Bring back all programs cut by budgets and hire teachers that really care Mistah Wilson: What are some things that members of the community can do to improve quality of life for everybody?

Clifford Ryan: Unite with each other 100%...

Mistah Wilson: One thing we respect for sure about you, Cliff is that you are uniting our people and you are pro-diversity.Who are some of your personal influences that pushed you to be better?

Clifford Ryan: all the great leaders a-z Mistah Wilson: Hypothetically speaking, if you were allowed to ask just one question to the President of the United States in regards to the youth in our communities, what would it be?

Clifford Ryan: For him to travel all 50 States putting the proper tools in place for the community to have resources to improve our quality of life.

Mistah Wilson: Where do you draw inspiration from when reaching out to the community?

Clifford Ryan:The people who encouraged me to keep going.

Mistah Wilson: What overall message are you trying to send through your community outreach efforts?

Clifford Ryan: Stop the violence and unite!

Mistah Wilson: Do you have any events coming up and where can we keep up with you?

Clifford Ryan:This summer I will make some things happen with thee entire community coming together.
