Picking Daisies

By Terry James Clark

I wtote the now popular song Picking Daisies many years ago while I lived in a house with property outside of caro MI that was a rental. I eventually had to move from there but this song captured a moment a thought and a feeling and stupid neighbors is what got it started. So there was a church property next door to me and always different people coming out there as group events and people they knew. I had everything from their Lawnmower guy coming in and mowing over my garden, to a young guy driving his truck into the field to see what was burning (on my property a field area before the house.) So one day I was out in the field picking daisies and other wildflowers and just enjoying nature and peacefulness, there were berries out there too. So I got back near the corner where my rental property joins their property and a row of Pines is on their property. Out of the pines I hear “kill kill kill”, and soon see 2 adults and 2 children all dressed in black ops with machine gun style weapons, real or not I don’t know. They emerged from the pines I said “Get the Hell out of here this is not your property” and proceeded to bitch at them, but they left and I made a state police report soon after. Well that got me all worked up because I really don’t like guns and murder and violence all that much and sure as hell was having a hard time keeping these nuts off my land. Then I got to thinking about all the people who have died from gun violence and wrote this song. I saw the video in my mind of myself and children and ladies running free in the fields, having fun, picking daisies and mowed down in gunfire, the field all bloody and torn. So much for peaceful thoughts anyways, try again. Deeper into the woods away from all the violence. But anyway, the song I created track by track and I will say its one of my more orchestrated songs, but its pretty much lead guitar tracks one slightly different from each other and one harmonic to the other. My harmonies in guitar and voice occur very naturally as I trained at a young age singing to my favorite songs whatever harmony I made up for it. I really like the way the song turned out in my recording of it and I believe it to be one of my best. Maybe one day I will get the chance to perform it for you if I don’t die first. So now you know, have a nice day.
