Halings Hillside Hat Trick No April Fools Joke Courtesy of Tamworth Regional Livestock Exchange TRLX
Tony & Tania Haling, Hillside Park, Woolbrook have taken out the Virbac Weaner Challenge for the third year running with their outstanding run of calves sold through IML at TRLX on 1st April. Champion pen (photo insert) went to their Angus steers by Texas Angus and another central Angus Stud out of big frame Riverina bred cows. The Reserve Champion pen went to Pine Hill for their 8-9 month old Simmental steer calves sold through B&S. The Haling family also scooped the pool with their Charolais x Angus heifers winning first place and their Angus heifers runner up. Tony Haling says that the prices this year were significantly up on last year, despite probably being the lightest calves of all the three years (due to seasonal conditions) they’ve won the title. Their top steers made $1110, compared to $905 in 2015, and their top heifers made $940, compared to $800 in 2015. Judge, Rob McCarthy once again credited vendors of the presentation of the 4000 weaners as an outstanding job in a season where we had “5 minutes of good and the rest no good..” We congratulate The Halings for their incredible result particularly when they were up against 4000 weaners! Texas Angus was happy to donate 2 registered heifers to the Warialda Public School P & C Livestock Drive. The P & C held a fundraising event to conduct a technological upgrade to their school hall. Local farming families found a spare animal in their paddock to sell with another family providing the truck and the local agent offering to sell them commission free. To date the fundraiser has raised just under $10,000! WP School leaders including Abby Kent, Lucy Lockyer, Charlie Horn, Will Mayne and Jack Digby with Ian Durkin, Ben Mayne, Dan van Velthuizen and Scott Biddle
2016 Sale Bulls - Scoring Highest Marbling Ever
The bulls this year are possibly the most even, heavy fleshing, soft, docile bulls we’ve ever presented. The scanning results of them have been phenomenal. We’ve never before scanned bulls over 7.4 for marbling and heifers scanning over 8 at such a young age! It’s not surprising as the brothers of these bulls scored the highest marbling scores of the RAS Beef Challenge competition of over 450 entries and achieved the best weight gain performance of all breeds and crosses. Breeding purebred cattle that can out do Crossbreds with hybrid vigour for daily weight gain combined with high marbling is exactly what we have been breeding for and we are now recognised for it at this prestigious Sydney Royal Feedlot and Carcase Trial. Not many studs can say they have steers marble 7 on only 100 days feed, many have said they marble 7 or 8 on 270 days feed!! We have once again a huge line of proven calving ease bulls including 17 GPS sons, 18 Reality, 9 outstanding powerhouse sons of Total x Z183 (half brothers to the $45,000 K2), 15 450 sons, 11 Earnan sons, 10 Texas Global sons, 4 sons of the very popular E10, with Edmund, Berkley, Hallam and a very eye catching Guaranteed son. Also we have a great selection of 18 months including sons of the Western Australian record breaking Coonamble Stud, Coonamble Handyman H268 (AI) (ET), whose dam is the famous Bangadang Lowan A61(AI)(ET). Ben has travelled the globe looking for the next sires to compliment our breeding program which has seen him recently fly to America, WA, SA, VIC and NSW. We place great importance on the sires we use and make a point of seeing them and their progeny in the flesh to know exactly how consistent they will breed for our program and most importantly the flow through effects onto our clients herds. The search is endless but he is happy to do it. The above graph illustrates the average ebvs of our sale bulls compared to the rest of the Angus breed and shows the bulls have plenty of growth, carcase, early gestation, fertility and extra dollars in your back pocket when you sell their progeny.
