Our story

GARETH ROBERTS MANAGING DIRECTOR

Bishops Printers has been a family run business based in the water front city of Portsmouth since 1985. Our name comes from the original business owner, Colin Bishop, who ran an arts, crafts and copy shop on Hayling Island trading as Bishops Prompt Printers. The name was retained

by Martin Murphy, our Chairman, when he originally bought the business.

From humble beginnings with a small 2-colour printer in a garage to our current 85,000 square foot home, we offer state of the art B2 lithographic and digital printing.

Operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week our printing service includes machine and hand finishing, underpinned with a next generation print management system.

In a year we print 288 million B2 sheets of paper, produce 63 million saddle stitched books, 5.4 million perfect bound books, fold 283 million sheets and post out 10.8 million items through our 100% owned, ISO 27001 certified mailing house.

We now employ over 170 people and rank in the top 100 UK printers. Each day we handle over 154 different print jobs for a myriad of trade customers from agencies,

Martin Murphy buys Bishops Prompt Printers from Colin Bishop, hence our name.

Shirt sponsor for Pompey FC. Expand again.

5-colour press installed and a 2nd in 1998.

Expand to Fitzherbert Road, Farlington.

Garage Extension to shop premises, 2nd colour press installed.

Headcount reaches 60 & turnover £6m.

1992

First 4-colour press installed. New shifts enabled 24/7 operation.

Why design matters
