Bridge
The tutorial system at The Henley College is called Bridge. Every student is provided with a Bridge Tutor who will support and guide you during your time as a student.
Your Bridge Tutor is your main contact at college and they will help to connect you, and your parents or carers, with your teachers. They want to ensure your college experience is the best that it can be. They will help you manage your time, overcome any challenges that come up along the way, and give you the tools you need to stay organised and motivated. Your Bridge Tutor will lead one-hour weekly Bridge sessions, which are a compulsory part of your timetable. Your Bridge sessions are the place to share any challenges that have come up with your tutor and fellow students, learn problem solving skills, and review academic progress. They are also designed to prepare you with key life skills for the future through a timetable of high quality, high impact sessions, with topics including: ● Presenting skills ● Listening ● Speaking ● Problem solving ● Aiming High ● Critical thinking Bridge sessions are also a place for group discussions around contemporary issues and a time to build new relationships and get to know other students in an informal and interactive setting. Your Tutor will also provide a one-on-one session each term to help monitor your progress, consider any challenges or issues, and encourage and support your general wellbeing. Your Tutor is also available during college hours if you need a quick chat or to arrange more time to talk through a problem.
Jay Smith
Senior Bridge Tutor
“My role at the College is to guide the team of Bridge Tutors. We are here to support students in all aspects of their learning and personal journey at the College. The more you put into your time at Henley, the more you will get out. We want you to feel you have met your full potential. Hard work, excellent communication and a focus on your future goals and aspirations, with tailored assistance from your Bridge Tutor, can help you achieve academic success and a more developed self-awareness. Your Tutor will also set SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Timebound) targets for the year, including academic targets, post college plans and personal development goals. We also understand that sometimes things can go wrong, life can be hard and even small challenges can become overwhelming. Sometimes it can feel easier to bury your head in the sand, but we want you to talk to us so we can work through any challenges together. The Bridge Tutors’ role is to support and guide you during your time with us at The Henley College, so don't be afraid to ask for help.”
