The Thacher School Report on Giving 2009-2010

The most important gifts of a Thacher education do not come from a book or a lesson plan. They

come from the people and the interactions that happen outside or alongside the curriculum. For some, these gifts are lifelong friends, a love of learning, and willingness to take on challenges. For others, it is a moral compass, having truly internalized the School’s values of honor, fairness, kindness, and truth. Each of these gifts is made possible by our generous community of donors. BOARD OF TRUSTEES Board of Trustees 2009-2010 In addition to sharing their time and expertise, every member of Thacher’s Board of Trustees supported the School financially last year. Their annual and capital gifts totaled $1.3 million in 2009-2010.

the challenges During my freshman year, I went through the challenge of the Silver Dollar Pick-up, and learned a lot, from when my horse went lame and I had to ride my captain’s horse for the event, to when I started my celebration a bit early and fell off. The anxiety, the victory, and the memory that surrounded the experience highlighted my freshman year experience. Most important to me right now is the challenge that I have taken on in Cross Country. I began training for the sport over the summer with Mr Coleman as my long-distance advisor and coach over the summer. I learned to love running by the end of the three months, and came back to school a thriving member of the team— something that I have never been. The amount of discipline, determination, and hope that it took for me to get to this milestone in my life has meant a lot to me.

10. The Ojai sunsets 9. Munch-outs 8. Open House 7. Formal Dinner 6. The dorm 5. Advisee dinners 4. Post check-in movies 3. Towns runs 2. Class bonding experiences 1. As cheesy as this is going to sound, the thing I miss the most about Thacher, is Thacher. 2-10 are numbers, things that add up to make the Thacher experience, what it is and there are so many more, but really you can’t explain or say in any amount of words, how special and amazing the result is when you add all these things up and that’s what I miss the most; the moments that add up to equal Thacher.
