Come learn how to make the All the Good Quilt, which uses the foundational basics of what designer Mitzie Schafer calls “controlled improv.” Controlled Improv is the use of common design elements found in nature to inform and inspire your next quilt so that your brain reads it as natural, cohesive, and beautiful. The All the Good Quilt pattern uses the foundational basics of this technique. So many of us quilters try improv and get discouraged. Mitzie has established natural boundaries to ensure success. This pattern uses 24 fat quarters to make a throw size quilt. It uses a full fat quarter bundle and doesn’t waste any of the fat quarter. In this workshop we will:

With Mitzie Schafer Technique: Design Theory, Controlled Improv Skill level: Beginner Controlled Improv is the use of common design elements found in nature to inform and inspire your next quilt so that your brain reads it as natural, cohesive, and beautiful. In this class, we will move beyond color into other common design elements found in nature. This includes but is not limited to shape, size, direction, patterns, spirals, and repetition. We will learn how to identify them, list them, and then order them for use. This will determine placement of squares, rectangles, triangles, stripes, and curves in your designs. It will also define size and placement. This class may be taken with Part 1 – Color Theory or as a standalone class.
