Kiss Brings Their “End Of The Road” Tour To Toyota Center The KISS farewell tour, appropriately named the “End Of The Road” tour will finally be reaching Houston this month. This momentous event will take place on September 9th at Toyota Center. The announcement was made on NBC’s America’s Got Talent September of last year and it sent the internet into overdrive with fans hoping their city would get one final KISS show. Well, Houston audiences are definitely going to be among the lucky ones. After nearly 50 years, KISS is saying goodbye to touring. The over-the-top purveyors of heavy metal have embarked on a year-long finale tour titled “One Last KISS: End of the Road World Tour.” The 105-stop tour spans North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand and will encapsulate KISS’ larger-than-life show for the last time. While the band travels by jet, the End of the Road tour rolls on 17 trucks, about 40 percent larger than past arena tours. It also dwarfs anything built during the legendary KISS extravaganzas of the 1970s. Known for their trademark largerthan-life blistering performances, KISS has proven for decades why they are hands down the most iconic live show in rock n roll. The Rock & Roll Hall of Famers who have sold more than 100 million albums worldwide have said this tour is devoted to the millions of KISS Army fans. “All that we have built and all that we have conquered over the past four decades could never have happened without the millions of people worldwide who’ve filled clubs, arenas and stadiums over those years. This will

be the ultimate celebration for those who’ve seen us and a last chance for those who haven’t. KISS Army, we’re saying goodbye on our final tour with our biggest show yet and we’ll go out the same way we came in... Unapologetic and Unstoppable,” said KISS. “This is our victory lap,” Paul Stanley said. “It’s us celebrating everything we created with our audience and with our fans. It’s that time for people who’ve been with us over the years to come and celebrate all that we’ve had together. There’s people who’ve never seen us before and they’re leaving the show

and thinking, ‘Why didn’t I come to this earlier?’ It’s terrific.” Asked why he thinks KISS has endured this long, while other bands have fallen by the wayside, Stanley said: “People who experience KISS really are affected by it in a way that goes beyond it being a rock band. It’s fas-

cinating and amazing to be at these shows nightly and see parents and grandparents who want their offspring to experience what they experienced. It’s far beyond typical rock bands, where you hate the idea of your little brother being there, or your neighbor. KISS is an amazing tribe and it’s incredibly gratifying.” Formed in 1973 by Stanley, Simmons, drummer Peter Criss and lead guitarist Ace Frehley, KISS staged its first “farewell” tour in 2000, the last to feature the group’s original lineup. In 2000, KISS embarked on a farewell tour, four years after the original quartet reunited and returned to wearing their iconic makeup to renewed success. That long goodbye kept getting extended, and by 2003, both Criss and Frehley were gone. KISS chose to continue with new members wearing the face paint. “We thought we couldn’t exist without Ace and Peter,” says Simmons, “and were wrong.” KISS’s current lineup consists of Stanley and fellow original member Gene Simmons, alongside later band additions, guitarist Tommy Thayer (since 2002) and drummer Eric Singer (on and off since 1991). But this lineup – with Thayer and drummer Eric Singer – has been steady since Criss’ departure in 2004, which means a lot of people in the audience on Kiss’ farewell tour have only seen this lineup. And they definitely do their best to do the music justice. Is this really the End of the Road? It’s not their first farewell tour, after all. Paul Stanley has reportedly said it’s too early to say what they’ll do at the end of the End of the Road. “Quite honestly,” Paul Stanley said, “I can’t imagine me ever having attached to my name, ‘formerly of Kiss.’ “ Stanley formed KISS in 1973 along with bassist and back-up vocalist Gene Simmons. Inspired by glam rock, the band was determined to make its performances into an all-encompassing experience. “We wanted to create iconic images. We wanted to be larger than life.” Stanley says. “If you take a shy, chubby kid who is not very popular and put him behind makeup and give him a strong enough persona, that can get you pretty far.” KISS dominated the mid-’70s, producing comic books, pinball machines, KISS dolls and other merchandise, as well as countless TV appearances, thousands of concerts and

even a movie in 1978, “KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park.” They’ve sold records too – 100 million of them (25 million albums), making them one of the best selling groups in the history of hard rock. While there are those who refuse to acknowledge it, KISS has had a profound impact not just on the rock music that’s followed them but even more so on the live concert industry in general. It could be argued that no band is as single-handedly responsible for the production arms race we’ve seen unfold on the concert stage as KISS, who featured the fog, flames, fire, smoke, sparks, pyro and confetti that characterize most arena concerts today before virtually any other artist, inspiring everyone from the Rolling Stones to U2 to up their game in the years to follow. Regardless of your feelings of KISS, the band will do their best to stage one of the biggest concert extravaganzas of their career on this farewell tour, most likely making it hard for any other rock act to top it. For this tour, KISS will be performing some of the most iconic songs of their career. At a recent concert at Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, New York, KISS’s set list looked like this: Detroit Rock City,Shout It Out Loud, Deuce, Say Yeah, I Love It Loud, Heaven’s on Fire, War Machine, Lick It Up, Calling Dr. Love, 100,000 Years, Cold Gin, God of Thunder, Psycho Circus, Love Gun, I Was Made for Lovin’ You, Black Diamond, followed by the encores: Encore: Beth featuring Eric Singer on piano, Crazy Crazy Nights, and Rock and Roll All Nite. As you can see, this is going to be one helluva show. Who knows what surprises it may bring by the time they reach Houston’s Toyota Center on September 9th. If this turns out to be what we experience here, the show is going to be fantastic. If you haven’t gotten your tickets yet, make sure you do. This just may be the last time you really see KISS in concert.

Iron Maiden’s “Legacy Of The Beast Tour” Comes To Houston This Month! Iron Maiden will bring the Legacy Of The Beast Tour to North America in 2019 for an extensive series of arena and amphitheater shows produced by Live Nation, including a first ever headline appearance at the Banc of California Stadium in LA. The tour will cover a total of 33 cities right across the U.S.A. and Canada, including Portland, Oregon where they haven’t played since 1987 on the Somewhere In Time Tour, Hartford, Connecticut where they last played in 2005, and many other places not visited since the Maiden England 2012/13 Tour. Iron Maiden’s Legacy Of The Beast Tour will reach Houston’s Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion on Sunday, September 22nd. The band’s triumphant first leg of the Legacy Of The Beast Tour opened in Europe earlier this year to outstanding critical acclaim, not just by the 750,000+ fans who came to see the show but right across national press and rock media, including The Times (UK) newspaper calling it “..an extraordinary show filled with world class theatrics…a masterclass in performance and staging.” Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson comments, “We’re excited to return to North America and share the Legacy Of The Beast Tour with all our friends there! We’re immensely proud of this show and we’ve had great reactions from the many fans who came to see us in Europe earlier this year. The production is based on our mobile game THE LEGACY OF THE BEAST which basically takes various incarnations of Eddie into many different Maiden Worlds. This inspired us to put together a stage show to take our fans through different Worlds and experiences set to appropriate songs. It is not that easy designing different Worlds on stage and we put a huge amount of work into this to make it work and the end result we feel is our most spectacular and certainly the most complex show to date. We’ve got all kinds of crazy things going on, including a replica Spitfire plane dominating the stage during ‘Aces High,’ tons of pyro, a giant Icarus, muskets, claymores and some truly marvellous flame-throwers which I have a hell of a lot of fun with, as you will see! And of course we have Eddie, as you’ve never seen him before, and absolutely loads of other surprises. I’ve had the time of my life playing with all these magnificent props on stage, it’s been fantastic, we can’t wait to bring this show to you!” Steve Harris, bassist and founder member adds, “We gave a lot of thought to the set list for this Tour as the songs needed to follow the narrative of the changing worlds of the stage show. We feel we ended up with a very strong and well balanced set mixing songs we haven’t played in many years like ‘Flight Of Icarus,’ ‘Sign Of The Cross’ and ‘The Clansman’ with songs we know the fans want to hear like ‘The Trooper,’ ‘2 Minutes To Midnight,’ ‘The Number Of The Beast,’ ‘Fear Of The Dark,’ ‘Run To The Hills,’ ‘Hallowed Be Thy Name’ and others, reflecting the journey through the different themes of the show. The whole band is really enjoying this tour and we are really looking forward to seeing everybody again!” Iron Maiden are an institution. Over the course of 43 years they have come to embody a spirit of fearless creative independence, ferocious dedication to their fans, and a cheerful indifference to their critics that’s won them a following that spans every culture, generation, and timezone. A story of gritty determination and courageous defiance of the naysayers, theirs has been an adventure like no other. And with the opening leg of 2018’s brand new Legacy Of The Beast tour selling out headline stadium, arena and festival shows across 23 European territories to over 750,000 fans, the band are showing no signs of slowing down any time just yet. 2018 and Maiden’s latest Legacy Of The Beast Tour is being hailed by fans and media alike

as the most extravagant and visually stunningly live show of the band’s career to date. Both the production and the decades-spanning set-list of fan favourites and hits were inspired by their mobile phone game of the same name. The multithemed concert opens with a replica Spitfire flying above the stage and progresses through a twohour theatrical journey of ever-evolving interlocking stage sets with multiple incarnations of Eddie, pyrotechnics and special effects including muskets, claymores, flame throwers, a giant electrified crucifix, a noose, gallows and a gargantuan Icarus to name just a few. With over 90 million album sales, more

than 2000 live performances in 63* countries, tens of millions of fans and 16 studio albums of unerring quality and power to their name, Iron

Maiden have more than earned their proudly-held status as one of the most influential and revered rock bands of all time.

Fozzy Perform At Warehouse Live Fozzy will be appearing this month in concert at Warehouse Live on Thursday, September 26. Fozzy — the band featuring former WWE wrestling superstar Chris Jericho alongside members of Stuck Mojo — has announced the “Unleashed In The West” 2019 headline tour. The U.S. trek, which includes special guest Jared Nichols James, starts on September 5 in Denver and wraps on September 28 in Atlanta. The Fozzy members will take a break from the studio to tour for the first time in 2019 as they prepare for the release of their new record. Says Jericho: “When we got the call to join Iron Maiden on their Banc Of California Stadium show in Los Angeles, we knew two things were imminent. One, this might be the biggest show Fozzy has ever played. Two, one show isn’t enough. So we decided to head out all across the western U.S. to spread the Fozzpel and celebrate this great time in our lives! Plus, it gets us out of the studio for a breath of fresh air... it gets a little stuffy in there sometimes when you’re recording a new record! So come ROCK with us and be a part of the most energetic, electric and FUN rock n roll show in the world today. Don’t miss Fozzy ‘Unleashed In the West’!!!” Guitarist Rich Ward adds: “It’s been almost six months since we wrapped up our amazing 200-city tour in support of the ‘Judas’ album. Since then, we’ve been sequestered to a top-secret bunker where we are writing what will become our next record. As much as we love the creative environment of the studio, there is no substitute for loud amps and the unique exchange of energy that only occurs on the big stage. In September, we return to that stage, in what will be one of our biggest and boldest tours to date. Grab your helmets and dancing shoes, Fozzy is coming to town!” According to a series of short films broadcast on the Internet, Fozzy is a legendary American metal band who, unable to get out of their record contract, spent 20 years in Japan; when they returned to the U.S., lead singer Moongoose McQueen and the rest of the band found that artists like the Scorpions and Ozzy Osbourne had become stars by stealing Fozzy’s material. In reality, Fozzy is fronted by WWF wrestler Chris Jericho, with the remainder of the group consisting of Atlanta rap-metal outfit Stuck Mojo. Shortly after the videos were introduced in October 2000, Fozzy’s self-titled debut album was released by Palm Pictures/ Megaforce as a tie-in. A short tour and an MTV special (no doubt due to the WWF’s contract with the network’s parent company) led to minor recognition from the metal underground, but Jericho’s wrestling commitments cut the band short after its release. Still, after Stuck Mojo wrote and released an album, and Jericho won the heavyweight championship, they came back together and recorded another album, this time with writing contributions from Jericho and guitarist Rich Ward. The results, Happenstance, were released on Megaforce in the summer of 2002. 2005 saw the release of All That Remains, the group’s first collection to feature all-original material. The album sold over 100,000 copies and was generally well received by both fans and critics. Chasing the Grail, released in 2010, helped to further cement the band as not only a legitimate, populist metal act, but a force to be reck-

oned with as well. Released in 2012, Sin and Bones, the band’s third collection of originals, premiered at number one on the Billboard Heatseekers chart, eventually making its way to the coveted Top 200 albums chart, while 2014’s Do You Wanna Start a War proved to be the band’s most successful outing to date, debuting in the number 53 slot on the Billboard Top 200 and cracking the Top Ten on the Hard Rock Albums chart. In April 2017, the band released the title cut from their seventh studio long-player, Judas, which arrived later that October.

Their name is Heartstring, and they really had a great setlist. They were performing songs from Free, The Mavericks, Fleetwood Mac, Eagles, and even “House Of The Rising Son” by The Animals. This female-fronted band was certainly talented and a lot of fun. Check ‘em out sometime.

The band was founded in 2000 by current members Bobby Cayton and Joel Gregoire. MUSIC NEWS

Gino Vannelli Performs at Dosey Doe Gino Vannelli will be returning to the Houston area this month for a very special and intimate concert at Dosey Doe in The Woodlands on Wednesday, September 25th. Gino is touring in support of his new album release, Wilderness Road. This is Gino’s 19th studio album release. Wilderness Road is Gino’s first album of all new originals in nearly a decade, releasing a whole new set of emotions for the Canadian musician and singer. The album features many great new songs packed with the emotions and wonderful vocal skills that Gino has been known for since his first breakthrough song, “People Gotta Move” on his second album release, Powerful People in 1974. However it was his song, “I Just Wanna Stop” off his 1978 album, Brother To Brother that really catapulted him into the spotlight. “I Just Wanna Stop” made it to No. 4 on the Billboard chart. It became a No. 1 hit in Canada, and received a Grammy Award nomination. His next album, Nightwalker yielded the hit song, “Living Inside Myself”. It was his second top ten hit in the U.S., peaking at No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100. It went on to reach No. 5 in the U.S. and No. 2 in Canada. Gino was on a roll. Other great hits followed such as “Hurts To Be In Love,” “Wild Horses,” and “Black Cars.” Gino has also won Canada’s Juno Award for Best Male Artist in 1976 and 1979. Gino and his brother Joe Vannelli shared the Juno Award for Recording Engineer of the Year three times: in 1986 for “Black Cars,” in 1987 for “Wild Horses”/”Young Lover,” and in 1991 for “The Time of Day”/”Sunset on L.A.”. Gino has certainly made his mark on the music industry. As we said, now Gino is back with his first new batch of great new songs in almost a decade and the results are fantastic. In a perfect world, several of these songs would become bonafide hits. Songs like “Ghost Train,” “The Long Arm of Justice,” and “The Woman Upstairs” will definitely capture your total attention.

We had a chance to sit down and talk to Gino about the new album and he gave us some great insight into the new releases and the inspiration behind them. Music News: Hello Gino. Congratulations on the new album. You have some pretty provocative subject matter here. I hate to ask where your inspiration comes from. Some of the songs are pretty deep. “Wrestling With Angels” is a pretty deep song. I hope that doesn’t come from a life story of yours. Gino Vannelli: Well, you know, everyone has thoughts about . something bad that happens in your life. Or knows someone that’s close to the family. There’s not many degrees of separation between catastrophic events and ourselves. There’s a whole lot of things I wanted to tackle on the record. One was “Wrestling With Angels,” about self-emulation. “The Long Arm Of Justice” was loosely based on Adam Walsh, John Walsh’s son, who was kidnapped and violently killed. They never found the perpetrator, but he died of some unrelated incident some thirty or forty years later. I asked the philosophical question, “do we pay for our crimes” and I came to the conclusion that we pay for our nature one way or the other. Other topics, like “Wilderness Road” is largely biographical. “The Woman Upstairs” is about a woman who lived in the upstairs tenement where I lived as a kid. Music News: So then that song is based on a factual occurrence. Gino Vannelli: Oh yes, yeah, yeah, of course. It’s very factual. Music News: I found that song a bit disturbing.... especially at the end where she convicted and given 25 years in prison. Gino Vannelli: Yes, that was a very difficult thing. In Quebec, especially in those days, it’s still on the books, but not practiced anymore. It was called ‘Napoleonic Law.’ Really, in those days, nobody went around snitching on other people. If a woman was being battered... I re-

member many of my uncles and people in the family would just say, ‘mind your own business.’ And in her case, she was driven to the point where she murdered her spouse and instead of it being heralded as self-defense, several people in the 60s thought it was premeditated murder. We obviously have grown from that, but alas many people have suffered injustices. Music News: Can you tell us about a couple of more positive songs on the album. Gino Vannelli: I wouldn’t say that’s a negative song, it’s just a real life song. Well the “Road To Redemption” is about someone wanting to make good and it’s sort of a contrite love song. “Give Me Back My Life” is a typical, but tongue-in-cheek about a lost love and something figuring he’s left his soul in the house she kicked him out of. “Older n’ Wizer.” I had many versions of “Older n’ Wizer.” I think I recorded it four or five times. I really like this version. The lyrics are quite hilarious to me because many of my friends and people of my age group proclaimed their reformed, but most of them are forced into reform only because they can’t do the things they used to do forty years ago. People get older and always remember the ‘crazy days’ and this one is about someone saying that he’s a much better person now, but the key line is ‘If I could be any better than I am now, I’d be dead.’ It’s kind of a warped look at what’s moral or immoral. Music News: A lot of us have given up our bad habits and wayward ways when we were young and indestructible. Gino Vannelli: Yeah, and a lot of it is involuntary. one years old or you’ll just perish. You’ll just fall on your face, and I think that’s the comedy of it. I’m kind of laughing at the self-delusion of people thinking they have reformed other than nature forcing them into reform. Music News: What about the song, “Ghost Train.” Gino Vannelli: “Ghost Train” is a personal experience. It’s sort of a a mystical experience. A long time ago in the 80s I took a trip to the Andes and I sort of wanted to leave my life behind and it just so happened that my wife happened to be pregnant and it’s hard to explain. You just have to read it and listen to it. It’s a mystical journey back into this world in just a much better way, being in a different way. Music News: Will you be performing any of the new material when you appear at Dosey Doe this month?

Ausländer Performs at The Acadia Bar This has been a great month for us to see new bands. This night we wound up at The Acadia Bar and discovered the band Auslander. Auslander is from Odessa, Texas. The Band originally formed in 2010 and consisted of only original drummer (Zachary Camden) and guitarist/ vocalist (Robert Wester). In late 2011 Auslander booked a show at Dos Amigos February 4th, 2012, and took in guitarist John Minjarez to fill in as a bassist for the show. since, Auslander has picked up Christian Camden on bass guitar and John Minjarez on rhythm guitar. The concert was a battle of the bands to open for Suicide Silence February 14th, and Auslander placed but At the time the band only had two or three full length songs, which only one still exists on the All Is Lost album track list, the first song ever written by the band (Distant Screams), and the show opened opportunities to play shows with bands like The Word Alive and I See Stars. unfortunately Late that summer Robert had been taken into CPS custody hundreds of miles from the band, putting the project at a stand-still. Despite the setback, Rob had spent the majority of the following two years working on the songs that would later be released on the ‘All Is Lost’ album series, and in Late 2014 Robert had moved back to Odessa, TX with this new material in hopes of getting the project together again. By january 2015 Auslander was booking shows with J and B Productions and other local bands with their first few songs, picking up Matthew Walters on lead vocals and Alexander Cox on the drums. In late 2018, Auslander released their first full length debut album ‘All Is Lost Volume I’ with a finalized lineup and are currently promoting the release of their second full lenth album ‘All Is Lost Volume II’ (2019). We have two videos from this show to share with you right now on HMNTV - Houston Music News Television at houstonmusicnewstelevision1 on youtube, so you can start watching now.

The sounds of Classic Rock filled Loaded Barrels this night when we dropped by. On stage was Common Ground and they were cranking out a lot of crowd favorites. From Creedence Clearwater Revival (“Bad Moon Rising”) to Aerosmith (“Sweet Emotion”) to 3 Doors Down (“Krytonite”), they were performing one great hit after another. We especially liked their version of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “What’s Your Name”. They really rocked on that one. If you’re on FM 1960, be sure to check out this cool little club. They have great live music every weekend.

You name it, they can play it... Bad Company, The Rolling Stones, Foo Fighters, Robin Trower, and even Alice Cooper, they got it covered. It was a really good set by The Hydro-Phonics. We had a great time there. Be sure to check out The Nose Dive Bar. Conveniently located on Greens Road, The Nose Dive Bar serves up some stiff drinks and some hot music. Drop by and visit with them sometime.

Geoff Tate Performs at The Scout Bar Multi-platinum selling, GRAMMY®nominated singer/songwriter Geoff Tate will embark on a worldwide tour highlighting songs from all 17 albums he has done throughout his 35 year career. He will bring this tour to The Scout Bar this month on Saturday, September 21st. Geoff is regarded as one of the most skilled vocalists in the rock genre with hundreds of modern, popular artists citing him as a major influence. Geoff Tate will present his upcoming all acoustic show with himself, backed by a 7-piece acoustic band of musicians from the United States and Ireland and will feature three guitar players, mandolin, cello, saxophone, violin and multiple percussion instruments to produce a high energy acoustic version of some of the heavy metal genres most recognized songs. Founded in 2014 by Queensrÿche vocalist Geoff Tate, Operation: Mindcrime specialize in melodic, narrative-driven progressive metal. Taking their name from Queensrÿche’s landmark 1988 concept album of the same name, the band formed as the result of Tate’s acrimonious split from his former group in 2012. After a tense twoyear period that saw both Tate and Queensrÿche touring under the moniker, a settlement was reached, with Tate losing the rights to the name, but awarded exclusive performance rights to Operation: Mindcrime and Operation: Mindcrime II. The newly minted band, which features a rotating cast of musicians with Tate at the helm, inked a deal with Frontiers shortly after forming. The Key, the group’s debut studio long-player and the first installment in a planned trilogy, was released in 2015, with Resurrection dropping the following year. The band completed the trilogy in 2017 with the release of New Reality. Taking the operatic vocal stylings of Judas Priest’s Rob Halford and Iron Maiden’s Bruce

Dickinson to whole new levels, Queensrÿche’s Geoff Tate remains one of heavy metal’s most talented and technically accomplished singers. Born on January 14, 1959 in Stuttgart, West Germany, Tate and his family relocated to Tacoma, Washington soon after. Tate became interested in music at an early age, especially symphonic works (additionally, his family always sang around the house, while his aunt was a talented opera singer). But Tate initially focused on a career in football until a knee injury prevented him from pursuing it any further. Soon after, Tate began to sing in local high school rock bands, including one such group called Tyrant. After attending Tacoma Community College for a year, Tate took a job with the Washington State Search and Rescue Team, a group that was trained to assist in “the recovery of crashed planes and lost people,” mainly in the Rocky Mountain region not far from Tacoma. Tate continued to sing with other bands during this time, including such local outfits as Myth and the Mob, the latter of which would become Queensrÿche by the early ’80s. Guitarists Chris DeGarmo and Michael Wilton formed Queensrÿche in 1981 in the Seattle suburb of Bellevue. Both guitarists had been playing in heavy metal cover bands and had decided to form a group that would play original material. The duo recruited high school friends Geoff Tate (vocals) and bassist Eddie Jackson (bass), as well as drummer Scott Rockenfield. Although they were initially grouped with the legions of pop-metal bands that dominated the American heavy metal scene of the ’80s, Queensrÿche were one of the most distinctive bands of the era. Where their contemporaries built on the legacy of Van Halen, Aerosmith, and Kiss, Queensrÿche constructed a progressive form of heavy metal that drew equally from the guitar pyrotechnics of post-Van Halen metal and ’70s art rock, most notably Pink Floyd and

Queen. After releasing a handful of ignored albums, the band began to break into the mainstream with the acclaimed 1988 album Operation: Mindcrime. Its follow-up, Empire, was the group’s biggest success, selling over two million copies due to the hit single “Silent Lucidity.” Queensrÿche never sustained that widespread popularity — like most late-’80s metal bands, their audience disappeared after the emergence of grunge. Nevertheless, they retained a large cult following well into the ensuing decades.

Gino Vannelli: I’ve got three or four worked up. We will be doing “Yet Something Beautiful.” I’ll probably be doing “Older n’ Wizer.” Maybe “Road To Redemption.” We’ll be doing 3 or 4 of them. It’s a two hour show. I don’t know yet. Music News: Well, I expect we’ll be hearing “I Don’t Wanna Stop,” “People Gotta Move,” “Wild Horses,” and “Black Cars. Gino Vannelli: Yeah, “Black Cars,” “Thinking Inside Myself,” “Brother To Brother.” Yeah, of course. I still love to perform those songs live. Touring is very important to me. I don’t over tour, but I like to still perform on stage. I like to know that production value, the engineering, the sound scaping, the musicianship, everything is A-1. I wouldn’t do it if it wasn’t totally there. The band I have, the 8-piece band is really a great band. My brother Ross does all the sound scaping, engineering and all the technical stuff, and I know he really takes care of business. I wouldn’t feel good if it wasn’t so near perfect as it’s always done. I wouldn’t tour if it wasn’t for Ross. He really knows my music and all the arrangements. He knows exactly how to present it to the audience sonically. Gino tells us that touring now is quite different for him today than it was 30 years ago. Back in the beginning it was out of necessity and not necessarily the best at times. Now, it’s a labor of love. He doesn’t need to tour, but he loves to tour now. He tells us that it reflects the mood of his show. He’s having a far better time now that he’s ever had in his life touring. And yes, that will definitely show when he performs this month at Dosey Doe, so if you’re looking for a great intimate show to attend this month, make it Gino Vannelli on September 25th at Dosey Doe.

Interscope / UMe Reissues U2’s The Unforgettable Fire and How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb

Interscope Records/UMe has released two more U2 reissues in conjunction with their massive U2 reissue campaign. Now they have reissued 1984’s The Unforgettable Fire, and 2004’s How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb. The albums were both simultaneously released on colored vinyl to coincide with the album’s color covers. The Unforgettable Fire has been released on wine-colored vinyl, and How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb has been released on limited-edition red vinyl. The albums are reissued on 180g limited-edition vinyl and both albums come with a 16 page booklet with the lyrics. As with the previously released albums, they have both been remastered and the results are stunning, as the albums’ clarity and quality have been greatly improved. For those of you fortunate to be able to pick up copies of these new album reissues, you will just be knocked out by the sound. One of the finer parts of these two albums being released simultaneously is the striking and distinctive sound differences between the songwriting and producing that result in the 20 year gap between the two albums. It’s truly amazing how far the band progressed in this period of time. Last year saw the releases of their Wide Awake In America EP (1985), Pop (1997), and All That You Can’t Leave Behind (2000). The Unforgettable Fire was released by U2 in 1984. It was the band’s 4th studio album and reached #12 on the Billboard 200 chart. It also signaled the beginning of a collaboration between producers, Daniel Lanois and Brian Eno, who would go on to produce several more of U2’s albums. It also featured U2’s first top 40 hit on the Billboard Hot 100, “Pride (In the Name of Love).” Other subsequent hits on the album included “Bad,” “A Sort of Homecoming” and “The Unforgettable Fire”. As of this date, the album has sold over 3 million copies worldwide, not bad for the band’s fourth endeavor. The name of the album is a tribute to “The Unforgettable Fire”, an art exhibit about the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. Recording on the album beganin May of 1984 at Slane Castle. The band took time to actually move into the castle to write and gather inspiration for their new masterpiece. Completion of the album took place at Windmill Lane Studios later on in the year. Their first three albums had been recorded at Windmill Lane Studios. Making a special guest appearance on the album was The Pretenders’ Chrissie Hynde

on the song, “Pride (In the Name of Love).” “How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb,” was released in 2004. It was U2’s eleventh studio album. It also racked up U2’s sixth #1 on the Billboard 200 chart and featured the top 40 hit “Vertigo.” Other hits off the album included All Because of You,” “Sometimes You Can’t Make It on Your Own” and “City of Blinding Lights.” “How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb” won a total of nine Grammy Awards, including an Album of the Year honor. This album marked another change in direction for the band and it was produced by Steve Lillywhite. Additional production value came from Chris Thomas, Jacknife Lee, Nellee Hooper, Flood, Daniel Lanois, Brian Eno, and Carl Glanville. Subsequently this album took longer for the band to record. After spending approximately 9 months on the album, the band, unhappy with the results brought in Steve Lillywhite to take over production. Steve and the band spent 6 months re-recording and re-working the songs until the band was totally satisfied. Bono credits this album as U2’s “first” true rock album. He stated, “It’s taken us twenty years or whatever it is, but this is our first rock album.” “How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb” went number one in 30 countries, including the United States. It has sold over 10 million albums worldwide. It was the fourth-highest selling album of 2004. How’s that for a record! Both of these albums are definitely gems that should be added to your collection. It signals two more fantastic re-releases from Interscope Records/UMe in their quest to reissue all of U2’s magnificent albums. As we said before, the production on these new releases is unbelievable and definitely far more superior that the original releases. Don’t wast any time now, make sure and pick up these beautiful colored vinyl releases while you still have a chance. They won’t last long.
