Working With a Thailand Orchid Exporter: A Short Guide for Overseas Buyers Thailand ships orchids to florists, wholesalers and event companies all over the world. For buyers new to importing, the process can seem complicated at first. It usually isn't, as long as you know what to ask. What a Thailand Orchid Exporter Supplies A typical Thailand orchid exporter handles much more than cut stems. Dendrobium is the core of most catalogues, in whites, purples, pinks, greens and dyed shades. Mokara, Vanda and Oncidium are usually on offer too. Many exporters also ship loose blooms in counts of 50, 100 or more, potted orchid plants, tropical flowers such as heliconia and siam tulip, foliage, and lucky bamboo. Cut stems are graded by length and packed in trays, with several trays to a box. Checking the grade before ordering avoids surprises about stem count and price.
Ordering an Orchid Lei From Thailand Leis are one of the most requested items. A standard orchid lei is about 39 inches long and strung by hand from fresh Dendrobium blooms. Single leis are light and affordable. Doubles are fuller and often go to the guest of honour. Deluxe styles, with special weaving patterns, suit bigger celebrations. Keeping Leis Fresh Leave each orchid lei in the bag it came in and put it in the fridge. Don't use the freezer, as the cold will damage the petals. A quick spray of water helps if the flowers start looking dry. Bring it out just before the event, not hours ahead. Choosing the Right Exporter A good exporter grades stems clearly, packs every box the same way, and gets back to you quickly. Long experience with overseas shipping counts for a lot too. Before ordering, find out how much notice they need during busy periods, and check what your own country requires for imports. Lee Orchid has been shipping orchids out of Bangkok since 1996.
