FARM COUNTRY Open to the public in 1996, Farm Country combines local history with founder Alan Ashton’s interest in self-reliance and farming. Farm Country is located on the site of the historic Fox Family Farm. The mission of Farm Country is to demonstrate the origins of the food supply in a working farm environment. Small children squeal with awe and a little bit of “ick!” as they observe and even help with daily cow milking, many times for the first time. A summer-long Junior Master Gardener Club maintains a pizza garden, growing tomatoes, basil, peppers, and onions. The programs and experiences of Farm Country instill healthy eating habits in children and families that last a lifetime. Free pony rides for children. Each child is matched with a pony that ensures a fun, safe, and memorable ride. Free wagon ride pulled by a large farm tractor or two draft horses. Farm Life demonstrates the journey of our food from the farm to the dinner table in a fun and hands-on way. At Farm Country, family time is enhanced and field trips are fun.
