"Energizing" is the perfect word to describe the start of the 2025-26 school year. The momentum is palpable, and we have so much to celebrate.
Campus is buzzing with 469 students, a notable increase of 21 from last year. We're proud to welcome students from 28 different zip codes, spanning from Vero Beach to Titusville. It’s also wonderful to see that 71.3% of our students attended one of our Brevard County Catholic partner schools.
Our students continue to achieve incredible things, both inside and outside the classroom.
• Academic Excellence: Last year's Advanced Placement (AP) results were outstanding. We had 22 students named AP Scholars with Distinction, 10 earned AP Scholars with Honors, and 28 earned AP Scholar status. These results are a testament to our students' hard work and our exceptional faculty.
• Service: The Class of 2025 demonstrated their commitment to others by completing over 12,500 hours of community service, an inspiring reflection of our school's mission and our Franciscan charism.
• Athletics: Our Hustlers upheld a long tradition of success! Both our Football and Softball teams captured their second consecutive district championships. In track, Justin Woulard '25 dominated, winning the state championship in the long jump and the 100- and 200-meter dash. He and his teammates Noah Flores '27, Brogan McNab '26, Howard Dewitt '27, and Diedrich Smith '26 (alt.) also took second in the 4x100 relay.
• Planning: Work is underway to achieve the goals of our recently completed Strategic Plan. Look for updates as we move through the year.
• Alumni: The Class of 1973 started our first class scholarship program honoring members of the class who have passed away. Kayla Mino ’29 is our first recipient of the $1,973 scholarship. Check out the picture and details on page 27.
• Philanthropy: Your support fuels everything we do. Last year, the MCC family invested a total of $509,990, including a generous $107,536 for our endowment. Thank you for lighting the way for our students. You can find more details in the Annual Report of Investors that starts on page 25.
Speaking of Connect, this issue is filled with stories that celebrate the lasting impact of MCC and link the experiences of the past with the community we continue to build today. Inside, you’ll find features on two graduates, coach and faculty member spotlights, details about our upcoming Alumni Memorial Mass, and much more.
St. Francis of Assisi said, "All the darkness in the world cannot extinguish the light of a single candle." Thank you for being a part of our MCC family, for being that light, and for helping us shine so brightly.
Go Hustlers!

Nick Regina President

An integral part of the Brevard County community, we embrace our mission to educate our students academically, spiritually, and socially, preparing them well for college and beyond.
We congratulate our members of the Class of 2025, each of whom will continue his or her education at colleges and universities both in and out of Florida.
Their work in the classroom, in community service, or on the athletic field is a testament to the value they place on the Franciscan Virtues –Generosity, Humility, Inclusivity, and Integrity – we hold so close.

Carrying forward a proud tradition, our legacy graduates represent the strength of family, history, and shared values. As they walk the same halls as their parents, grandparents, or siblings once did, they honor the past while stepping boldly into their own futures. Their achievements are a testament to the enduring spirit of our school community—where legacy isn't just remembered, it's lived.

grew up in Indialantic, Florida with her twin and younger sister. Her relationship with Jesus developed during her time at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic School and through the Life Teen program offered at the Parish. Service, particularly in Church and with youth, has always been a source of joy for her and she often found herself helping in various ministries. Anna later served as a missionary with Life Teen, continuing her formation. It was a summer during high school that she first felt the Lord invite her to be a bride of Christ as a religious sister, but it would not be until after college that He would show her the Community that would be her home. She attended both Ave Maria University and the University of Florida, and it was at the UF that she met the Mercedarian Sisters. After a year of teaching and further discernment, Anna has now entered Postulancy to more closely unite her will to His will by deepening her love and knowledge of Jesus.
I fell in love! Every vocation is a call of total self-gift for the sake of the love of another. I have felt invited by Jesus to love Him with an undivided heart and His children as my own.
I find joy in the call and return to prayer throughout the day. Whether I am praising Him with my Sisters, interceding for the needs of His children and the Church, or listening to His voice in the quiet of my time in Lectio Divina and Adoration, being in constant dialogue with Jesus brings me life and peace.
I am inspired by my new Sisters in community. The older Sisters are a witness to persevering and faithful love of Jesus for me; the younger Sisters show me the excitement and adventure of beginning religious life. Both reveal to me that saying yes to Jesus is a joy and a risk of love worth taking.
Pray! You are ultimately "dating" Jesus and if you don't talk to Him in prayer you won't know the person you are marrying. I would include the sacraments here too; Mass (more than just Sunday if possible) and Confession are so important. Also, don't be afraid to ask for help in your discernment; I found that having a good spiritual director was particularly helpful in navigating the different movements of my heart and experiences in prayer. Basically, pray and have a mentor to help you as you face different questions and grow in love with Jesus!
I've been privileged to serve students in Baton Rouge through monthly prayer and reflection with elementary and middle schoolers during Eucharistic adoration, as well as by attending the March for Life Pilgrimage with our high schoolers. These experiences have deeply expanded my heart to love God’s children as my own.
A particular joy has been carrying others’ intentions in prayer. Our community’s spirituality focuses on freeing those in captivity—once done physically by our founders, now done spiritually through prayer and the Eucharist. Through the Liturgy of the Hours, daily Mass, and personal adoration, we lift up the needs of all who entrust their hearts to us. It's a sacred privilege to pray with and for them!

I work at Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. When children come into the ER after accidents or emergencies, doctors and nurses focus on treating their physical injuries. My role is to care for something less visible—the fear, shock, and heartbreak that children and their families often experience in those moments.
No two days are the same. Some are filled with hope and healing. Others are marked by deep loss. But every day, I remind families they are not alone— because in the midst of trauma, sometimes the most powerful medicine is human connection.
After MCC, I realized I wanted a career that combined helping people with real-world problem solving. I pursued social work in college, earned my master’s degree, and trained in hospital settings. Over time, I discovered my passion in the pediatric ER, where I can make a meaningful difference during life-changing moments.
" My role is to care for something less visible—the fear, shock, and heartbreak that children and their families often experience in those moments."
I’ve always been drawn to helping people during difficult times. Experiencing the power of support—whether through listening, guiding, or simply being present—led me to pursue social work. In the ER, I have the opportunity to bring calm and compassion when families need it most. My inspiration began during visits to the rehab center across the street from MCC, where I spent time volunteering. That experience showed me I wanted to dedicate my life to a helping profession.
Don’t be afraid to try, fail, and try again. The path won’t be straight, but every experience teaches you something. Trust that the things you care about most—helping people, making a difference—will lead you to where you’re supposed to be.
Community, compassion, and resilience—these are the values MCC instilled in me. The lessons I learned there about caring for others and staying true to your values are the backbone of my work every day in the trauma center. As I approach 25 years of service at Arnold Palmer Hospital, my passion for both my field and this incredible organization continues to grow. I truly can’t imagine working anywhere else.
As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I:

* Provide comfort to children and parents during frightening medical crises
* Help families understand what's happening and what to expect
* Intervene when there are safety concerns, such as abuse or mental health risks
* Connect families with resources and support after discharge
* Walk alongside grieving parents when the unthinkable happens

I originally pursued a very different career. After graduating from law school with my wife in 2008, I worked as a law clerk and practicing attorney in Connecticut. Shortly after we returned to Florida, my oldest son was diagnosed with autism and was having challenges in preschool. I decided to look for a job with fewer hours so I could be more present at home. Around that time, a good friend of mine — now our Dean, Jason Armstrong — told me about an open position for a Criminal Justice teacher at Sebastian River High School. I wasn't necessarily looking for a career change. I originally thought I’d try it for a year but quickly found that I really enjoyed teaching. One year became two, then three, and I eventually realized how much I loved this work. When MCC called me in 2021, I knew I had found where I truly belonged, and I’ve never been happier with that choice.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE WAY TO HELP STUDENTS SUCCEED IN YOUR CLASS?
For me, it all comes down to relationships. High school students are fun, and I make a real effort to get to know them — we talk about sports, history, music, Star Wars, fishing, and whatever else interests them. Building those connections allows me to pair enthusiasm and strong subject knowledge with genuine engagement. When students know you care, they’re far more motivated to succeed.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SUBJECT TO TEACH?
Comprehensive Law is my favorite to teach, by a slim margin. I love being able to draw from my legal background and make the subject come alive for students. That said, AP U.S. History is also a favorite — the depth and complexity of the subject matter is fascinating, and it sparks some of the best classroom discussions.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT WORKING WITH STUDENTS?
It may sound a little corny, but I really mean it: I enjoy helping students achieve their goals, no matter how big or small. Whether it’s competing on the mock trial team, applying for their dream college, getting an internship or simply building confidence in class, watching their growth and progress is the most rewarding part of the job.
WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR HOBBIES OR INTERESTS OUTSIDE OF TEACHING?
I enjoy playing golf, fishing, and spending time with my family and friends. Those activities keep me balanced and give me a chance to recharge outside the classroom.

The RACES method will help them dive deeper into Anne’s story while building thoughtful, evidence-based responses to the powerful themes and questions the book raises.

"What fashion trend from your high school days is making a comeback—and has you shaking your head in disbelief or loving?"
Skinnier sunglasses, jorts, and polka dots are becoming popular again, and I love it.
BELLA DONATO ‘26CURRENT MCC STUDENT
The 70's - chunky shoes, wide leg pants, bell bottoms, short skirts, vinyls, long straight hair-the best years.
MARY PAT EASON-LASKOWSKI ‘73
I love the clothing attire from the 70's. I think that the 70's wardrobe should make a return. I have added a few pieces to my wardrobe. The fashion of the 70's had style, spirit, spunk, flair, flash, and was full of color.
COACH TOM DOOLEY - CURRENT MCC TEACHER/COACH
The fashion comeback that I love the most would be low rise jeans that the girls wear from the 2000’s and definitely mullets, because anyone can pull them off.
JULIANA MARTIN ‘26 - CURRENT MCC STUDENT
The 'Bubble skirt/ dress' when I was in high school it was called the pumpkin skirt. Also tennis skirts were popular at the same time. It's funny how fashion evolves but always recycles itself. I love fashion and its evolution.
MARSHA WALKER-PABARUE - CURRENT MCC TEACHER
Adult onesies - aka bodysuits!
NICOLE DIDONNA ANTOSIA ‘96
Stirrup pants!!!
TAMMY JO COLOMBE JONES ’88
Two things I cringe about are wide-collared leisure suits. I wore one to an eighth-grade dance with a polka-dot shirt. Can't believe my mother let me go out in that! Also, up north they seem to be wearing leather bomber jackets. I was not cool when I wore one in the 1970s.
DEACON DARRELL BUONO - CURRENT MCC TEACHER
The high-waisted jeans and jean shorts and half shirt. Just didn't like the style then or now.
TRACIE CLAFIN-BRYANT - CURRENT MCC TEACHER
I am surprised that the velour sweatsuits (especially the Juicy Couture ones) are back in style. Plus, all of the Twilight references/T-shirts!
MEGAN CALLAHAN - CURRENT MCC TEACHER
Mini skirts, platform shoes

Through the years, the MCC family has generously supported our students through special scholarships. These include:
Acknowledging the importance of education in a young person’s life, these four-year scholarships recognize two hardworking, incoming freshmen with outstanding grades who show an interest in and aptitude for science and math, qualities Dr. Oswald values.
Named in memory of longtime MCC teacher and administrator Kathy Gotshall, this four-year $4,000 ($1,000 a year for four years) award recognizes two Melbourne Central Catholic High School incoming freshmen, one male and one female, who work hard in the classroom and whose families demonstrate financial need.
Named in honor of Dr. Michael McLaughlin ’76, the scholarship recognizes an incoming freshman who receives the highest score on the math portion of the High School Placement Test. The recipient of this scholarship receives a $1,000 scholarship, renewable for four years with a 3.5 GPA.
Named in memory of Mrs. Janice Doane Moyles '70 who was passionate about education. The Scholarship recognizes an incoming freshman who receives the highest score on the reading portion of the High School Placement Test. The recipient of this scholarship receives a $1,000 scholarship, renewable for four years with a 3.5 GPA.
Named in memory of David Franco ’02, the scholarship recognizes and incoming freshman active in service to their communities. The recipient of this scholarship receives a $500 scholarship, renewable for four years
Named in memory of Joseph Verlander, a parent of three MCC graduates who established the award, the scholarship recognizes an incoming freshman who presents good academic credentials and demonstrates exemplary citizenship. The recipient of this scholarship receives a $500 scholarship, renewable for four years.
New for 2025-26
The Parker-Turner Family established the Scholarship to benefit a student who exemplifies what it means to be a young practicing Catholic. One Melbourne Central Catholic High School student will earn the distinction of The Parker-Turner Family Scholar and receive a four-year $6,000 award ($1,500 per year for 4 years). The student will be an active, practicing Catholic from the Our Lady of Lourdes community who works hard in the classroom and earns acceptance to Melbourne Central Catholic High School.

The $1,973 scholarship honors members of the MCC Class of 1973 who have passed away, and strengthens the class’s special bond as it recognizes an incoming freshman from a Catholic elementary school who has good grades and whose family demonstrates financial need.
Pictured below: Scholarship receipent Kayla Mino '29, her mother, and Mike Ganio '73

Named in memory of Nicholas Jones ‘22, a Melbourne Central Catholic High School student athlete who passed away in 2023, this $500 scholarship recognizes a rising senior who has an interest in joining the military or whose family is military (active or retired).

Charitable support to Melbourne Central Catholic High School enhances our programs, equipment, and facilites on campus. The generosity of alumni, current parents, alumni parents, grandparents, and friends helps MCC provide a quality group of young men and women each year.
There are many ways to invest in Melbourne Central Catholic High School. These methods of giving fit into two categoriesCurrent Gifts and Deferred (Planned) Gifts.
The MCC Fund Gifts help us meet the critical needs of families requesting tuition assistance and impact all aspects of school operations.
We receive gifts on every business day of the year. Any member of the MCC family may make a gift or pledge at any time during the year (in our annual report we will acknowledge gifts made during each fiscal year, July 1 –June 30). It is important to note that there is no official “kick-off” for MCC Fund gifts.
• A Gift of Cash in the form of a personal check payable to Melbourne Central Catholic High School or gifts made via MasterCard, Visa, American Express or Discover.
• Mandatory retirement account distributions.
• A Gift of Stock may be transferred to Melbourne Central Catholic High School avoiding any capital gains tax.
• A Matching Gift from a corporation. Several hundred U.S. companies participate in this program.
Although many investors choose to allow MCC to use their gifts where they are most needed, we fund several special programs and projects through restricted gifts each year. These include gifts for enhanced equipment, programs and facilities.

This is a gift made by a provision in one’s will naming Melbourne Central Catholic High School as beneficiary. It can reduce estate taxes.
This gift allows the donor to receive benefits for his/her lifetime and to qualify for a charitable tax deduction. This form of support is attractive when one has highly appreciated assets. Melbourne Central Catholic High School requires a minimum gift of $5,000 to establish this gift.
If Melbourne Central Catholic High School is named as the owner and beneficiary of a life insurance policy, the policy premiums become eligible as a tax-deductible gift.
FISCAL YEAR ENDING JUNE 30, 2025
*Unaudited Total Operating Expenses $6,193,068
The MCC Fund involves, informs, and bonds graduates, current parents, grandparents, alumni parents, and friends of Melbourne Central Catholic High School; gifts help the staff provide a top-notch education for students by supporting every aspect of school operations.
We remain grateful as we recognize the following donors who invested in MCC during the 2024-25 school year. Their commitment and generosity help to ensure our continued growth.
We have made every effort to assure accuracy in both gift reporting and donor listing. Please contact the MCC Advancement Office (advancement@melbournecc.org) with any corrections.
Our giving year runs from July 1 – June 30.
