I’M MAD NOW!
You hear about the latest scams. I get notices of one gimmick after the other.
And, you wonder how many of them are true. And, if they are, it must be happening in the big cities, probably in another state like New York. Definitely not in our beautiful East Texas area.
Well, I am very disappointed to say it does happen around in our parts. And,
NOW, I’M MAD! You bet! Rip roaring, I want to find some flimflammers and hang them by their toes!
Just before Christmas, my mother and father were at the local Wal-Mart store in
Gilmer, Texas. My dad recently had knee replacement surgery so Mom dropped him off at the door and parked. They went in and did their shopping. Mom took the groceries to the van while Dad waited for her at the front of the store.
Mom had just gotten inside her vehicle when a woman beat on her window. Ok,
this is where things start going wrong. My mom who is old enough to know better rolled down her window. The woman asked her if she had witnessed another car trying to run over her. My mom said she hadn’t. The woman went on to tell her the guy spun off, but his car door was open and a bag had fallen out. She also said she worked for an attorney in Gilmer.
Another man comes up and asked the woman if she is alright. And, explains he
did witness her almost being run down. The woman asked my mother what should she do with the bag, and did she think she should open it. My mom said she guessed it would be alright.
Ok, my blood is boiling now, as Mom tells me the woman goes around to the
passenger side, and GET’S IN THE VAN WITH HER! The man is now positioned on the driver’s side, window still down, and the woman is in the vehicle with my mother. She opens the bag, and there is a huge bundle of cash, and a sticker on the outside of it saying it is $15,000. The woman who supposedly works for an attorney looks at my mother who is in her eighties, and asks my mom what should she do.
Now, I know up until this point, Mom hasn’t made the best choices, but she im-
mediately knew these two individuals were in this together, and they were trying to pull a scam. My mother told her, “Since you work for an attorney, you know you have to call the police!”
At this point, Mom let them know Dad was there, and she had to leave imme-
diately. The woman got out of the vehicle when she saw my mother wasn’t going to go along with the program. She and the man walked off together.
We believe they that maybe the money was counterfeit. They were probably
going to try to get my mother to give them some money and they would give her the ‘$15,000’. God had a guardian angel looking over my mother that day. They could have carjacked her, robbed her, or worse.
Be careful. When walking to your vehicle, look around. Let people you are
aware of your surroundings. Have your keys ready, and when you get in your vehicle, lock your doors. If someone needs help, use your cell phone and call for help. Do not roll down your window! If you don’t have a cell phone drive and send help back to them. But, for goodness sake, do not let them in your car!
And, Mom, it’s gonna be a long time before we let you forget this!

Three women go down to Mexico one night to celebrate college graduation. They get drunk, and wake up in jail, only to find that they are to be executed in the morning, though none of them can remember what they did the night before. The first one, a redhead, is strapped in the electric chair and is asked if she has any last words. She says, “I just graduated from Brigham Young University and believe in the almighty power of God to intervene on behalf of the innocent.” They throw the switch and nothing happens. They all immediately fall on their knees, beg for forgiveness, and release her. The second one, a brunette, is strapped in and gives her last words. “I just graduated from the Harvard School of Law and I believe in the power of justice to intervene on the part of the innocent.” They throw the switch and again, nothing happens. The last one (you know it), a blonde, is strapped in and says, “Well, I’m from The University of Texas and just graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering, and I’ll tell ya right now, ya’ll ain’t gonna electrocute nobody if you don’t plug this thing in.”

The Earls Legacy D Earls Tax Services offers income tax service, employee leasing, past due tax service, and executive business counseling. Daniel Earls, grandson of founder Del Earls and son of previous president, Dennis Earls, is now the president of D Earls Tax Service. He is one in a long line of D Earls that have been a part of the company since Del and Maggie Earls started in Greenville, Tx. with a company called Triangle Business Services in 1978. Daniel has been involved with the company for 5 years and took over as president in 2008. Dennis, Del’s son, and Daniel’s father was in control of D Earls Tax Services till mid 2008. It was a sudden and tragic loss, when Dennis suddenly passed away. He will be missed. Dennis was a member of many civic organizations and sat on the board with several of them. He was a great asset to the communities he served. David Earls, Daniel’s uncle, and Del’s oldest son, was in charge of Triangle in Greenville when Del took one of his first retirements. But, an illness also took David several years ago..
Triangle was then sold to long time manager Cathy Ward. Cathy has since sold the business back to D Earls Tax Services, and is in charge of the Greenville location. She has been at that location for about 17 years. Del Earls came back and started D Earls Tax Service in Quinlan about 10 years ago, and added on their latest location in Royse City 4 years ago. Another retirement and Del then started another company in the Dallas area, Del’s Tax Company, but has also rejoined D Earls Tax Service and will be helping customers in the Royse City location. Happy New Year to You All!! Hope all of you had as good a Christmas and New Year as we did. We were all well and of course that’s a real good thing. For the New Year I am going to give you some fast bread recipes. Bread is something you have to have almost every meal and for every good party. These breads would make a great after school, or just a plain ole snack. Spiral Cheese Slices 1 Tube (8oz.) refrigerated Crescent rolls ¼ C. Chopped Green Onions 1/8 t. Onion Powder ¼ C. Shredded Cheddar Cheese Remove crescent dough from tube; do not unroll. Cut into eight (8) slices; place on an ungreased baking sheet. Top with green onions. Sprinkle with onion powder and cheese; lightly press cheese into slices. Bake at 375◦ for 14 – 16 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm.. Enjoy! Marmalade Monkey Bread 2/3 C. Orange Marmalade ½ C. Chopped Pecans or Walnuts ¼ C. Honey 2 T. Butter, Melted 2 Tubes (7-1/2 oz. each) Refrigerated Buttermilk Biscuits You can use Orange Marmalade or any kind of jam that you have on hand. In a small bowl, combine the marmalade (or jam) pecans, honey and butter. Stir well. Cut each biscuit into four pieces. Layer half of the pieces in a greased 10 inch tube pan; top with half of the marmalade mixture. Repeat. Bake at 375◦ for 27-30 minutes or until golden brown. Cool in pan for 5 minutes before inverting onto a serving platter. Serve warm. Enjoy! Surprise Banana Muffins 1 pkg. (14 oz.) Banana Quick Bread and Muffin mix 1 C. Milk ½ C. Vegetable Oil 2 Eggs 12 Miniature Peanut Butter Cups Prepare Banana Bread Batter according to package directions, using milk, oil and eggs. Fill greased muffin cups 2/3 full. Place a peanut butter cup in the center of each; spoon remaining batter over top. Bake at 400◦ for 15 – 20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into muffin comes out clean. Cool for 5 minutes before removing from pan to a wire rack. Enjoy!

Hope everyone had a great Christmas and a Happy New Year. If you are like me, you are ready for something a little different than turkey and dressing. I love Mexican food and this is one recipe that hits the spot. I use is as a main dish, usually for lunch and then go light for supper/dinner. Chicken Quesadillas Ingredients 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, each 4 ounces 1 cup chopped onions 1/2 cup smoky or hot salsa 1 cup chopped fresh tomatoes 1 cup chopped fresh cilantro 6 flour tortillas, each 8 inches in diameter 1 cup shredded reduced-fat cheddar cheese Directions Preheat the oven to 425 F. Lightly coat a baking sheet with cooking spray. Cut each chicken breast into cubes. In a large, nonstick frying pan, add the chicken and onions and sautĂŠ until the onions are tender and the chicken is thoroughly cooked, about 5 to 7 minutes. Remove from heat. Stir in the salsa, tomatoes and cilantro. To assemble, lay a tortilla flat and rub the outside edge with water. Spread about 1/2 cup of the chicken mixture onto the tortilla, leaving about 1/2 inch free around the outer rim. Sprinkle with a spoonful of shredded cheese. Fold tortilla in half and seal. Place on a cookie sheet. Repeat with the remaining tortillas. Lightly coat the top of the tortillas with cooking spray. Bake until the quesadillas are lightly browned and crispy, about 5 to 7 minutes. Cut in half and serve immediately. January, 2009 Directions Prepare a hot fire in a charcoal grill or heat a gas grill or broiler to medium-high or 400 F. In a small bowl, stir together the chili powder, oregano, paprika, coriander and garlic powder. Dredge the pork pieces in the seasonings, coating completely. Place the pork strips and onions in a cast-iron pan or grill basket. Grill or broil at medium-high heat, turning several times, until browned on all sides, about 5 minutes. To serve, spread an equal amount of pork strips and onions on each tortilla. Top each with 1 tablespoon cheese, about 2 tablespoons tomatoes, 1/2 cup shredded lettuce and 2 tablespoons salsa. Fold in both sides of each tortilla up over the filling, then roll to close. Serve immediately. Store in airtight container. Will keep for 6 months to a year. 7 teaspoons of this spice mix is the equivalent of one 1.25 oz packet of store bought taco seasoning. This recipe makes the equivalent of 4 spice packets. To make tacos- mix 7 tsp (or 2 T and 1 t) to 1 lb ground meat that has been browned and drained of fat. Add 3/4 cup water and stir to blend. Cook till water has evaporated. Did you have grandparents or parents like mine? You searched hours to find just the right gift for them, something they really needed, something that they wouldn’t think was too extravagant for your budget. Then some months later while you’re visiting them, they ask you to go to their closet for something. In the process you discover your carefully chosen treasure that you had given them is neatly tucked away—still in its original wrappings—under a stack of blankets. On one such visit with my grandmother, I asked her why she had all these nice things stored away and each item had someone’s name on it. Even though she might take them out and look at them sometimes, she was saving them, she told me, so that when she left this world each person could have “their” things back. She didn’t realize that her family wanted to make life easier and more enjoyable for her. They didn’t want their presents back; they loved her and these gifts represented part of themselves that they wanted her to have. I met a lady like this last month while Christmas shopping. The presents she had hidden away weren’t from her family; they were gifts given to her by her Heavenly Father—gifts of salvation, healing, well-being—all bought and paid for by the shed Blood of Jesus, our Lord and Savior. Remember, “salvation” translated from the original Biblical languages literally means “deliverance, rescue, safety, well-being, happiness, prosperity, and victory” (Psalm 50:23, Strong’s Concordance). This lady had put away all these gifts the Lord had given her and was still trying to “muddle through” life the best that she could. She was a Christian who acted like she didn’t really know her Savior. It’s a shame that some people go through life with a relationship with God that’s basically just an introduction. They’ve accepted Him as Savior but never have “plumbed the depths” of Who He really is. Some Christians can say they’ve seen every movie a certain actor has made, but they can’t quote ten verses of the Bible and know what they mean. And, there are some who can quote many passages of the Bible, but their intellect takes them captive and prevents them from letting that same Word control their actions. Both these lifestyles are empty shells, and these believers are not living out their individual purpose that God had for them. How do you make sure that you’re using the gifts God has already given you? 1. Make things right with your Heavenly Father; make sure there’s nothing between you and God that will hinder Him working in your life. Ask Him to forgive you, then accept His forgiveness and His righteousness. Don’t wait to feel right—just take His Word and act like it’s true inside of you! When we accept His forgiveness and righteousness, that puts us in right standing with God; then every promise in the Bible belongs to us. “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” I John 1:9 “For He hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.” II Corinthians 5:21 2. Give Him control. Let Him be in charge of who you are and who you can become. He knows your future better that you know your past, so let Him steer your life choices today and every day.

Your fellowship will build a relationship with your Heavenly Father and with your Elder Brother, Jesus, and you’ll like who you become when you spend time with Him each day. “But without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.” Hebrews 11:6 4. Go and do what He tells you to do. His Word is full of instruction and direction. Meditate on it. Follow it. “This Book of the Law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe and do according to all that is written in it. On Wednesday, November 12, the Pre-Kindergarten students at Kathryn Griffis Elementary in Caddo Mills, Texas celebrated the 50th day of the school by having a 1950’s themed day. They hand jived and twisted to the tunes of the era, dressed in poodle skirts and rolled jeans with white T’s, and had snacks reminiscent of soda shop favorites: root beer floats and french fries. They also got to experience trucks and cars from the 50’s thanks to Rex and Phil Kind! What a Blast!

Cold or Flu?

What is the difference between a cold and the flu? The flu and the common cold are both respiratory illnesses, but they are caused by different viruses. Because these two types of illnesses have similar flu-like symptoms, it can be difficult to tell the e difference between them based on symptoms alone. In general, the flu is worse that the common cold, and the symptoms such as fever, body aches, extreme tiredness, and dry cough are more common and intense. Colds are usually milder than the flu. People with colds are more likely to have a runny or stuffy nose. Colds generally do not result in serious health problems, such as pneumonia, bacterial infections, or hospitalizations.

Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas with your family! I am really excited to see all of the great things 2009 holds in store for us! As a parent, we have a ton of responsibility! There’s always someone who’s calling, “Mama” or “Daddy”! There’s usually dishes, laundry, vacuuming, and other household chores to be done on a daily basis. And we haven’t even talked about your 8-5 job, yet! Each person can only take so much before you need a break! It’s very important to take time for yourself and your needs in order to stay refreshed, in good spirits, and ready to take whatever gets thrown your way! As we all know, sometimes that “thrown” is to be taken very literally! It’s also important to make sure you get enough rest, it may be a good idea to let the kids go to Grandma’s just so you can lay on the couch peacefully and watch movies. This wouldn’t be time for doing chores!!! Rest time! Even if you just put the kids to bed a little early so you can relax in the bath, whatever it takes to get some “ME TIME“. I’m sure you have heard the old saying, “you can’t make anyone else happy, if you don’t make yourself happy.” Unfortunately, this isn’t a myth! I know you may be thinking, I couldn’t do that, that’s just selfish…it’s really not . It will help you be a better parent or spouse who’s able to concentrate, focus and for goodness sake have fun with your family! Please know that I am not saying for you to neglect your family or responsibilities, just compromise and delegate! So, start the New Year off right…take time for yourself and enjoy your family and your Me TIME! Pamper yourself by going to your favorite salon , get a massage, have a date night, or just go to your bedroom and read a book! Just try to take some time every week to do something for yourself that you enjoy. It will help prepare you for your exciting, blessed life. And, finally, Happy New Year to you and your family!!!

Having never married, she requested no male pallbearers. In her handwritten instructions for her memorial service, she wrote, “They wouldn’t take me out while I was alive, I don’t want them to take me out when I’m dead.”

FHS and TMS Band Members Make All-Region Band Monday, December 8, 2008 - Ford High School hosted the All-Region band auditions. Several FHS Band students auditioned for spots in the Region 3 All-Region band. David Gradinaru, Jason Kizer, Justin Kizer and Shawn Adams earned spots in the all-region symphonic band and have been certified for area contests in January. Shawn Adams earned spots in the symphonic band on two instruments and had to choose which instrument he would perform. Heather Moore, Bunnarack Kuch and Nick Gonzales earned spots in the all-region concert band. All of these students will join the region band and give a concert in January in Canton. Congratulations to all of these students. Director Marty Filip states, “This is a high honor to be part of these bands and these students have represented Quinlan ISD and FHS with pride and high standards.” TMS Students also fared very well at the all-region band competitions. Kevin Davis made the concert band on Tenor Sax. Markus Laurent made the concert band on the Trumpet. Alex Durett made the symphonic band on the Trumpet and Rodger Wade made the concert band on the Tuba. Congratulations to TMS Director Derek Sneed and these students for all their accomplishments.

ANSWERS TO TRUE OR FALSE QUESTIONS ON PAGE 3 1. False. A swig of brandy might initially make you feel warmer, but drinking any alcoholic beverage actually lowers your core body temperature. It sends blood to your skin, which will make you feel warm and flushed, but causes you to lose body heat. You could suffer from hypothermia and not even feel it. Alcohol can also cause dehydration and impair your judgment, which can make matters even worse. 2. False. Most avalanches are caused by people, but not because they’re making a racket. While it is possible for an explosion or a gunshot to trigger an avalanche, it is far more likely to be the result of someone being in the wrong place at the wrong time. The pressure of someone stepping, skiing or snowmobiling across a weak spot is what generally causes a huge slab of snow to cleave away and tumble down the slope. 3. True. A fire in the fireplace may evoke feelings of warmth and coziness, but in actuality it is an extremely inefficient way to heat your home. The design of most traditional masonry fireplaces creates a draft that pulls air out of the room to fuel the fire and causes the majority of the heat generated by the fire to go up the chimney. This, in turn, can draw cold air in through other leaks in your home, making it colder rather than warmer. 4. False. While it is true that under certain conditions, hot water can freeze more quickly than cold water, it is a phenomenon that can generally only be observed in a laboratory, not in your freezer at home. So if you want to make ice cubes quickly, use cold water. 5. True. Most snowflakes look pretty much the same as you watch them fall from the sky, but it’s a different ballgame under the microscope. The size, shape and texture of a snowflake is determined by a variety of factors, including temperature, humidity and other atmospheric conditions at the time it is formed. At a molecular level, the number of possible variations is nearly infinite, so the probability that two snowflakes would be exactly alike, even when formed under similar conditions, is almost zero. 6. True. Storing batteries in the fridge can make them last longer, but not necessarily much longer. Keeping regular alkaline batteries in cold storage will extend their life by less than 5 percent, so it’s probably only worthwhile to do so if you live in a particularly hot climate, since they do lose their charge faster in high temperatures. On the other hand, NiMH and NiCd batteries self-discharge at a much faster rate than alkaline batteries at room temperature. Thus storing them in the refrigerator will significantly extend their life, although you’ll need to bring them back to room temperature to use them. 7. False. This is just an old wives’ tale. You may feel cold, but you can’t catch a cold just from going outdoors with wet hair. 8. True. Goosebumps or gooseflesh is actually piloerection. All mammals, including humans, have skin covered with hair. Most of the hair on human skin is fine and sometimes barely visible. When the hair in the follicle lifts up (piloerection) it makes the hair follicle stand out creating the appearance we call goose bumps. In animals who are covered with hair, the piloerection makes the hair puff out. By creating a fluffier layer of hair, the animal conserves heat. The human responds to cold with piloerection also, but humans don’t have enough body hair for the response to effectively conserve heat. It is also thought to be a “flight or fight” response. The response is controlled by the autonomic nervous system just like sweating, heart rate, respiratory rate, and other functions over which we have no voluntary control. 9. False. This is an email hoax that was circulated on the Internet a few years ago. Even if there were dioxins in plastic water bottles (and there is still some debate on that issue), freezing them would not cause any kind of chemical release to occur. 10. False. There was much speculation surrounding the “mysterious” demise of Walt Disney in December 1966. Because Disney kept his illness (lung cancer) a secret and did not want a funeral, many people believed that he had arranged to be frozen until medical technology had advanced enough to bring him back to life. Rumor had it that the body was stored under the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland. In fact, Disney was cremated and his ashes were interred at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, Calif.

Q. I know that (traditional) funerals can be very expensive. My friend just paid almost $6000 for her mother’s service. Are there any ways to cut the costs of funerals without sacrificing dignity and service? – (Part 3) A. (Saving on a funeral- ‘part 3 of 3’) There are many ways to save money on a loved one’s final expenses. Families can cut $100’s and even $1000’s off a funeral service, very easily. Any funeral home should be willing to accommodate your family and may even provide other ideas of savings. If your funeral home of choice does not cooperate with your requestsleave! First of all, price shop- price shopprice shop. Comparison shop for caskets, vaults, services, grave markers, urns and cemeteries. All funeral homes are legally bound to give their charges over the phone but a face to face meeting is a very important step in choosing the people that will be caring for your family in their time of need. All funeral contracts are separated into three categories; (1) merchandise, (2) services, and (3) cash advances. In November & December, we explored ways of saving on the funeral services and merchandise. In part 3 of this month’s ‘Ask The Director’, we will explore the many ways of saving on the cash advance portion of the funeral contract. Saving money on the cash advances can be a little more difficult than saving on the funeral or the merchandise because these charges are usually not controlled by the funeral home. Cash advances are other outside charges that are not mandated by the funeral home (ie. Certified death certificates, the plot, honorariums, flowers and opening and closing of the grave). Certified Death Certificates • The price of death certificates are set by the state. The charge for certified copies are $21 for the first and $4 for additional at the time of ordering. • We suggest that families always order two more than they think they will need • Have the funeral home make several copies of the certified. Some banks and other companies may accept a zerox copy to close an account and the certified copies can be saved for future use. • Veterans will also receive one free death certificate. The Plot/Opening & Closing of Grave • FYI- if a plot needs to be purchased; it’s usually less expensive to purchase in a county cemetery rather than inside city limits. Most cemeteries inside city limits may also have an up-keep fee if it is a perpetual care cemetery.
• It’s difficult to save on the opening and closing but here are some ideas. Ask if it would be less expensive to not have a tent or chairs. Many grave services will knock off a hundred or so, if the tent and chairs are not set up at the graveside. Have a formal chapel services and a less formal graveside could help families save big. • Opening and closing fees can run anywhere from $500 to $2000 depending on the cemetery. If it is a county cemetery, ask if the family can dig the grave themselves. This may seem a bit strange to some but can be a wonderful way to honor a loved one. We once had a family that had nine grandsons. The family met at the cemetery on a beautiful spring day, had a family picnic and the boys hand dug grandpas grave. They also hand lowered his casket and vault into the grave with ropes (no lowering device need) the day of the service. Their actions not only saved the family almost a grand on the service, it also provided a special memory of their final goodbyes. Honorariums • Many ministers and singers will be expecting an honorarium for their involvement in the service. The amount of the honorariums are traditionally up to the family but most start at $50 to $75. • Some funeral homes will have a chaplain that conducts the funeral for a small donation to a local church ministry. • Forgo this charge by having family and friends conduct the service. This can be organized by the funeral director at no charge. Flowers • A nice casket piece can set a family back a few hundred dollars. Many funeral homes have silk pieces that families can rent or use for free. • FYI- Roses and tropical flowers are your most expensive while carnations and mums are the least. Have the florist use inexpensive ‘filler’ like baby breath, daisies or ribbons. Use a personal belonging, such as a cowboy hat, sewing machine, etc. as large filler. • Instead of casket flowers; use grandmas favorite quilt on the casket, framed family photos on the top of granddads casket or how about a saddle for the horse rider in the family. The ‘casket piece’ is only limited to the families imagination. There are still many ways to save on funeral services but I hope this gives our readers a good head start on the inside saving that can be gained. Taming of the Shrew Fort Elementary 5th grade GT students performed Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew last Thursday at the High School Performing Arts Center. GT Specialist Kelly Margot worked with the students to produce the play.
Royse City Middle School Hosts Training
Royse City Middle School was the training site for 35 hopeful Destination Imagination teams this past Saturday. Destination Imagination is an international organization that sponsors problem solving teams. Royse City has grown from 2 teams in 2005-06 to 35 teams in 2008-09. They are preparing for regional competition, which will be held February 28th in Mesquite at Poteet High School. The teams engaged in activities ranging from costuming, theatre techniques to script writing. The event was a huge success.

Katie Baxter has received 2 scholarships from Johnson and Wales University in Denver. She has the Presidential Academic Scholarship of $5000 renewable each year for four years and the Prostart Scholarship in the amount of $1000 also renewable each year. Johnson and Wales University is the alma mater of numerous famous chefs including Emeril Lagasse and Tyler Florence, both who have cooking shows on the Food Network! “The College of Culinary Arts at Johnson and Wales University is more than just a cooking school. You start the engine and shift into reverse. When you look into the rearview mirror to back out of your parking space, you notice a piece of paper stuck to the middle of the rear window. So, you shift into park, unlock your doors, and jump out of your car to remove that paper (or whatever it is) that is obstructing your view. When you reach the back of your car, that is when the carjackers appear out of nowhere, jump into your car and take off. And guess what, ladies? I bet your purse is still in the car. So now the carjacker has your car, your home address, your money, and your keys. Your home and your whole identity are now compromised! If you see a piece of paper stuck to your back window, just drive away. Remove the paper later.

Necessity is the Mother of Invention! (A need or problem encourages creative efforts to meet the need or solve the problem.) Bartering has been a common practice since the beginning of time. It is the exchange of products or services with equal value, and we have all been feeling a bit of a back lash from $4.00 a gallon gas prices. If you need (or just want) something, and can’t really afford the cash to pay for it, you might try to barter. For instance, suppose you had a herd of cattle. Cattle Puzzle on Page 15

prices are down, and you don’t really want to sell right now. You need a good sturdy pipe fence gate. While getting a bid from the welder, you discover he needs some dental work done. The dentist down the road from you has been talking to you about getting some cattle. You talk to the dentist, work out a deal to trade him some cattle (or a cow) for the dental work on the welder, and you get your new gate! You might have a talent for sewing, and the hair salon owner might need a dress altered. Bartering is done on the smallest level with children trading a peanut butter sandwich for a candy bar. Necessity or Desire, just get out there and see what can happen when you just ask! You might be surprised with what you can get done. (Don’t forget Uncle Sam doesn’t care if you barter, you just have to remember to inform your accountant, so you can pay the proper taxes on the value of the trade!) Puzzle on Page 11
