What is the 4-day working week about?

From Janurary to March 2021 a trial was undertaken at Te Uru Taumatua to test a “4-day working week”.

The trial tested if we could produce clear positives in a 4-day working week by asking ourselves if can we be better and faster.

The trial proved that we are better disciplined when we are given a shorter amount of time to work. It showed us that being happier and refreshed increased our ability to deliver in a way that saved Iwi resources and costs.

Why did we trial it?

Rūātoki and Waimana Bush Crews “He rawe te 4 rā mō nā hōiho” • The Waimana and Rūātoki bush crews took part in the trial.

• The Rūātoki bush crew said “the 4-day working week is good, as it gives the horses more time to recover and the team more time to be with their families”.

• They will continue to work 37.5 hours but now over 4 days, Monday – Thursday.

• Manawaru Tribal are developing a bush crew in their mārua.

Waikaremoana Operations & Te Tii, Ruataahuna • Currently, the 4-day working week doesn’t apply to the Waikaremoana operations and Te Tii, Ruataahuna teams.

• A separate trial for these teams will run to determine their viability. The learnings form the Te Uru Taumatua, Tāneatua trial will be used to approach this.
