BUILDING GAME CHANGERS
ANNUAL REVIEW 2023
2023 was a very productive and rewarding year for First Tee — Triangle. We served a record number of children, with almost 400 more youth benefitting from our programs compared to the previous year. With 41% female participation and 56% of our children identifying as racially or ethnically diverse, our commitment to Building Game Changers in underrepresented communities has been evident.
Moving to 2024, our 20th year of programming in the Triangle, construction on our new TriGolf facility is progressing well and we aim to be fully operational by June. This new facility will accommodate an additional 1,000 participants annually and provide expanded opportunities for mentorship, community building, and family engagement. Thank you to our campaign donors and supporters for making this dream a reality.
Technological advancements have enhanced our programs, with the integration of the First Tee app and real-time technology that improves program quality. Our commitment to technology will continue at our new facility through golf simulation and TopTracer range technology.
Our Drive4Success program in Wake County Title I elementary schools has expanded to Durham County, now serving a combined 18 Title I schools throughout the Triangle. As our growth continues, our dedication to serving populations in need remains steadfast, with plans to add more school locations in 2024.
I am incredibly proud of our talented First Tee — Triangle team, whose hard work and dedication, along with our supportive Board of Directors, are instrumental to our success. On behalf of our Board, thank you for your continued support and generosity towards our organization and the young people of the Triangle.
Ted Klinck Board Chairperson
Reflecting on the past year, I am amazed by the ongoing progress we’ve made in fostering growth and positive impact within our community. With over 1,800 youth members engaged in our golf and character education programs, and a total of over 7,500 young individuals served across the Triangle area, our reach continues to expand. Without the support of our generous donors, volunteers, and partners, we would not be able to provide valuable programming and mentorship opportunities to youth in need. Witnessing the community come together to support our mission of nurturing character development and enriching lives through golf and life skills education is truly inspiring.
As we commemorate our 20th anniversary this year, I’m thrilled to announce the opening of our Center for Youth Development! This cutting-edge facility will serve as a focal point for our programs, enabling us to reach even more young people in the years ahead. Furthermore, we’ve made significant investments in our programs, including curriculum updates, the introduction of new offerings, and enhancing accessibility across our entire community. This year also marks the launch of our Drive Your Future strategic plan, which will steer our efforts in the areas of Serving More Youth, Driving Greater Impact, Increasing Access to Golf, and Creating Organizational Sustainability in the years to come.
Thanks to your unwavering support, First Tee — Triangle is poised to continue Building Game Changers for generations to come. Thank you for entrusting us to serve our community through the game of golf!

Drive4Success has continued to expand locally, adding three more elementary schools in 2023. With these additions, we are now in 18 Title I Elementary Schools in Wake County. Carver, Poe Gifted and Talented/AIG Basics Magnet, and Powell Center for Play and Ingenuity Magnet Elementary Schools now offer our after-school program, inviting a total of 120 new participants each school year.
Amy Daniels has been a coach for the Drive4Success program at Smith Magnet Elementary since the fall of 2017. She graduated from UNC - Chapel Hill with a degree in History. She obtained her Masters from NC State in Special Education, which she taught for many years before becoming a Kindergarten Teacher. Amy is also a swimming coach, and as a result of her coaching experiences, she has seen how sports can impact people in such a way that they become better people. For this reason, she continues to support the mission of First Tee, and we couldn’t be more grateful.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH
WAKE YOUNG WOMENS LEADERSHIP ACADEMY
Partnering with Wake Young Women’s Leadership Academy (WYWLA), 25 young women spent Tuesday mornings at Knights Play Golf Center. They honed their golf skills and engaged in discussions on valuable life lessons. This collaboration reflects our commitment to empowering young women in leadership, entrepreneurship, and community service within the Triangle.
ORANGE COUNTY PARKS & RECREATION
In growing our reach, we started a partnership with Orange County Parks & Recreation located in Hillsborough, NC in the Fall of 2023. Since starting our partnership with OCPR we have served 20 kids in the Little Linkster program where we provided them a safe, supportive, and fun environment to not only learn the basics of golf but to also become team players. We are excited to see some of the Little Linkster participants join us for classes at our Hillandale location soon!

SPOTLIGHT: OUR STAKEHOLDERS
Being part of the First Tee — Triangle community for almost a decade has been incredibly rewarding. Coaching on Saturdays has evolved into building relationships and teaching life skills through golf. Witnessing the confidence in a child’s eyes as they trust their putt line is inspiring. The annual Kid-Am golf tournament, sponsored by the Game Changers Council, highlights our program’s impact. With the TriGolf facility becoming a reality, I look forward to seeing confidence grow even more.
C.I.S. Program Support Specialist David
CIS is really excited about teaming up with First Tee! We’ve seen kids totally get into golf, and it’s fantastic! Playing sports and learning discipline on the course isn’t just about the game, it’s helping them become confident leaders in school and sports.

SPOTLIGHT: OUR YOUTH PARTICIPANTS
SAUL RAMOS
Drive4Success Participant
I can play because of First Tee — Triangle. I love sports like soccer, but I can’t play them because I have a sickness in my blood. Coach Young introduced me to golf in PE class because I can play it safely. I told my friends they should join First Tee — Triangle because learning golf helps them to be better at other sports, too. My friends and I were able to stay after school for Drive4Success this year because the First Tee — Triangle van drives us from Brentwood Elementary to the Boys and Girls Club every week. I’m thankful that my coach and First Tee — Triangle helped me so that I can play!
SARAH DAWDY
Ace Participant
First Tee — Triangle has been instrumental in shaping who I am today. Growing up in the program, I learned and lived by its core values, becoming the best version of myself both on and off the golf course. Through coaching and participating in the Junior Advisory Council, I’ve had the chance to give back and connect with others in meaningful ways. The supportive environment and dedicated coaches keep me coming back year after year, allowing me to continue growing and creating lasting memories. I’m grateful for the opportunities First Tee — Triangle has provided me and am excited to continue making a difference within the organization.
ADITI HONNA
Ace Participant
The reason I believe that no dream is too far-fetched is because of the First Tee — Triangle. Their incredible coaches and supportive peers have significantly helped me improve my golf game and my outlook on life. I’m so grateful for their help on and off the course, and I know it will continue to benefit me for years to come.

ANNUAL EVENTS
Old Chatham - Presented By
Our annual golf tournament at Old Chatham Golf Club is the staple of our spring corporate philanthropy. Teams enjoy an 18-hole round and are taught a lesson by First Tee — Triangle participants. Thanks to the generosity of Old Chatham Golf Club and their membership, our annual tournament is the only non-club golf event at Old Chatham each year, making this a premiere and exclusive event for our organization.
Pebble Beach Raffle - Presented By
Our annual Pebble Beach Raffle is always a big hit and a great way to support our chapter. The winner receives a once-in-alifetime trip to Pebble Beach for four people, including golf at Pebble Beach, Spyglass Hill, and The Links at Spanish Bay.
Kid-Am - Presented By
Our Kid-Am is similar to a Pro-Am, but unlike your traditional golf tournament, this event partners you with one of First Tee — Triangle’s standout participants! Playing with a participant not only helps your team’s score, but it allows you to see your support at work and learn more about how our organization is making a difference in the Triangle.
A Night FORE Champions - Presented By
Our fall gala at The Pavilion at The Angus Barn is a night filled with celebration, recognizing our Champions Circle honorees and community members who have gone above and beyond for our chapter, while stories are shared from our First Tee — Triangle participants.
