Computing and Engineering
If you enjoy logic, problem-solving, taking things apart and rebuilding them – either physically or virtually – then our STEM courses in Computer Science, IT and Engineering are a great foundation for a rewarding career.
If you’re interested in programming, databases or web development then you may wish to consider studying Computing or IT. Equally, if you are keen on computers but haven’t had a chance to programme before, our courses start with the basics and will raise your competency to a high standard. You’ll combine theory and practice on fastmoving and challenging courses. Whatever your level of prior experience, you’ll find a range of activities to stretch, challenge and innovate. Our computing students really enjoy their studies and, to push them further, A Level students are encouraged to supplement the programme with the Extended Project. Engineering is increasingly seen as a desirable study and career option and a highly skilled profession for people with a scientific mindset. Opportunities for skilled engineers are broader, more plentiful and better-paid than ever before. If you have a scientific brain and like to apply it to practical situations, our engineering courses are for you. After completing our L3 engineering diploma programme you are well placed to progress onto a degree apprenticeship, combining practical paid industry-based work and study. They offer a viable alternative to university and are gaining popularity, opening up engineering careers to students who prefer to learn through hands-on experience. Our students have gone on to highly soughtafter apprenticeships in large companies and university courses to qualify in mechanical, automotive, aeronautical, civil and electrical engineering. With the future of engineering expanding to include software engineering, robotics, AI (artificial intelligence), gaming, cybersecurity and VR (virtual reality) the future demand for engineers is expanding rapidly which makes it a very attractive career route.
Ellen
Student Profile
Ellen studied Engineering Extended Diploma Level 3 and A Level Mathematics. “Being able to do nothing but design and make things in an engineering-based course was a perfect choice. My teachers were always available if I needed any help or had any questions. The best memory of my course at Henley is definitely the discovery of CAD (Computer Aided Design). Being at the College helped me grow in confidence. I enjoyed my time at Henley and would definitely recommend it to other students.”
Ellen joined the College from Maiden Erlegh Chiltern Edge and is going on to study BA Product Engineering at the University of Loughborough.
