CELEBRATE 50 YEARS WITH TETON SCIENCE SCHOOLS It began with an idea in 1967. In 50 years, Teton Science Schools has become a leader in place-based education while sharing the beauty of Jackson Hole with nearly 15,000 participants annually from nearly all 50 states.

Our summer catalog offers camps with a progression of experiences for all ages.

Toddlers and young elementary students enjoy exploration, art and play in age appropriate settings. Elementary and middle school students gain a deeper understanding of Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks through science and adventures, including camping and leadership activities. High school camps mirror the original program, still compelling today through place-based study and exploration, culminating with a backpack trip to the crest of the Teton Range.

Teton Valley Community School Camps

Two–Five Years Old The world is a magical and curious place when you’re young. Children from two to five can explore the world around them in a fun, caring and age appropriate environment. Days will be spent creating art, digging in the garden, interacting with our farm animals and exploring nature near and far. All summer, toddlers and preschoolers will play, learn and make friends along the way!

Teton Valley Community School Camps

Entering Kindergarten–Grade 5 Experience art, nature and gardening during these camps. Aspiring artists will learn about different kinds of art. Explorers will investigate the animals that live on the land and in the waters of Teton Valley.

In conjunction with Full Circle Education, young gardeners will care for local farm animals and gardens and create locally grown products.

Pre-Kindergarten & Kindergarten | 3 Years Old –Entering Kindergarten In harmony with Reggio Emilia and nature-based practices, Journeys School Pre-Kindergarten faculty will lead these programs for 3–5 year olds. Children will engage in their natural surroundings through exploration and play following weekly themes. Children will explore different art mediums to complement their experiences and promote creativity.

Journeys School

Elementary School | You already have the tools to be an explorer! With our elementary programs, students will follow their senses and their curiosity on adventures through the wildlands of Jackson Hole. See the world in a new way, exploring with magnifying lenses, binoculars, paintbrushes and field guides.

Teton Teen Leadership Entering Grades 6—9 “Ready to climb? Climb on!” During this program you’ll focus on identifying your personal leadership style, practicing group problem solving and decision making while putting your teamwork skills to the test on the Doug Walker Challenge Course. We’ll begin on the low elements of the challenge course then advance to the high elements. Mid-week we will hike in Grand Teton National Park.

Ultimate Grand Teton Adventure Entering Grades 7—9 Hike, backpack and explore the mysteries of Grand Teton National Park! Head for the mountains and use the powers of field science to shine a light on the mysteries of nature during an epic journey into the wilderness surrounding Jackson Hole. Includes five nights at Teton Science Schools’ Jackson Campus and four nights of backcountry camping.

Teton Explorations Entering Grades 7—9 Join students from across the country in an exciting exploration of Grand Teton National Park. Women Only Leadership, Volunteering, Exploration, and Science (WOLVES) Entering Grades 7—9 Join the wolf pack for a girl-powered adventure through the heart of Wyoming’s wilderness.

Elevate your experience on our Doug Walker Challenge Course, canoe glacially-formed lakes, solve mysteries with science and make a difference through service projects. Discover your strengths on an all-girl backpacking expedition into the rugged terrain surrounding Jackson Hole. Explore this place with peers and local artists by hiking, canoeing and backpacking. Use these awe-inspiring backdrops to build your own artistic capacity. Jackson Hole Science Expeditions Entering Grades 11–12+ Celebrate the 50th anniversary with the program that started Teton Science Schools in 1967! Immerse yourself in the study of the natural sciences in one of the most beautiful and ecologically complex wilderness areas in North America.

Alongside knowledgeable instructors you will sharpen your analytical thinking and scientific skills then conduct fieldresearch projects through hands-on exploration of Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks. Your experience culminates with a backpacking trip to the crest of the Teton mountain range. The program is based at the Kelly Campus of Teton Science Schools, in Grand Teton National Park with five nights frontcountry camping in Yellowstone, and five nights in the backcountry. High school credit is available.

TEACHER LEARNING CENTER: SCHOOL-BASED PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT “Connecting Schools and Communities” The Teacher Learning Center of Teton Science Schools offers professional development programs for both public and private schools that are effective, relevant and focused. We approach professional development with one central idea–that if we are teaching about engagement and excellence in schools, then our professional development offerings must also be engaging and excellent. These programs can be customized to be at your school or at one of Teton Science Schools’ campuses.

Connecting Classroom & Field-based Learning Experiences with Teton Science Schools This workshop is designed for teachers who bring–or want to bring–their students to Teton Science Schools for Field Education programs. It will focus on how to integrate a Teton Science Schools’ Field Education experience into your school year. Learn how to use Next Generation Science Standards to prepare students for the trip to improve their engagement and learning.

During the workshop you will gain experience with place-based education principles; develop pre- and post-trip activity plans and enjoy Jackson Hole with the group.

THE MURIE RANCH Located in Grand Teton National Park, The Murie Ranch was home to the conservationminded Murie Family (Olaus, Mardy, Adolph and Louise) beginning in 1945. Today the Murie Legacy is presented in daily tours of The Murie Ranch throughout the summer and fall. Residential programs highlight the Murie’s work through community outreach, special events and preservation of the historical Murie archive, library and natural history collection.

Henry H. Holdsworth Photography Workshop Learn to capture the beauty of Grand Teton National Park with nationally renowned photographer Henry H. Holdsworth. Spend four days learning to master light, composition and balance through landscape and wildlife photography with one of the leading professional photographers in Jackson Hole.

NATIONAL MILITARY FAMILY ASSOCIATION Teton Science Schools (TSS) is proud to partner with the National Military Family Association (NMFA) to provide programs for military families, in honor of the sacrifices military members and their families make for our country. Through this partnership, more than 1,200 military service members and their families have visited TSS, to reconnect and spend quality time together after deployment. In 2017, Teton Science Schools will offer Operation Purple © Family Retreats in February and July.
