The ReCharged Man

By Tom Grove

While much has changed over the past four years, the mission of Men’s Ministries | English has not. Our driving force is to help every man of the Texas Conference become the man God has called him to be.

In the book Education, these words of Ellen G. White inspire us: “The greatest want of the world is the want of men—men who will not be bought or sold, men who in their inmost souls are true and honest, men who do not fear to call sin by its right name, men whose conscience is as true to duty as the needle to the pole, men who will stand for the right though the heavens fall.”

As we reflect on the past and plan for the next four years, we continue to challenge the men in the Texas Conference to participate in events created just for them.

Men’s Ministries | English collaborated with and supported the Southwestern Union Conference Men’s Retreat at Lakeview Camp and Retreat Center, held May 2019 in Waxahachie, Tex. Over 1,000 men around the Southwestern Union found the weekend event a time of spiritual renewal, fellowship and prayer. Attendees were blessed to hear from Minner Labrador, John Nixon, Bill Kilgore and special guest Ken Bevel, an actor from the film Courageous.

In November 2019, Men’s Ministries | English held a conference-wide rally at the Houston Central Seventh-day Adventist Church with the theme “Unbroken.” More than 800 men came to hear uplifting music, practical seminars and inspiring sermons from Doug Batchelor, Whitley Phipps and Eddie Hypolite.

Beginning in 2020, events shifted online because of the pandemic. Every Tuesday at 5:20 a.m., men joined a Zoom meeting to pray. A Virtual Week of Prayer summit in November 2021 featured presentations from Mike Tucker, Tony Anobile, Sr., Randy Roberts, Elton DeMoraes, John Bradshaw and others.

In 2022, there was a leadership transition as Tom Grove succeeded Sean Harris. Men’s Ministries | English grew under the leadership of Harris, and we continue to build on the foundation his leadership laid.

In 2023, we finally returned to inperson events. ReCharge events, held in the first half of this year in the various regions of the Texas Conference, encouraged men to recharge their spirituality after a challenging couple of years. These events were designed to equip local leaders to grow vibrant Men’s Ministries in local churches.

We are excited to see what God has in store for Men’s Ministries | English in this next quadrennium.
