Dear guests,
On behalf of the Omaha Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO and United Way of the Midlands (UWM), we are excited to welcome you to our annual Blue Collar Boxing event!
Partners since 1941, the relationship between the AFL-CIO and United Way is built upon a mutual desire to create a stronger and more resilient community. It was that shared commitment to the OmahaCouncil Bluffs metro that led to the creation of this exciting event in 2019. Proceeds from tonight’s Blue Collar Boxing will directly benefit the important work of United Way of the Midlands and the Nebraska Center for Workforce Development and Education.
UWM has a long-standing tradition of serving the metro by bridging the business and not-for-profit sectors and raising money to support more than 150 of our community’s most impactful health and human service programs. These funded programs and direct services – like 211 and JAG Nebraska – focus on four key areas to improve health and well-being for all, build financial stability and strength, help young people realize their full potential and address urgent needs today to advance a better tomorrow for our community.
The Nebraska Center for Workforce Development and Education is focused on increasing the qualified workforce in Nebraska by creating opportunities for individuals to gain exposure to careers in the trades. Through their unique programs, the Center is addressing the skill-gap in Nebraska’s workforce and supporting the infrastructure of the State of Nebraska.
Together, our two organizations are fighting to create a brighter future for individuals and families across the metro. Thank you for joining that fight by supporting tonight’s event. Whether you’re a spectator, sponsor or fighter – your involvement is truly making a difference for thousands of people in our community.
Sincerely,

Mike McDonnell President
Omaha Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO

Shawna Forsberg President and CEO United Way of
the Midlands
