Marae Gatherings
at Alert Level 2
We have been effected somehow when it comes to gathering at marae during alert level 3 and level 4 lockdown. Restriction measures at these alert levels meant we were not able to carry out tikana like we would like too, we are not able to awhi te whānau pani through loss and not be able to show our aroha by practicing our way of manaaki – how we care for each other.
At alert level 2, some restrictions have been eased and some marae may choose to reopen. If your marae is operational at level 2, there are still guidelines that the Ministry of Health and Kāwanatana are asking us to observe and practice.
Practicing Tanihana at Alert Level 2
The restrictions in place at Alert Level 2: • Gatherings of up to 50 people (indoor) and 100 people (outdoors) are permitted. These limits exclude whānau responsible for carrying out tikana practices. • Marae must have record keeping of: exact day and time of every ope full names of all manuhiri every manuhiri's current physical address, email address and mobile phone number. The restrictions in place at Alert Level 2: • The 50 person limit is for each ope, but you can have multiple ope throughout the duration of the tani. If you have one group of 10 and another of 40 arrive at the gate, these groups would be able to join to make one group of the 50 person max. • You should keep the length of the time for each ope to 2 hours. (This means from the time the ope is called on through to leaving the wharekai). • Transporting tūpāpaku between regions at the same alert level is permitted.
The restrictions in place at Alert Level 2: • When the time comes, whānai your manuhiri in the wharekai. Here are the guidelines: 1. Only 10 people per table. 2. No buffet service. 3. Single serve/plated kai only. 4. No alcohol to be served. 5. All surfaces to be cleaned in between each ope.
The restrictions in place at Alert Level 2: • When the tūpāpaku leaves the marae the limit on people applies, so only those at the marae should visit the urupā and hakaari. • Marae will need a health and safety plan that details the guidelines of alert level 2. • Marae will need a hygiene and infection plan. This will mean things like having a good cleaning regime for constantly touched surfaces, making sure hand washing stations are readily available and everyone is taking responsibility for this.
