The Dave Matthews Band Performs at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion May 31

In a much-anticipated announcement that has sent waves of excitement throughout the music community, the Dave Matthews Band has unveiled the dates for their 2024 U.S. Summer Tour. The tour, which promises to be a groundbreaking event in terms of both musical performance and environmental sustainability, will make a stop at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in The Woodlands, Texas, on Friday, May 31st.

The Dave Matthews Band, known for their dynamic live shows and eclectic blend of rock, jazz, and world music influences, has long been a champion of environmental causes. This summer tour marks a significant milestone in their ongoing efforts to promote sustainability and reduce the ecological footprint of live music events. In partnership with Live Nation, the band will debut their “On the Road To Zero Waste” initiative, an ambitious program aimed at diverting at least 90% of fan-generated waste from

landfills.

Leading the charge in this ecofriendly endeavor is none other than Dave Matthews himself, who was appointed as a UN Environment Goodwill Ambassador in 2019. Recognized for his passionate advocacy for environmental conservation, Matthews will work hand-in-hand with Live Nation-operated venues throughout the tour to implement a comprehensive waste reduction strategy. This collaborative effort seeks to set a new standard for sustainability in the music industry, inspiring fans and fellow artists alike to prioritize the health of our planet.

Live Nation, the world’s largest live entertainment company, has pledged its full support to the “On the Road To Zero Waste” initiative. The company will deploy zero waste green teams at each venue, establishing zero waste stations, coordinating food donations, and overseeing waste sorting and composting efforts. Additionally, Live Nation will work to minimize the use of single-use plastics, opting for more

eco-friendly alternatives whenever possible. By leveraging their vast network of venues and resources, Live Nation aims to create a ripple effect of positive change throughout the live music landscape.

In conjunction with their waste reduction efforts, the Dave Matthews Band has also renewed their commitment to The Nature Conservancy’s Plant a Billion Trees campaign. Building upon their impressive track record of having already contributed to the planting of four million trees since 2020, the band has pledged to plant an additional one million trees as part of their 2024 tour. This reforestation initiative not only helps to combat climate change by sequestering carbon dioxide but also provides vital habitats for wildlife and supports the livelihoods of communities around the world.

Recognizing that the environmental impact of touring extends beyond the

venues themselves, the Dave Matthews Band has also partnered with REVERB, a nonprofit organization dedicated to greening music tours and engaging fans in environmental action. Through this collaboration, the band will offset the carbon emissions generated by their travel and that of their fans, ensuring that the tour’s carbon footprint is minimized to the greatest extent possible. By investing in renewable energy projects and supporting reforestation efforts, the Dave Matthews Band aims to set an example of responsible touring practices for the entire music industry.

As anticipation builds for the 2024 U.S. Summer Tour, fans are not only eager to experience the Dave Matthews Band’s legendary live performances but also to be a part of a movement that prioritizes the health of our planet. The band’s enduring success, built upon a foundation of musical innovation and emotional authenticity, has earned them a devoted following that spans generations. From their early days playing

intimate club shows in Charlottesville, Virginia, to their rise to international stardom with iconic albums like “Under the Table and Dreaming” and “Crash,” the Dave Matthews Band has consistently pushed the boundaries of their craft while remaining true to their core values.

The release of their latest album, “Walk Around the Moon,” in May 2023 showcased the band’s continued evolution and artistic growth. Produced by the renowned Rob Evans, the album finds Dave Matthews in a contemplative and introspective mood, grappling with themes of love, loss, and the passage of time. Yet, even in moments of profound reflection, the album still manages to capture the infectious energy and celebratory spirit that have become hallmarks of the band’s sound. Fans can expect to hear a mix of new material and beloved classics during the upcoming tour, all performed with the virtuosic musicianship and improvisational flair that have made the Dave Matthews Band a live music phenomenon.

As the music world eagerly awaits the start of the 2024 U.S. Summer Tour, the Dave Matthews Band’s commitment to sustainability and environmental activism has taken center stage. By partnering with industry leaders like Live Nation and organizations like The Nature Conservancy and REVERB, the band is demonstrating the power of music to drive positive change and inspire fans to take action in their own lives. The “On the Road To Zero

Waste” initiative, combined with the band’s ongoing reforestation efforts and carbon offset program, sets a new benchmark for what is possible when artists, venues, and fans unite behind a common cause.

For those fortunate enough to secure tickets to the Dave Matthews Band’s performance at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion on May 31st, 2024, the experience promises to be nothing short of unforgettable. Not only will attendees be treated to an evening of exceptional music, but they will also be participating in a collective effort to create a more sustainable future for our planet. As the band takes the stage, their message of environmental stewardship will resonate with fans, empowering them to become agents of change in their own communities.

In a world increasingly grappling with the challenges posed by climate change, the Dave Matthews Band’s 2024 U.S. Summer Tour serves as a beacon of hope and a call to action. By harnessing the unifying power of music and leveraging their platform to promote sustainability, the band is demonstrating that individual actions, when multiplied by the passion and dedication of a community, can have a profound impact on the world around us. As fans count down the days until the tour kicks off, they can take pride in knowing that they are not just witnessing musical history in the making, but also contributing to a brighter, cleaner future for generations to come.

Josey Scott’s Saliva, Trapt, Adema, Tantric, and One Day Alive Perform At Warehouse Live May 23

On Thursday, May 23rd, the stars will align at Warehouse Live Midtown in Houston, Texas, for an epic night of rock music that promises to leave fans breathless. This incredible lineup features a mix of legendary bands and rising stars, each bringing their own unique style and energy to the stage.

Headlining the show is none other than Trapt, the California-based quartet that has been a driving force in the rock

scene since their formation in the late ’90s. Influenced by the grunge, heavy metal, and nu-metal sounds of the era, Trapt quickly made a name for themselves with their powerful live performances and undeniable stage presence. The band’s breakthrough came in 2002 with the release of their self-titled album, which included the hit single “Headstrong.” The song’s catchy melody, heavy riffs, and anthemic lyrics resonated with fans worldwide, propelling the band to the top of the charts and earning them a loyal following.

Over the years, Trapt has continued to evolve and refine their sound, incorporating elements of hard rock, punk, and even acoustic music into their repertoire. The band’s latest album, “Shadow Work,” showcases their growth as artists and their willingness to push the boundaries of their music. Fans attending the Warehouse Live Midtown show can expect a dynamic set that spans Trapt’s entire career, from the early hits that put them on the map to the fresh sounds of their latest release.

Sharing the stage with Trapt is Josey Scott’s Saliva, a band that has been a titan of the rock world since their formation in Memphis, Tennessee, in the late ’90s. Originally known for their unique blend of angsty hard rock and hip-hop elements, Saliva burst onto the mainstream scene in 2001 with the release of their sophomore album, “Every Six Seconds.” The record, which featured the hit singles “Click Click Boom” and “Your Disease,” earned the band a double-platinum certification and cemented their status as one of the most exciting acts in the nu-metal movement.

With Josey Scott at the helm, Saliva continued to release chart-topping albums throughout the early 2000s, including “Back Into Your System” and “Survival of the Sickest.” The band’s music evolved to incorporate more hard rock and punk influences, while still maintaining the signature sound that fans had come to love. Scott’s powerful vocals, combined with the band’s highenergy instrumentation, made Saliva a force to be reckoned with both in the studio and on stage. Concertgoers can anticipate a electrifying performance that showcases the band’s greatest hits and Scott’s undeniable charisma.

Next on the bill is Adema, a band that emerged from the same fertile musical ground in Bakersfield, California, that gave rise to nu-metal pioneers Korn. Formed in 2000, Adema quickly gained attention for their impressive pedigree, with frontman Mark Chavez being the half-brother of Korn’s Jonathan Davis and the rest of the lineup featuring members of local bands Juice and SexArt. The band’s self-titled debut album, released in 2001, showcased their ability to craft heavy, melodic songs that explored themes of personal struggle and triumph. Singles like “Giving In” and “The Way You Like It” resonated with

fans, earning the band a dedicated following and critical acclaim.

Despite lineup changes over the years, Adema has continued to release powerful music that stays true to their roots while incorporating new elements and influences. The band’s live shows are known for their raw energy, intense emotions, and the deep connection between the band and their audience. Fans at the Warehouse Live Midtown show can expect a cathartic performance that highlights the band’s most beloved songs and their enduring spirit.

Rounding out the main lineup is Tantric, a band that has been a staple of the post-grunge and alternative metal scenes since their formation in 1998. Featuring three-quarters of the original lineup of Days of the New, Tantric quickly established themselves as a force to be reckoned with, thanks to their hardhitting sound, introspective lyrics, and the soulful vocals of frontman Hugo Ferreira. The band’s self-titled debut album, released in 2001, went gold and spawned the chart-topping single “Breakdown,” which showcased their ability to blend heavy riffs with melodic hooks and emotional depth.

Over the course of their career, Tantric has released a string of Billboardcharting albums and hit singles, each one showcasing the band’s growth and evolution as artists. From the acousticdriven introspection of “After We Go” to the hard-hitting intensity of “Mind Control,” Tantric’s music has always been a reflection of the band’s experiences and the world around them. Ferreira, who has been the sole constant member of the band since 2007, brings a level of authenticity and passion to the stage that is unmatched. Fans can anticipate a powerful performance that showcases the band’s musicianship,

songwriting prowess, and the undeniable connection they share with their audience.

Opening the show is special guest One Day Alive, a Cincinnati-based band that has been turning heads with their fresh take on the rock genre. Formed in the mid-2010s, One Day Alive quickly gained a reputation for their high-energy live shows and their ability to craft songs that blend thick guitar riffs, melodic vocals, and pounding drums into a sound that is both modern and timeless. The band’s music explores themes of personal struggle and triumph, delivering a sense of honesty and authenticity that resonates with fans.

One Day Alive’s rise to prominence has been nothing short of meteoric. The band’s debut single, “Just Tonight,” released in the summer of 2021, received half a million streams in its first 30 days, showcasing the band’s ability to connect with audiences on a deep level. Their follow-up single, “Bringing on the Pain,” released in November 2022, reached #13 on the SMR charts and accumulated an additional half-million streams on Spotify alone. With their debut full-length album on the horizon, produced in collaboration with Saving Abel’s Jason Null, One Day Alive is poised to make a major impact on the rock world.

As the lights dim and the first notes ring out at Warehouse Live Midtown on May 23rd, fans will be transported into a world of rock music

that spans generations and genres. Each band on the bill brings something unique and powerful to the stage, from Trapt’s heavy-hitting anthems to Saliva’s hiphop-infused hard rock, and from Adema’s melodic fury to Tantric’s soulful introspection. With One Day Alive kicking things off, concertgoers will witness the next generation of rock talent before being swept away by the legendary performers that have defined the genre for decades.

Legendary Argentine Singer-Songwriter Leo

Dan to Perform at Smart Financial Centre in Houston This May

Get ready, music lovers! The incomparable Argentine singersongwriter Leo Dan will be bringing his timeless classics to the Smart Financial Centre in Sugar Land, TX on May 24th as part of his highly anticipated Celebrando a una Leyenda tour. With a career spanning over six decades and countless hit songs, the 82-year-old icon shows no signs of slowing down.

Born Leopoldo Dante Tevez in the small town of Atamisqui, Argentina in 1942, Leo Dan discovered his passion for music at a young age. By his teenage years, he had mastered several instruments and begun composing his own songs. In 1963, at the age of 20, he took a chance and moved to Buenos Aires to pursue his dream. Within a month of arriving, he had signed with CBS Records and released his first single, “Celia,” which shot to the top of the charts in Argentina and Spain.

This early success marked the

beginning of Leo Dan’s meteoric rise to stardom. He quickly became a leading figure in the “Nueva Ola” (New Wave) movement that revolutionized Latin pop music in the 1960s. His romantic ballads, characterized by his smooth, emotive vocals and catchy melodies, became radio staples across the Spanish-speaking world. Classics like “Cómo Te Extraño Mi Amor,” “Fanny,” and “Estelita” cemented his status as a pop sensation.

In the late 1960s, Dan made the move to Mexico, where he found even greater success. He released a string of hit albums, including the now-legendary Te He Prometido and Con Los Brazos Cruzados, which blended his signature pop sound with traditional Mexican mariachi music. His popularity soared to new heights, with sold-out tours across Latin America, Europe, Asia, and beyond.

Throughout the 1970s, Dan’s star continued to rise. He released numerous chart-topping albums, such as Como Poder Saber Si Te Amo, Siempre Estoy

Pensando en Ella, and El Amor y la Felicidad. His live shows were the stuff of legend, with his powerful vocals and magnetic stage presence captivating audiences around the globe.

After a brief hiatus in the 1980s, during which he explored his interests in politics and filmmaking back in Argentina, Dan returned to music with a vengeance. He settled in Miami in 1990 and embarked on a new chapter in his career. Albums like Soy de Cualquier Lugar, Como un Leon, and Después de Conocerte proved that his musical prowess had only grown with time.

In recent years, Dan has experienced a remarkable resurgence in popularity. His music has found a new generation of fans, thanks in part to the prominent featuring of his song “Te He Prometido” in the critically acclaimed 2018 film Roma. That same year, he released Celebrando a Una Leyenda, a live album featuring collaborations with contemporary Latin stars like Vicente Fernandez, Natalia Jimenez, and Rio Roma. The album was a massive success, peaking at #5 on the Latin streaming charts. A second volume, Celebrando a una Leyenda, Segunda Parte, followed in 2020 to similar acclaim.

Now, Houston fans will have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience the magic of Leo Dan live at Smart Financial Centre. With a career that has produced over 1,500 songs, more than 70 albums, and sales in the tens of millions, Dan’s influence on Latin music cannot be overstated. His songs have been covered by countless artists and translated into multiple languages, a testament to their timeless appeal.

Don’t miss your chance to see this living legend in action! Tickets for the May 24th show are on sale now through Ticketmaster.com and the Smart Financial Centre box office. VIP packages, including meet-and-greet opportunities, are also available.

With his unparalleled musicianship, decades of hits, and undeniable charisma, Leo Dan’s Houston concert promises to be an unforgettable night celebrating the very best of Latin music. Get your tickets now and prepare to be enchanted by the romantic sounds of a true icon.

Spanish Singer-Songwriter Natalia Jiménez to Headline

The Arena Theatre on May 31

Fans of Latin pop music are in for a treat as renowned Spanish singersongwriter Natalia Jiménez is set to take the stage at The Arena Theatre on May 31. The former lead vocalist of the hugely successful group La 5ª Estación will be performing a mix of her solo hits and fan favorites from her time with the band.

Jiménez, born Natalia Altea Jiménez Sarmento on December 29, 1981, began her musical journey at the tender age of 15, playing in the subway and on the streets of Madrid. Her talent and dedication caught the attention of BMG Entertainment, who signed her in 2001 and placed her as the lead singer of La 5ª Estación.

With La 5ª Estación, Jiménez achieved incredible success, scoring three number-one hits on the Spanish charts and nine Top 40 hits in Mexico. The group’s albums, including “Flores de Alquiler,” “El Mundo Se Equivoca,” and “Sin Frenos,” went platinum, cementing their status as one of the most popular Latin pop acts of the early 2000s. Jiménez co-wrote most of the band’s songs with guitarist Ángel Reyero and toured extensively, captivating audiences worldwide with her powerful vocals and stage presence.

In November 2010, La 5ª Estación decided to take a hiatus, allowing Jiménez to focus on her solo career. She quickly made a name for herself, collaborating with Latin music superstar Ricky Martin on the hit song “Lo Mejor de Mi Vida Eres Tú.” Her debut solo single, “Por Ser Tu Mujer,” was released in April 2011, followed by her self-titled album, “Natalia Jiménez,” later that summer. The album showcased Jiménez’s songwriting skills and creative control, with the artist penning the majority of the tracks and co-producing the entire record.

In the years that followed, Jiménez continued to make waves in the Latin music scene. She was featured on Daddy Yankee’s 2013 hit “La Noche de los Dos” and began working as a coach on Telemundo’s talent show “La Voz Kids” in 2014. Her second solo album, “Creo en Mi,” was released in early 2015, with its lead single, “Quedate con Ella,” and the follow-up, “Algo Brilla en Mi,” both charting high in Latin circles.

Demonstrating her versatility and ability to pay homage to her musical influences, Jiménez released a tribute album to the late Jenni Rivera in the fall of 2016 entitled “Homenaje a la Gran Senora.” The album was a heartfelt celebration of Rivera’s legacy and further showcased Jiménez’s incredible vocal range and emotive performances.

Throughout her career, Jiménez has collaborated with some of the biggest names in Latin music, including Marc Anthony, Daddy Yankee, and Ricky Martin. Her talents have earned

her numerous accolades, including Grammy and Latin Grammy Awards, and she has sold more than 3 million albums worldwide as a solo artist.

In 2019, Jiménez released the single “Nunca Es Tarde,” a collaboration with Jesús Navarro, the lead vocalist of the Mexican pop group Reik. The song, composed by Jiménez, Claudia Brant, and Jayson DeZuzio, became the theme for the second season of the Televisa and Univision series “Amar Sin Ley.”

Later that year, Jiménez released “México de mi corazón,” an album of rancheras produced by Armando Ávila. The album pays tribute to traditional Mexican music and features duets with notable artists such as Carlos Rivera, Pedro Fernández, Paquita la del Barrio,

Lila Downs, El Bebeto, and Banda MS. Accompanied by Mariachi Gama Mil and incorporating choirs with permission from the late Juan Gabriel, the album reached the top of the charts in Mexico and the United States, earning Jiménez a Gold Record and more than 55 million streams worldwide.

Alongside her successful music career, Jiménez has also made a name for herself as a coach on various iterations of the popular singing competition “The Voice.” She served as a coach for three seasons of “La Voz Kids USA,” winning twice, and also coached on “La Voz...Mexico.” In 2020, she returned to her home country of Spain to serve as a judge on the reality show “Operación Triunfo.” Most recently, in 2021, Jiménez coached on both the Kids and Senior versions of “La Voz” in Colombia, emerging victorious in both series. Her impressive track record on “The Voice” franchises has placed her tied for the second-most wins by a female coach, alongside Sarah Geronimo (Philippines), Kelly Clarkson (USA), and Pelageya

(Russia).

As Natalia Jiménez prepares to take the stage at The Arena Theatre on May 31, fans can expect an unforgettable evening filled with her incredible vocals, engaging stage presence, and a setlist spanning her successful solo career and her time with La 5ª Estación. With her unique blend of Latin pop, rancheras, and heartfelt ballads, Jiménez is sure to captivate the audience and create a truly memorable experience for all in attendance.

Legendary Guitarist Uli Jon Roth to Perform at Dosey Doe on May 18th

Guitar enthusiasts and rock music aficionados are in for a treat as the iconic Uli Jon Roth, former lead guitarist of the German hard rock band Scorpions, is set to take the stage at Dosey Doe in The Woodlands, Texas, on May 18th. The highly anticipated performance promises to be a mesmerizing showcase of Roth’s unparalleled guitar skills and his significant contributions to the world of neoclassical metal.

Uli Jon Roth, born Ulrich Roth in Düsseldorf, Germany, on December 18, 1954, began his musical journey at the tender age of 13. Just two years later, he was already performing live, displaying a natural talent and passion for the guitar that would eventually propel him to international stardom.

In the early 1970s, Roth joined the band Dawn Road, where he met vocalist

Klaus Meine. It was during this time that members of the Scorpions, who were temporarily on hiatus due to the departure of their guitarist Michael Schenker, took notice of Roth’s original material and decided to form a new lineup with him as their lead guitarist.

Roth’s tenure with the Scorpions, which began in 1973, produced some of the band’s most influential and critically acclaimed works. Albums such as “Fly to the Rainbow” (1974), “In Trance” (1975), and “Virgin Killer” (1976) showcased Roth’s exceptional soloing abilities and helped establish the Scorpions as international stars. His playing style, heavily influenced by Jimi Hendrix but infused with the elegance and fluidity of classical music, set him apart from his contemporaries and laid the groundwork for the neo-classical metal genre.

However, creative differences

began to surface during the recording of 1977’s “Taken by Force,” as Roth’s epic ambitions clashed with the band’s more straightforward hard rock approach. Following a turbulent world tour and the release of the live double album “Tokyo Tapes,” Roth parted ways with the Scorpions in 1978 to pursue a solo career.

Forming his own backing band, Electric Sun, Roth embarked on a musical journey that allowed him to fully explore his psychedelic and neo-classical influences. The band’s debut album, “Earthquake” (1979), showcased a sound that was reminiscent of Roth’s work with the Scorpions, but with a more pronounced Hendrix influence, longer songs, and a slightly hippie-ish vibe. This direction was further explored on the follow-up, “Fire Wind” (1981).

Roth’s musical evolution took a significant leap with the release of “Beyond the Astral Skies” in 1984. This album marked a departure from traditional rock and roll, as Roth delved into symphonic neo-classical rock, expanding his compositional palette and introducing his groundbreaking invention, the sixoctave Sky Guitar.

Following a hiatus from recording to focus on classical compositions, Roth returned to the spotlight in the 1990s with several ambitious projects. He directed the tribute special “A Different Side of Jimi Hendrix” for German television in 1991 and later performed his first rock symphony, “Europa Ex Favilla,” backed by the Brussels Symphony Orchestra in 1993.

In 1996, Roth made his longawaited return to recording with “Sky of Avalon: Prologue to the Symphonic Legends,” the first of a planned four-part symphonic series featuring the Sky Guitar. The album marked a new chapter in Roth’s career, as he continued to push the boundaries of rock-classical fusion.

Throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s, Roth remained active in both live performances and studio recordings. He joined the European leg of the G3 guitar virtuoso tour in 1998, sharing the stage with Michael Schenker and Joe Satriani, and released the critically acclaimed live and studio album “Transcendental Sky Guitar” in 2000.

More recently, Roth has continued to explore the intersection of classical music and rock, as evidenced by his 2003 release “Metamorphosis of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons” and the 2008 continuation of his Sky of Avalon project, “Under a Dark Sky.” In 2015, he paid homage to his roots with the Scorpions, releasing the double LP “Scorpions Revisited,” featuring 19 newly recorded tracks from the band’s early days.

As Uli Jon Roth prepares to take the stage at Dosey Doe, fans can expect a captivating performance that spans his illustrious career. From his groundbreaking work with the Scorpions to his innovative solo projects, Roth’s influence on the world of rock and metal is undeniable. His mastery of the guitar,

combined with his unique blend of classical and rock influences, has solidified his status as one of the most influential and respected guitarists of his generation.

The upcoming concert at Dosey Doe offers a rare opportunity for music lovers to witness a true legend in action. As Roth’s fingers dance across the frets of his signature Sky Guitar, audiences will be transported on a musical journey that showcases the virtuosity, passion, and innovation that have defined his

remarkable career.

With anticipation building for this exclusive event, tickets are expected to sell out quickly. Fans are encouraged to secure their seats early to avoid disappointment and ensure they are part of this unforgettable evening with one of rock music’s most iconic and influential guitarists, Uli Jon Roth.

Norteño Powerhouse Pesado to Perform at The Arena Theatre on May 11th

Fans of norteño music are in for a treat as the legendary group Pesado, formerly known as Grupo Pesado, is set to take the stage at The Arena Theatre on May 11th. The highly anticipated performance promises to be a night filled with the band’s signature blend of traditional norteño sounds and heartfelt lyrics that have made them a beloved fixture in the Latin music scene for over two decades.

Founded in 1993 in Nuevo Leon, Mexico, by frontman and accordionist Beto Zapata and bajo sexto player and vocalist Pepe Elizondo, Pesado has become one of the most successful and influential acts in the norteño genre. The group’s journey to stardom began with their debut album, “Ayudame a Olvidar,” released by MCM. Their follow-up, “Llego el Amor,” achieved gold status in 1994, cementing

their position as rising stars in the industry.

Throughout their illustrious career, Pesado has undergone several lineup changes, with notable additions including bassist Juan Antonio Pequeño in 1997 and ex-Grupo Límite drummer Luis Mario Garza in 1999. Despite these changes, the band has maintained a consistent level of excellence in their music, earning them a dedicated fanbase and critical acclaim.

Pesado’s breakthrough moment came with the release of their seventh LP, “A Tu Encuentro,” in 1999. The album, released under the new WeaMEX imprint, marked the first time the group entered the charts, setting the stage for a string of successful releases that would solidify their status as norteño royalty.

The early 2000s saw Pesado’s popularity soar to new heights, with

albums like “Todo Tuyo” (2001) and “Piensame un Momento” (2006) earning the group gold and platinum certifications and a Grammy nomination for Best Norteño Album. The latter release also sparked a crucial conversation about physical abuse and traditional notions of male machismo in Latin America, with the title track becoming a focal point of discussion on radio and television talk shows.

In 2008, Pesado celebrated their 15th anniversary with the release of “Corridos: Defendiendo el Honor,” a collection of classic corrido covers paying homage to iconic artists such as Los Cadetes de Linares, Ramón Ayala, and Los Tigres del Norte. The album showcased the band’s versatility and deep respect for the genre’s rich history. They followed this with “Sólo

Contigo,” a collection of new songs that further demonstrated their songwriting prowess.

Pesado’s commitment to preserving and celebrating the norteño tradition continued with the release of “Desde la Cantina, Vol. 1” in 2010. Recorded at Pico’s Bar in Nuevo Leon, the album paid tribute to historic songs from the 1940s by artists like Eliseo Robles, Lupe Tijerina de Los Cadetes de Linares, Don Cesareo Sánchez, and Los Cardenales de Nuevo León.

The band’s 2011 studio album, “Una Historia para Siempre,” featured the hit single “Mientras Dormías,” which referenced Zapata’s recent marriage and resonated with fans for its romantic theme. The album’s success led to a tour and a quick return to the studio, resulting in the release of “Mi Promesa” less than a year later. The album, considered one of the most romantic in Pesado’s discography, included three charting singles: the title track, “Que Bonito Es el Amor,” and “Le Creí.”.

In 2013, Pesado marked their 20th anniversary with a series of special releases and events. The single “Mi Primer Amor,” written by Zapata and dedicated to mothers, was released in January to critical acclaim and popular success. The band followed this with two more singles, “Cuando Estas de Buenas” and “Por Ti,” before celebrating their milestone anniversary with a spectacular concert at the Arena Monterrey. To commemorate the occasion, they released a pair of retrospective concert albums, “Directo 93-13, Vol. 1 & Vol. 2,” featuring guest appearances by Mariachi San Luis, Celso Piña, and Los Tigres del Norte’s Raul Hernandez.

Pesado’s momentum continued in 2015 with the release of “Abrázame,” an album preceded by five singles that dominated the airwaves and charts. The title track, released on the same day as the album, solidified Pesado’s status as a force to be reckoned with in the norteño genre.

In 2016, the band paid homage to another norteño legend with the release of “Tributo a los Alegres de Terán,” a tribute album dedicated to the work of a single historic force in the genre. The album, released by Disa, peaked at number two on the Mexican Regional Albums chart, further demonstrating Pesado’s ability to honor tradition while putting their own

unique spin on classic songs.

The lead-up to their 2018 album, “Los Angeles Existen,” was marked by a series of successful singles, including “Me Estorbas,” “Los Angeles Existen,” and “Yo No Tengo Remedio.” Despite a label change to Remex Music and a busy touring schedule, Pesado finally released the highly anticipated album in April 2018, featuring 13 new songs penned by Zapata, Elizondo, Elías Medina, and Felipe.

As Pesado prepares to take the stage at The Arena Theatre on May 11th, fans can expect a night filled with the band’s greatest hits, as well as new material that showcases their continued evolution and growth as artists. With their unparalleled musicianship, emotional depth, and unwavering commitment to their craft, Pesado promises to deliver an unforgettable performance that will leave audiences captivated and eager for more.

Don’t miss your chance to experience the magic of Pesado live in concert. Tickets for their May 11th show at The Arena Theatre are available now, and fans are encouraged to purchase them early to secure their spot at what promises to be one of the most exciting norteño events of the year.

IDLES Embrace “All is Love” Ethos on

Announce Massive 2024 Tour

See Them Live At White Oak Music Hall On May 22nd

Revelatory New Album
‘TANGK,’
34 Music News • May 2020

IDLES

(continued from previous page)

After over a decade of forging fortitude from chaos and spiritual defiance, the revelation behind IDLES’ wildly ambitious new album ‘TANGK’ is as straightforward as it is transcendent: “All is love and love is all.”

The rousing fifth LP from the critically-acclaimed Bristol punks, due out February 16th, 2024 via Partisan Records, marks an audacious metamorphosis for mastermind Joe Talbot and his band of visceral agitators. Where their earliest releases like the 2017 breakthrough ‘Brutalism’ exorcised Talbot’s personal traumas with furious intensity, ‘TANGK’ represents an about-face into a full-blooded embrace of life’s great humane affirmations and human connection as an antidote to suffering.

“I needed love. So I made it,” Talbot states plainly about the album’s inspirations amidst the pandemic era and the birth of his daughter. “I gave love out to the world and it feels like magic. This is our album of gratitude and power. All love songs. All is love.”

That positivity and quest for transcendence courses through early singles like the throbbing, libidinous “Dancer,” which features guest vocals from LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy and Nancy Whang. As Talbot repeats the mantra “I give myself to you/ As long as you move on the floor,” it celebrates the rapture of new romance but also IDLES’ unique bond with their ardently devoted fanbase.

“‘Dancer’ is the violence that comes from the pounding heart of the dancefloor and rushes through your body and gives you life from music, from love and from you,” Talbot explains.

The soulful slowburner “Grace” takes a more pensive approach, as Talbot’s weathered baritone delivers an epiphany - “No god, no king, I said love is the thing” - over swelling orchestration. It’s perhaps his most profound spiritual manifesto yet, discarding generational nihilism and toxic power structures for a more benevolent, unifying force.

Meanwhile, the taut intensity of the recently released “Gift Horse” showcases that IDLES haven’t gone soft

in embracing vulnerability. Its sinewy menace and stuttering grooves provide a backdrop for Talbot’s typically thoughtprovoking examinations of modern existence and self-empowerment: “All is love and love is all.”

The rallying cry for human connection as an antidote to life’s harsh realities has been a throughline for IDLES since their visceral 2017 debut ‘Brutalism.’ Fueled by Talbot’s adrenaline-blast lyricism documenting his struggles with addiction, abuse, toxic masculinity and more, the album was a critical and cult smash that quickly labeled them as scabrous post-punk agitators “taking the piss” out of society’s ills.

2018’s fearsome ‘Joy as an Act of Resistance’ doubled down, delivering a

muscular assertion of vulnerability as strength in the face of modern tribalism and injustice. IDLES’ music became a life-affirming rallying cry, as they forged cathartic solidarity with their fanbase. As Talbot stated at the time, “This is for those who stayed up crazy late last night talking with somebody they love about their size and skin...”

Their sound grew more contorted and restless on 2020’s ‘Ultra Mono’ and the Grammy-nominated 2021 album ‘CRAWLER,’ reflecting the chaos of the pandemic era. The latter scored them their first two Grammy nods and the #1 spot on the U.K. album chart, setting the stage for their most ambitious creative leap yet on ‘TANGK.’

To capture the new album’s

transcendently raw joy and ecstatic epiphanies, IDLES assembled a stacked production dream team - Nigel Godrich (Radiohead, The Smile, Beck), Kenny Beats (Denzel Curry, Vince Staples, Rico Nasty), and guitarist Mark Bowen. The contrasting perspectives allowed the band to explore wildly adventurous new soundscapes and textures without losing their trademark urgency.

“What Joe and I have realized as friends and co-songwriters is that we are almost the exact opposite person, in every way,” says Bowen. “There was a time we thought it was important to be of one mind, but we’re happier and better to become more different as we go.”

The eclectic production squad’s yin-and-yang chemisty makes for a sound that is “sprawling and focused, imaginative and immediate.” It runs the gamut from the kinetic, hardcore shrapnel of “POP POP POP” and “Hall And Oates” to the psychedelic blooming of “Grace” to the album-opening improv suite “IDEA 1,” which Bowen birthed from his initial loop sessions with Godrich.

At the core is Talbot’s instantly identifiable stream-of-consciousness vocal approach, capturing his instinctive reflections on embracing love as a path to self-actualization across these 11 tracks. But now it’s contextualized by a hard-won sense of perseverance that only comes through struggle and profound life changes like new fatherhood.

“If you give people everything on stage, they’ll give you everything back,” Talbot states about his habit of confronting audiences with candor and lucidity. “There’s no bullshit in our crowd...I’ve got more strength in me than I ever have, and it comes from love.”

That invigorated spirit extends to IDLES’ biggest live roadmap to date, surrounding the ‘TANGK’ album cycle. The massive 2024 North American tour includes two legs, kicking off on May 3rd in Vancouver and covering the U.S., Canada and Mexico through late October.

The first leg hits major markets across the western U.S. and Canada before a late summer break. The second

leg launches September 14th in Asheville, NC and finally wraps up with one of their biggest headlining shows to date in Mexico City that October. It’s an epic live takeover showcasing the latest defiant vision from a band who have progressed from visceral provocateurs to optimistic beacons of hardship-born solidarity and self-empowerment.

Where IDLES were once set on taking the world’s piss and exorcizing personal trauma in real time, they have arrived on ‘TANGK’ to offer the transcendent fruits of such perseverance and wisdom - love, joy, gratitude for existence itself in the face of the void. As Talbot howls repeatedly amid the album’s torrent of colossal hooks, “I’ve searched and felt the nature is love itself.”

With leadoff single “Dancer” already providing an ecstatic, bodymoving glimpse of their revelatory new sound of purgative joy, and an epic cross-continental live show on the horizon, IDLES are embracing their role as catalysts for spiritual renewal and freudenfreude (“joy on joy”) on the appropriately titled ‘TANGK.’ The album’s very name - a guttural twist on the word “tank” meant to evoke “lashing” guitar violence - has morphed into a sigil for the very idea of living fully in love itself.

It’s an unflinching rebuke to any societal force that attempts to “compress happiness until it is controllable.” In 2024, IDLES reaffirm their place in the lineage of iconoclasts who recast raw angst as supreme self-actualization. Because as their exhilarating latest so urgently reminds us - if we don’t look after ourselves and each other through love’s eternal miracle: “Who will?”

Black Veil Brides Announce “Bleeders” US Tour, Set to Perform at Warehouse Live

Fans of the gothic metalcore scene are in for a treat this month as Black Veil Brides have announced their highly anticipated “Bleeders” US tour. The Ohio-based rockers will be making a stop at Houston’s Warehouse Live Midtown on Tuesday, May 21st, with an impressive lineup of supporting acts, including Creeper, Dark Divine, and Ghostkid.

Black Veil Brides, known for their striking dark aesthetic and powerful blend of metalcore, shock rock, punk, and glam metal, have been captivating audiences since their formation in 2006. The band, currently consisting of Andy Biersack (vocals), Jinxx (rhythm guitar), Jake Pitts (lead guitar), Christian Coma (drums), and Lonny Eagleton (bass), will be touring in support of their 2021 album, “The Phantom Tomorrow.”

The band’s journey to stardom has been nothing short of impressive. Emerging from Cincinnati, Black Veil Brides quickly gained attention with their early EPs, “Sex & Hollywood” (2007) and “Never Give In” (2008).

After relocating to Los Angeles and solidifying their lineup, the group released their debut full-length album, “We Stitch These Wounds,” in 2010 on Standby Records.

Black Veil Brides continued to make waves in the alternative metal scene with their subsequent releases, including 2011’s “Set the World on Fire” and 2013’s ambitious rock opera, “Wretched and Divine: The Story of the Wild Ones.” The latter showcased the band’s ability to craft intricate narratives within their music, further cementing their status as one of the most innovative and exciting acts in the genre.

Throughout their career, Black Veil Brides have consistently pushed the boundaries of their sound and image. Their self-titled fourth album, released in 2014, debuted at number ten on the Billboard 200, a testament to their growing popularity and dedicated fan base. The band has also released a concert LP/film, “Alive and Burning,” and their fifth full-length, “Vale,” which served as a prequel to the story established in “Wretched and Divine.”

In recent years, Black Veil Brides have undergone some lineup changes, with bassist Ashley Purdy departing in 2019 and being replaced by Lonny Eagleton. Despite these changes, the band has remained focused on delivering powerful, emotionally charged music to their fans. In 2020, they released a rerecording of their debut album, “We Stitch These Wounds,” as well as the singles “Scarlet Cross” and “Fields of Bone,” which appeared on their sixth full-length effort, “Phantom Tomorrow,” released in October 2021.

Now, with the announcement of the “Bleeders” US tour, Black Veil Brides are set to bring their electrifying live performance to audiences across the country. The tour promises to be an unforgettable experience for fans, with the band’s signature blend of intense musicianship, theatrical stage presence, and powerful vocals from frontman Andy Biersack.

Supporting Black Veil Brides on this tour are three equally impressive acts. Creeper, a British punk rock band known for their dramatic, horrorinfluenced sound, will be bringing their unique brand of storytelling to the stage. Dark Divine, a rising star in the alternative metal scene, will showcase their heavy riffs and emotive vocals, while Ghostkid, a German metalcore act, will round out the lineup with their highenergy performance.

Fans in the Houston area won’t want to miss this incredible night of music at Warehouse Live Midtown on Tuesday, May 21st. Black Veil Brides, along with Creeper, Dark Divine, and Ghostkid, are sure to deliver a show that will be remembered for years to come. As the band continues to evolve and push the boundaries of their genre, this tour serves as a testament to their enduring popularity and the impact they have had on the alternative metal scene.

Tickets for the “Bleeders” US tour are on sale now, and fans are encouraged to secure their spots early, as these shows are expected to sell out quickly. Don’t miss your chance to witness Black Veil Brides and their supporting acts live in action, as they bring their unique blend of gothic aesthetics, powerful storytelling, and intense musicianship to stages across the country.

Vampire Weekend Performs At 713 Music Hall On June 6th

Vampire Weekend Announces Extensive 2024 North American Tour in Support of New Album ‘Only God Was Above Us’

Indie rock luminaries Vampire Weekend have thrilled fans with the announcement of their ambitious 2024 North American tour, set to kick off this spring. The extensive trek, which will see the band traverse the continent, comes on the heels of the release of their highly anticipated fifth studio album, ‘Only God Was Above Us,’ which hit shelves on April 5th.

In a tantalizing preview of what’s to come, Vampire Weekend has already unveiled two captivating tracks from the forthcoming record: ‘Capricorn’ and ‘Gen-X Cops.’ These songs have only served to heighten the excitement surrounding the album, which follows

the band’s critically acclaimed 2019 release, ‘Father Of The Bride.’ NME, in a glowing four-star review, praised ‘Father Of The Bride’ as a “key reinvention for the indie stalwarts, with a looseness and funkiness that proves, thankfully, they’ve not overthought the comeback.”

As details emerge about the creation of ‘Only God Was Above Us,’ it’s clear that Vampire Weekend has embarked on a global adventure to craft their latest musical offering. The band has confirmed that the album was recorded in various locations around the world, from the bustling streets of Manhattan to the sun-drenched landscapes of Los Angeles, and even venturing across the Atlantic to London and Tokyo. This international scope has undoubtedly influenced the sound and feel of the record, adding new layers of depth and complexity to their already

rich musical tapestry.

The album, which is said to be “inspired and haunted by 20th Century New York City,” has been primarily produced by the band’s visionary frontman, Ezra Koenig, in collaboration with longtime creative partner Ariel Rechtshaid, known for his work with artists such as Haim and Brandon Flowers. The bulk of the songwriting took place between 2019 and 2020, hinting at a reflective and introspective period for the band.

Vampire Weekend’s musical journey has been one of constant evolution and exploration. From their early days as music blog darlings to their current status as chart-topping indie icons, the band has consistently pushed the boundaries of their sound, incorpo-

rating a dizzying array of influences ranging from Afro-pop and ska to hiphop and ’80s pop. This eclectic mix has become a hallmark of their style, setting them apart from their contemporaries and solidifying their position as one of the most innovative and influential acts of the past two decades.

The band’s rise to prominence has been nothing short of remarkable. Their self-titled debut album, released in 2008, quickly garnered critical acclaim and a devoted fan base. However, it was their subsequent releases, 2010’s ‘Contra’ and 2013’s ‘Modern Vampires of the City,’ that truly catapulted them into the stratosphere. Both albums debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 chart, making Vampire Weekend the first indie group to achieve two consecutive number-one albums. ‘Modern Vampires of the City’ also earned the band their first Grammy Award, cementing their status as indie rock royalty.

In the years since, Vampire

Weekend has continued to evolve and experiment with their sound. ‘Father of the Bride,’ released in 2019, saw the band incorporating elements of jam-rock and psychedelic soul into their already expansive sonic palette. The album, which topped the charts and earned multiple Grammy nominations, showcased the band’s ability to tackle complex themes and emotions while maintaining their signature wit and charm.

Now, with ‘Only God Was Above Us,’ Vampire Weekend appears poised to take listeners on another thrilling musical journey. The album, described as a densely layered reflection on a bygone era of New York City, promises to be a nostalgic yet forward-thinking exploration of the band’s roots and influences.

As fans eagerly await the opportunity to experience the new material live, the anticipation for Vampire Weekend’s 2024 North American tour is reaching a fever pitch. With their reputation for electrifying performances and their knack for crafting setlists that seamlessly blend fan favorites with fresh cuts, the band’s upcoming shows are sure to be the hottest tickets in town.

The tour, which will see Vampire Weekend playing in venues across the

United States and Canada, is a testament to their enduring popularity and the deep connection they’ve forged with their audience over the years. From intimate club shows to sprawling festival stages, the band has consistently delivered unforgettable live experiences that have left fans clamoring for more.

As the music world prepares for the release of ‘Only God Was Above Us’ and the subsequent tour, it’s clear that Vampire Weekend remains at the forefront of the indie rock scene. Their ability to evolve and innovate while staying true to their core sound and sensibilities has made them one of the most enduring and beloved acts of their generation.

With the 2024 North American tour on the horizon and a new album that promises to be another milestone in their already impressive discography, Vampire Weekend stands poised to once again capture the hearts and minds of music lovers everywhere. As fans count down the days until they can experience the magic of the band’s live shows, one thing is certain: Vampire Weekend’s legacy as indie rock trailblazers is secure, and their future has never looked brighter.

Bob Schneider Performs At Dosey Doe Big Barn On May 25th

On Saturday, May 25th, the Dosey Doe Big Barn in The Woodlands, Texas, will play host to the multi-talented singer-songwriter Bob Schneider. Known for his eclectic musical style and engaging live performances, Schneider’s appearance at this intimate venue promises to be an unforgettable evening for fans of the Austin-based artist.

Born on October 12, 1965, in Michigan and partially raised in Germany, Bob Schneider’s journey to becoming a fixture in the Austin music scene has been a fascinating one. His early musical endeavors included fronting the funk and rap outfit Joe Rockhead, which released three independent albums before disbanding just prior to signing with a major label. Schneider

then moved on to the Ugly Americans, a jammy rock band that found success opening for the Dave Matthews Band.

In 1997, Schneider co-founded the Scabs, further cementing his reputation as a dynamic and charismatic frontman. However, it was his transition to a solo career in 1999 that truly allowed his unique musical vision to flourish. Initially performing under the name Lonelyland, Schneider’s solo work showcased his ability to blend traditional singer-songwriter elements with funk, country, rock, and folk influences.

Schneider’s major-label debut, “Lonelyland,” was released in 2001 through Universal Records. The album showcased his distinctive musical approach, which drew comparisons to ’70s icons like Neil Young and Paul

Simon, while also incorporating a modern sensibility reminiscent of artists like Beck. Schneider’s lyrics, often touching on themes of alienation, drug addiction, and lost romance, added depth and edge to his compositions.

Following the release of “I’m Good Now” in 2004, Schneider parted ways with Universal and signed with Vanguard Records. During this period, he continued to release albums through his own label, Shockorama Records, which were later re-released by Vanguard. Notable works from this era include “The Californian” (2006), “When the Sun Breaks Down on the Moon” (2007), and “Lovely Creatures” (2009).

“Lovely Creatures,” released through Kirtland Records, featured the single “40 Dogs (Like Romeo and Juliet)” and a collaboration with Patty Griffin on the track “Changing Your Mind.” The album peaked at #14 on the AAA Radio Chart, further expanding Schneider’s audience. He followed this success with “A Perfect Day” in 2011 and “Burden of Proof” in 2013, both released through Kirtland Records.

In 2015, Schneider returned to his independent roots with “King Kong,” a project funded through a PledgeMusic crowdsourcing campaign and released on his own Shockorama label. This marked the beginning of a new phase in his career, one that saw him increasingly embrace direct fan engagement and unconventional release strategies.

Schneider began categorizing his ongoing songwriting creations and demos under yearly album labels, with many of these songs finding unofficial releases through various internet platforms. In 2017, he formalized this process by making his extensive backlog of recorded demos available to fans through Patreon. Subsequent albums, including “Blood and Bones” (2018), “In A Roomful Of Blood With A Sleeping Tiger” (2021), and “The Human Torch” (2023), were all gifted to Patreon backers prior to their official release.

2023 also saw the release of “FAYM,” a crowd-funded graphic novel with illustrations by Justin Barker, based on Schneider’s long-time rock opera project of the same name. This multimedia endeavor highlights the artist’s creative versatility and willingness to explore new avenues of expression.

As Bob Schneider takes the stage at the Dosey Doe Big Barn on May 25th, fans can expect a captivating performance that draws from his vast catalog of original material. Known for his improvisational skills and ability to

engage with his audience, Schneider’s live shows are a testament to his enduring passion for music and his commitment to creating a unique experience for his fans.

The intimate setting of the Dosey Doe Big Barn, a beautifully restored barn-turned-music venue, provides the perfect backdrop for Schneider’s stripped-down, acoustic-driven performances. The venue’s excellent acoustics and up-close seating will allow fans to fully immerse themselves in the artist’s heartfelt lyrics and dynamic stage presence.

With over two decades of experience and more than 20 studio albums and EPs to his name, Bob Schneider’s appearance at the Dosey Doe Big Barn is a rare opportunity for fans to witness a

true Texas music legend in a uniquely personal setting. As he continues to push the boundaries of his craft and explore new ways to connect with his audience, Schneider’s enduring legacy as one of Austin’s most beloved and innovative singer-songwriters only grows stronger.

Don’t miss your chance to experience Bob Schneider’s captivating live performance at the Dosey Doe Big Barn on Saturday, May 25th. This promises to be an evening filled with heartfelt music, laughter, and an unforgettable connection between artist and audience – a testament to the enduring power of great songwriting and the magic of live music.

The Biker, The Blues & No Vacation From The Blues

“I went from Birmingham all the way to Boulder but when I looked over my shoulder all I could see was your sweet face shining through and no matter how hard I try to fight off this urge to cry it seems there ain’t no vacation from the blues” - Travis Tritt. There are many reasons why folks cut out and travel for miles and miles and miles months at a time. I should know I’ve been out here since the urge hit me and what I didn’t envision was the many situations I would learn about. Women who became exotic dancers, men that became bouncers only to become a Dad with the gal they met while working at the bar, the illegal immigrants who see America as their last hope, the house wife who chucked it all, family, friends and husband to find something that was alive in her heart yet undefinable even as she walked out the door. Travis Tritt got it right there ain’t no vacation from the blues. The very odd thing about it is that when you are one of those people and you are meeting new people all time in your travels you also meet those that are quite happy. You feel good for them, you are shy about saying why you are passing through but there is this sweet sadness that goes with seeing those situations. For some there is this hole in their heart that is not filled in for one reason or another, they just didn’t click in their otherwise safe and serene environment. The chucked it in search of peace of mind. Bad Company expresses a desire for love and finding the blues this way, “I don’t ask no favors, I don’t know the reason why. If I don’t ask no questions I, I don’t get no lies, I don’t get no lies.” So many artists, so many bands, have turned out gut wrenching true to life lyrics that are totally relatable. When I am on the road and drop in to some bar along the way I normally hit the jukebox. When I punch up a blues number you can feel the atmosphere in the place change, they relate. You see people staring into their drinks, looking at themselves in the mirror, lighting up a cigarette and exhaling in strong way. The waitress in her daisy dukes wiping tables and taking orders and you wonder what is running through their minds. So

many people with many different reasons to have either left a situation behind or they in deep thought about having made a wrong choice and are miserable still living their choice. Some are trapped, many due to the duty they feel to their kids or some other important reason to them like maybe even probation or parole. It’s hard for this writer to imagine any blues songwriter to put out a relatable song if they haven’t experienced the topic they present. The great reset comes about due to letting go, moving on. This lifestyle isn’t right for everybody but trust me there is horde of people that stopped being a round peg who were trying to fit into a square hole. If I am lying I am dying. I met a gal working behind the bar in Northwestern Pennsylvania in a rather remote part of the county. She was quiet but when I gave her a five dollar bill and asked her to liven the place up she punched up Aerosmith’s “Walk This Way” and the place did indeed come alive. The song is about being set free and enjoying every minute of it. At another pub in Southern Texas this good looking blonde gal was behind the bar. I gave her a five dollar bill and asked her to liven the place up. Her

The Biker, The Blues & No Vacation From The Blues - cont’d

choices were as sultry but not as rock based as she chose Paula Cole’s “Feelin’ Love”. Both songs revved up the bars. Some places are more Allman Brothers oriented with getting away songs like “Midnight Rider”. Completely different theme but it’s the blues just the same. I remember being in a corner dive that was the epitome of what you would think a dive bar would attract but it’s soul was quite evident. These people had set themselves free, some may have paid a dear price. Waylon Jennings used to sing a song titled “Low Down Freedom”. In one verse he sings “Like them big wheels I’ll be rollin’ like them rivers gonna flow to sea cause I would rather leave her knowin’ that I’d made a fool of love before it made a fool of me.” Take the soulful bluesman Bert Wills out of Southeastern Texas. He sings a song titled “Slow Blues Lullaby”. It’s about late in the evening when the clubs are shutting down and he paints a vivid picture of what’s going down. The song grabs anyone that has ever been there, done that kind of thing. Tom Waits paints the “Heart of Saturday Night”. Just like Bert he paints a relatable bluesy late night experience. Then again sometimes it isn’t even the night life nor is it a bar. You meet everyday people cashing in on nomadic lifestyles.

Long haul truckers are that way, they just got to keep movin’ is the way they see it. Then there are those that never leave their home. They remain in their communities but yet they go to juke joints and theaters alike taking in their favorite blues style. Sometimes however they get away for a weekend and then it’s all they can do to pack up and return home. They do it because they are dedicated to someone but yet that tug to find the wind and let their sails unfurl is almost always present. I am writing this in mid April making my way to the annual Blues Music Awards in Memphis. If you’ve never experienced the BMAs well there’s nothing like the experience. The event is sort of like the Grammys with awards to those that made their mark in 2023. Way cool. Picture itBeale Street and all it’s clubs and literally thousands of people. All of which are dyed in the wool blues fans and if you could relate you would be as close to heaven as free people can get.

This early success marked the beginning of Leo Dan’s meteoric rise to stardom.

He released numerous

chart-topping albums, such as Como Poder Saber Si Te Amo, Siempre Estoy Pensando en Ella, and El Amor y la Felicidad.
