THE UNMATCHED APPEAL OF TEXAS BULLS

Texas HANDYMAN R448, a remarkable five-year-old herd bull that was sold back in 2022 for $10,000, was the talk of the World Angus Forum EXPO. This 1,250 kg, 100% grassfed bull was pulled directly from a commercial client’s paddock after three solid years of breeding cows and heifers. He was placed in a confined pen with no prep, no pampering - just a raw example of what our breeding can deliver in realworld conditions and we certainly were not prepared for the interest he created for those 2 days he was on display.

We’re thrilled to have been the only stud to feature a 5-year-old herd bull among the 500 registered Angus on display at the World Angus Forum Expo . R448 truly captivated visitors with his impressive qualities - from his sheer capacity and length of body to his captivating appearance and incredible weight of 1,250kgs straight off grass. What’s more, his near perfect feet and structural correctness have left everyone in awe.

PRESHO’S SUCCESS WITH TEXAS PROGENY HUGE INTEREST? TAROOM QLD WHY THE

But that’s not all! Visitors were also drawn to the commercial relevance of R448 being presented off grass, still fit, sound, and ready for the next joining. This is especially significant considering that the average life of an Australian Angus bull is now only 4-5 years. It’s no wonder why there was such a huge interest in our showcase!

The Preshos had an outstanding day in the ring, showcasing their expertise and dedication.

From claiming the Champion Grassfed Pen to securing the Champion & Reserve Champion Female titles, and finally clinching the coveted Supreme Exhibit with a 20-month-old heifer, their accomplishments are truly impressive. Their entries stood out among a strong field of 270 head, competing across grassfed, grainfed, and store classes.

What’s even more remarkable is that all of the Presho’s Angus-cross cattle were sired by Texas Angus bulls, demonstrating the incredible performance and consistency of those genetics in a commercial competition. Judge Beau Surawski’s praise for the Supreme Exhibit speaks volumes about the quality of the Preshos’ cattle.

It’s evident that their success at the Taroom Show is a testament to the exceptional breeding and hard work that goes into their cattle. Congratulations to Wes and Sue Presho for their well-deserved success. Their achievements at the Taroom Show are a true reflection of their dedication and passion for producing top-quality cattle. It’s clear that their winning streak at Taroom is a sign that they can excel anywhere.

IN THE 2024 RNA PADDOCK TO PALATE

Wow, what an exciting experience it was to have our own kids outshine us at last year’s RNA Paddock to Palate competition! Their Texas steers truly stole the show, surpassing not only our own performance but also that of every other exhibitor in the carcase section. It’s worth noting that the kids’ steers were sired by Texas ICEMAN and Texas ROOSTER, both MAVERICK sons, all noted for being proven carcase sires.

It’s even more impressive considering that Class 40 is the most competitive category in the competition, with a whopping 252 steers entered. We were thrilled to have two pens, including the kids’ pen, with the HIGHEST MARBLING in the entire competition!

Our achievements in the RNA Paddock to Palate competition are definitely something to celebrate. In the Class 40 - 100 Day Export (HGP Free) category, we secured some impressive accolades:

• 1st place in Pen of 6 Carcass Class 40

• 2nd place in Overall Pen Class 40

• 2nd place in MSA Eating Quality Class 40

• 3rd place in Overall Pen Class 40

• 3rd place in Highest Average Daily Weight Gain Class 40

This success is particularly meaningful as it marks our fourth year competing in the prestigious RNA Paddock to Palate. It’s exciting to see our steers consistently excel at this event, having placed second for 3 years and performing exceptionally well at both the RAS BEEF CHALLENGE & BEEF AUSTRALIA. This not only boosts our confidence in our breeding program but also allows us to benchmark against some of the best in the beef industry and incorporate this valuable data into our breeding program. We’re already looking forward to the next competition and the opportunity to continue showcasing our achievements.

INSIGHTS FROM TIM CLAY

DUNMORE PASTORAL

“We buy Texas bulls because they are bred under commercial conditions, they show hardiness and longevity in our environment as well as having balanced EVB’s in the traits we are looking for. Also, the marketability of the progeny, particularly the selling of our surplus heifers has been a significant benefit with buyers willing to pay a premium for those future breeders. In the last 2 years these heifers have topped the market for their category in that particular week on Auctions + and a significant portion of this is what the TEX brand brings to their breeding and the buyer attitude towards the brand.” Tim Clay, Dunmore Pastoral.

LOT OF THE 1 INTRODUCING Pick PEN

U302 is a high-class Texas heifer and easily ranks among the elite of our Spring U-drop. She’s a deep-bodied, feminine female who carries herself with presence and style - true front paddock material. Displaying the hallmark fleshing and thickness of Poss MAVERICK, U302 brings power without sacrificing femininity. Her pedigree is rich in highperformance genetics, underpinned by a maternal lineage that traces all the way back to 1936 - offering both modern performance and timeless maternal strength. She represents an incredible breeding opportunity and is currently carrying a sexed bull calf by the $960,000AUD sire Basin JAMESON, due in July. JAMESON’s progeny is already making waves across North America - three daughters at Spruce Mountain recently averaged an astounding $250,950AUD, and he now stands as ABS’s lead AI bull. This is a rare elite package.

If you’re after a quiet-natured heifer with serious performance, Texas USHERETTE U388 is as good as it gets. She’s as quiet as they come, yet built like a tank - boasting exceptional thickness while still carrying that all-important femininity. A true crowd favourite. U388 is a paternal sister to Australia’s highest priced bull, Texas THUNDERSTRUCK, and carries the proven genetics of her dam, Texas USHETTTE K125 - a big-bodied, super maternal REPLAY daughter who has never missed a calf, even through the harshest drought on record. K125 has sold sons to $34,000 and currently averages an impressive $17,250. At 11 years old, she’s been AI’d annually and is now due to drop her 10th AI calf—a testament to her fertility and longevity. U388 has been strategically joined to a big, long, heavy-boned PHEASANTRY son, a mating that’s set to deliver an exceptional calf packed with performance and EBVs to die for.

Texas U313 is a sleek, clean-fronted GAR HERO daughter with a pedigree of the very best of Texas genetics. She’s the kind of female that stands out - stylish, feminine, and backed by generations of proven performance. Her maternal lineage is nothing short of iconic. Her great grand dam, Texas UNDINE L635, recently sold for $30,000 for donor duties has produced one of the lead bulls in this year’s sale. Her bloodlines trace back to the legendary Texas UNDINE Z183, who has single-handedly sold over $1,000,000 worth of bulls - a true matriarch of the breed. Sired by the high-growth, heavy-carcase bull GAR HERO, U313 has been strategically joined to Texas U-BEAUTY, the standout sire who fetched $55,000 at the 2024 Bull Sale. This elite mating will produce a sexed heifer calf, combining the power of performance genetics with show-stopping phenotype - a rare opportunity for those chasing the future of the breed.
