As we look ahead to the challenges and opportunities that await us, it is important to celebrate our growth and past accomplishments. 2019 brought record program participation and fundraising growth made possible through the support and advocacy of our participants, donors, volunteers, coaches, parents and staff. To top things off, our vision of owning our very own golf facility became a reality when we purchased The Triangle Golf Complex this past Fall. Together, we were able to impact 1,637 local young people here in the Triangle through our educational programs. We provided over 52% of these participants with a financial scholarship to our programs that build character, instill life enhancing values and promote healthy choices through the game of golf. With so many exciting initiatives and accomplishments in 2019 – from “We Make Four” to our partnership with the Durham Police Athletic League, and two of our very own participants, Catherine Vivongsy and Tyla McAffity, winning 1st place at First Tee’s Golf to Paradise Tournament in Naples, FL – we set the bar high and surpassed tremendous goals. As we look ahead to 2020 and beyond, we have ambitious goals to increase our annual fund so that we can Andy_Bilodeau0001.NEF continue to expand our programs. We are also growing our More Andy_Bilodeau0002.NEF Than A Game Capital Campaign to create the youth-friendly learning center and 9-hole Par 3 golf course, designed by world renowned golf course architect Gil Hanse, at our new facility. As I look back and reflect on the past year, I find myself both proud and humbled by all that we have accomplished together. In many of my conversations and communications, I often refer to our stakeholders as being a part of our First Tee Family. This sentiment has never meant more to me than it does now. 2019 marked our 10th consecutive year of program growth led by our exceptional family. Our First Tee Family includes our outstanding Board of Directors who lead by example around the board table and in our community, a record number of donors who invested in our organization and pushed our operating revenue over $1 million for the first time, and our staff, volunteers, coaches, and teachers who delivered educational and mentorship programs to our kids. Most importantly, our First Tee Family includes a record 1,637 kids and their families who participated in our programs throughout the year. Last year, we launched our More Than A Game campaign with a vision to better serve our kids and families Thanks to our founding investors and Andy_Bilodeau0003.NEF through the construction of our Center for Youth Development. Andy_Bilodeau0004.NEF the generosity of world-renowned golf course architect Gil Hanse, we are now poised to deliver on this once-in-a-generation opportunity for our community! With the support of our First Tee Family, we will be able to bring the game and its inherent values to more kids and particularly those who would not otherwise have the opportunity to be involved in a program like ours. Good Golfers. Better People. In 2019, First Tee of the Triangle proudly served 1,637 kids. Of those 1,637 kids, 53% received a financial scholarship, enabling them to participate in First Tee. Our Annual Fund Campaign is dedicated to providing scholarships to all participants in need. Thanks to donor generosity, 868 kids received scholarships and participated in our programs who otherwise would not have had the opportunity. These 868 kids were exposed to First Tee’s Nine Core Values such as honesty, courtesy, and responsibility. These 868 kids now know the importance of making healthy choices and are doing better in school because of First Tee. Donor impact is not only making a difference in participants’ lives now, but also in their futures.

Jackie McClamb grew up in Milledgeville, GA, spending most of her formative years with her grandmother. After attending Macon University and transferring to Brenau University to complete her college degree, she became employed with the Federal Government and was relocated to North Carolina. After her retirement, Jackie’s husband, Mack, encouraged her to take up a hobby, which led her to golf! Jackie quickly fell in love with the game and took her first lesson from a golf pro at Duke University and subsequently, with other golf pros in the community. She currently plays in the TWIG league and occasionally with other women’s leagues in Georgia and South Carolina.

Jackie learned about First Tee of the Triangle through various advertisements on the Golf Channel. She loves how First Tee benefits and impacts young people’s lives by providing educational programs that build character. She has been a volunteer for nearly two years, while her grandson, Tristan, has participated in our Little Linksters program. Jackie has been able to watch Tristan develop his golf skills, learn to share with others, and learn about golf concepts, as a coach with his class. Along with volunteering with First Tee of the Triangle, Jackie spends her time volunteering as a youth leader at Bible Study Fellowship in Raleigh, NC and playing golf with Tristan and Mack on the weekends. Jackie sums up her First Tee experience as, “Amazing and it has been wonderful to contribute to other young people’s lives through the First Tee. It gives you an opportunity to give back to others and to your community.” We are grateful for Jackie and her commitment to First Tee’s mission.

Now in its third year, Drive4Success has continued to grow, with enrollment increasing over 7% from 2018. We served 823 participants in the 14 Wake County Elementary Schools that we partner with and we employed 50 school teachers to deliver this program. Of the 823 participants, 172 registered for at least two sessions this year. Females made up 41% of our Drive4Success program in 2019 and 73% were non-Caucasian. 45% of our Drive4Success youth would not have been able to participate without receiving financial aid provided by our generous donors. Our chapter has experienced tremendous growth in our Drive4Success program. Southeast Raleigh Elementary School became our 14th school partner in September of 2019. In the last three years as a Drive4Success coach, I have been given the opportunity to see kids in the program flourish as they learned the skills of a game that challenges them to think differently, beyond the world of their favorite sports including basketball, football, and soccer. I have seen the students adapt to a sport that they had no prior knowledge of, but they braved the unknown and learned character traits such as honesty and responsibility. There are many similarities between the physical education classes that I teach and the Drive4Success after-school program, in that I witness the evolution of students as they go through the milestones, the victories, and the defeats that encompass sports and fitness programs. I grew up in a small textile mill town just outside of Charlotte, NC and I attended East Carolina University, earning my Bachelor’s degree in Public Health and my Master’s degree in Health Education. I continue to work with the program as a golf and life skills coach because it also challenges me and has helped me become a better educator and coach by learning from my students at Creech Road Elementary School. -Coach Meghan McCoy Creech Road Elementary School, Raleigh 6

More Than A Game Campaign First Tee of the Triangle has been fortunate to experience a great deal of success over the last several years and is pleased to be consistently rated as one of the highest performing chapters in the country. For over 15 years, we have relied solely on the generosity of local golf facilities and partner locations to provide space and access for program delivery. While we are incredibly grateful to each of these partners and look forward to continuing our work together in the future, we have begun the aggressive pursuit to create the First Tee Center for Youth Development. The First Tee Center for Youth Development will be located at Triangle Golf Complex (12201 Leesville Road, Raleigh, NC 27613), which is currently open under our ownership. This location provides a unique opportunity for us to create permanency for our programs while also allowing us the ability to serve the entire Triangle. We look forward to using this Center to increase enrollment and student retention rates, create a safe place to foster positive mentor relationships, and support the kids in our community who need our help the most. Last year, we launched the More Than A Game Campaign which is a $6,500,000 campaign to help fund the purchase and redevelopment of the Center. Thanks to our founding investors and the generosity of world-renowned golf course golf course architect Gil Hanse, we have already raised nearly two-thirds of the funds needed to turn this vision into a reality and are now poised to deliver this incredible opportunity to our community! With the ongoing support of our community, we will be able to bring the game and its inherent values to more kids, particularly those who would not otherwise have the opportunity to be involved in a program like ours.

Annual Events Old Chatham
Our annual golf tournament at Old Chatham Golf Club is the staple of our spring corporate philanthropy. Teams enjoy an 18-hole round and are taught a lesson by First Tee participants. Thanks to the generosity of Old Chatham Golf Club and their membership, our annual tournament is the only non-club golf event at Old Chatham each year, making this a premiere and exclusive event for our organization.
Pebble Beach Raffle
Our annual Pebble Beach raffle is always a big hit and a great way to support our chapter. The winner receives a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Pebble Beach for four including golf at Pebble Beach, Spyglass Hill, and The Links at Spanish Bay.
Kid-Am
Our Kid-Am is similar to a Pro-Am, but unlike your traditional golf tournament, this event partners you with one of First Tee of the Triangle’s standout participants! Playing with a participant not only helps your team’s score, but it allows you to see your support at work and learn more about how our organization is making a difference in the Triangle.
A Night FORE Champions
Our fall gala is a night filled with celebration, recognizing our Champions Circle honorees and community members who have gone above and beyond for our chapter, and stories are shared from our First Tee of the Triangle participants.
