The September issue of The Curvy not only showcases a brand new look, it also signifies the beginning of monthly editions, allowing us more space to keep you up to date with all the latest styles and news from Zizzi.

From revealing portraits of women who inspire us with their unique personalities – and not least style – to new season trends and styling tips and tricks for women who know how they want clothes to make them feel, beauty advice, interiors inspiration and more. Each month our team of dedicated editors bring you a unique mix of inspiring content and expert advice.

Profiling styles available online and in Zizzi stores throughout September, in this issue we zoom in on new ways to wear the season’s buy-now pieces, as well as advice on how to select and style the right pair of jeans for your shape.

As we cleanse our closet and pack away summer’s airy fabrics to make way for autumn’s cosy knits, we also take a closer look at the season’s stylish coats and jackets. And we meet Lilja Baldurs, an inspiring New Yorkbased creative, for a chat about her style and thoughts on being a woman today.

DESIGNER FOCUS: AUTUMN COLLECTION With a new season anchored in the spirit of the ‘70s, what better time than now to embrace your womanhood? We talked to head designer Anna Juul Jepsen about Zizzi’s new Autumn collection.

Pushing the envelope with stylish silhouettes, better-thanever fits and state-of-the art fabrics with natural fibres, Zizzi’s Autumn collection offers a careful edit of basic styles and key seasonal pieces.

“The collection is about embracing details from the ‘70s and placing them in a new and modern context,” says Zizzi’s head designer, Anna Juul Jepsen. “Autumn is a beautiful reunion with some of the most versatile and flattering trends throughout time. It’s a sensorial, feminine collection, where denim lends a modern, cool edge to the season.”

Revivals of traditional shapes include peasant tops, parka coats and classic shirting. Textural velvet, crisp cotton, fluid crepe and quilted fabrics are infused with details that balance the contemporary and the classic – from sporty piped trim and timeless lace to turtleneck silhouettes and graphic check. Earthy shades of tan, brown and black are invigorated with pops of burgundy and moss green, and ditsy florals and timeless polka dots underpin the collection’s poetic feel.

For Anna, inspiration also comes from women on the street: “I admire the style of women who dare to show who they are through fashion, and who create new trends with their personal style. These are the women we create fashion for,” she says.

Careful construction ensures a perfect fit, whether figure-hugging ribbed-knit or gently tailored blouses, the collection profiles a range of silhouettes that skim curves to flatter every frame and make the wearer feel self-assured

and confident – an important consideration when designing the collection.

“Fit is critical to our collection – and something we never compromise on. We want women to feel comfortable and confident, so we work hard to ensure each piece is flattering as well as functional. We select flexible fabrics that contain natural fibres, and by cutting and draping we form the silhouettes to provide the best possible fit. Often we add extra details such as drawstrings, inserts and adjustable panels that allow women to adjust to fit their frame perfectly,” says Anna.

LILJA BALDURS FROM NEW YORK #ZIZZIPEOPLE Lilja Baldurs is a 32-year-old Icelandic producer living in New York.

She works in all sorts of creative fields like fashion, music and art. She produces campaigns, editorials, commercials, music videos and art shows. She does a lot of work with virtual reality, which is very new and exciting, and specialises in creating virtual reality projects for fashion brands.

ilja Baldurs is a 32-year-old producer with Icelandic roots. Today she is living and working in New York City.

What is the current focus of your life?

Since I finished my Master’s degree in 2014, my main focus in life has been on my work. My career has been developing and growing rapidly since I moved to New York and I’m really happy here.

What are the most important beliefs and goals in your life right now?

I have come to realise that feeling confident in yourself, inside and out, will translate to all areas of your life. The relationship you have with yourself is the most important relationship you’ll ever have, and you have to love yourself in order to love everyone and everything else in your life.

When do you feel most feminine? And when – and how – is your femininity challenged?

I feel most feminine when I take care of my body inside and

out. For example when I take a bath or put on creams and oils. Also when I put on clothing that I feel confident in.

My femininity has definitely been challenged in the past, especially in the workplace, but that was only because I allowed that to happen or I didn’t know how to use my femininity as a strength. There have been times when I saw my femininity as a weakness and I thought I needed to be strong or powerful to get men to respect and listen to me.

It took me some time to realise that, actually, my femininity can be valuable when dealing with people, and when you tap into that you become the best version of yourself and the people around you respond really well to that.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

Never settle.

What’s your motto?

Follow your bliss and live life in your truth and without regrets.

STYLE QUESTIONS Describe your style I usually stick to classics with an edge. I dress first and foremost to complement my body. I don’t follow trends and usually have very strong opinions about what I like and what I don’t like.

I really like one-of-a-kind items that not many people have. For example, I just got a pair of leather shoes handmade for me in Israel, they have a beautiful embroidered bird on them.

They are such a good example of what I love and they fit my style very well. I also love that I most likely will not run into anyone else wearing the same shoes.

Best style tip(s)?

Dress in what you feel comfortable and confident in and be true to your own style.

Best style advice you’ve received?

Stay classy, less is more.

Which upcoming trend are you looking forward to?

Autumn and Spring are my favourite seasons for fashion.

I cannot wait for the Autumn season to arrive with its beautiful grey, purple, blue and dusty colors.

What outfit makes you feel most confident?

I love wearing long, usually black coats in the autumn and the spring. This is a very popular style in Scandinavia but not so much here in New York, someone even told me I looked like the guy from the film The Matrix, which I found quite funny.

What are your go-to items?

In the Autumn, my go-to item is a good loafer shoe and a stylish long coat.

What is your favorite accessory?

I’m not much for jewellery so I’d have to say shoes.

Although, I do love a nice gold bar earring.

The moment that changed me forever ...

Was when I moved from Iceland to London. And then again when I moved from London to New York. I’m definitely a big-city girl and moving from Iceland allowed me to flourish into the woman I am today.

Which part of your body do you love the most?

I don’t know if this counts but it’s probably my hair. It used to be much more red when I was younger but as I’ve aged it has become a golden strawberry blonde color. Apart from my hair, I’d have to say my eyes.. or my toes haha See the full story at your local Zizzi website

Briefly describe your beauty routine.

My evening make-up often involves red lipstick or some black around the eyes.

The first thing I do in the morning is drink a glass of boiled water with half a lemon, that kind of cleanses my body, after that I do yoga, at the moment I’m really into Nadia. If I have lots of time I run out to ocean and swim.

I dry brush my body daily before I shower and use Moroccan Rose Body Oil from REN. What is your favourite beauty product and why?

On my face I use face oil from REN underneath my day cream, which is Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré. I mix a few drops of Aveda’s Balancing Infusion into my day cream.

I dream of a spa break at The Ranch in Malibu.

My best beauty advice is good food, plenty of water and sleep, breathe, love, laugh, be friendly... and deeply thankful.

Otherwise, I really like REN’s Wake Wonderful Night-Time Facial.

My motto is: The cure for anything is salt water: sweat, tears, or the sea.
