The Territorial Difference Dedicated Trial, Research & Seed Production Farm

All the seed varieties that we offer have been grown and tested at our 75-acre farm. Each year we dedicate approximately 5 acres to trialing new varieties and growing out current offerings for quality assurance. We trial hundreds of new varieties each year, and only those that have proven to thrive and perform, yielding the highest quality crops, will receive our stamp of approval. In addition, we produce seed varieties that are carefully grown and maintained using the best traditional selection and isolation practices. This ensures that our signature crops are of the highest quality, true-to-type, and best germinating seeds available.

Highest Germination Standards

To ensure we sell only top performing seed we have established germination standards that are higher than those prescribed by the Federal Seed Act. Our resident seed analyst tests every lot of seed we sell to ensure your success.

Organic Certified

The majority of our farm is used for Organic seed crop production. Our farm is our own largest seed producer, specializing in lettuces, tomatoes, cucumbers, and squash. We are certified USDA organic by CCOF Certification Services LLC.

40+ Years of Hands-On Growing Expertise

Since its founding the mission of Territorial Seed Company has been to help growers produce fresh-from-the-garden food yearround. The Johns family, owners since 1985, continue the tradition of rigorous testing, trialing, and data analysis to help our customers be successful. The family continues to learn and grow each season, along with the entire Territorial Team.

100% Guarantee on all Products

At Territorial our products are backed by our full guarantee. We want you, our customers, to be 100% satisfied with the seed, plants and supplies that you purchase from us. If anything you buy from Territorial proves to be unsatisfactory, we will either replace the item or refund the purchase price, whichever you prefer.

Family-Owned & Operated Since 1979

Territorial Seed Company was founded on the idea that there should be a resource that gardeners and growers could turn to for everything they needed: the highest quality seed, extensive growing information, and hands-on knowledge of the varieties being sold. We began doing just that with crops and experience gathered at our fledgling 5 acre farm. From that humble beginning, everything offered to customers was trialed and tested on this small plot. After 40+ years the only thing that has changed is the amount of acreage Territorial grows on! Tom and Julie Johns have continued to improve upon the original ideals, which permeate Territorial Seed Company's core and spread to all the new, innovative ventures including these professional offerings. Their son and daughter have also joined the team, and together the family strives to continue the tradition of quality, knowledge, and dedication that has made Territorial seed the best around.

What is pelleted seed? Seed that has been coated with a clay-based material to form a larger, round shape. This makes planting by hand or mechanical seeder easier and allows for more controlled sowing of small seeds such as carrots or lettuce. All pelleted seed have a National Organic Program (NOP) approved coating. For best results, store pelleted seed in an air-tight container and use within one season.

Dealing with weeds and maintaining organic standards can mean a lot of back-breaking work. Plastic mulches are effective at weed suppression, but they don't decompose. That's why we recommend this biodegradable paper mulch. EcoMulch is heavyweight, opaque, blends nicely with the soil color, and is 100% bio-based. Its unique, creped texture gives the paper some flex and allows it to conform comfortably to the soil surface. Apply either manually or with a mulch layer, and till under at the end of the season. The paper will naturally decompose, adding valuable organic matter to the soil. Note: We recommend using this mulch on flat applications rather than raised beds. Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI) listed. • Excellent weed suppression—100% opaque • Creped texture adds flexibility and body for good • Reduce runoff and conserve water ground contact • Water and nutrient permeable material • Compatible with both drip and overhead irrigation • Natural color blends with and warms the soil ZRC777*..........4' x 250'.............$99.95 *

Pelleted seed is coated with a clay-based, National Organic Program (NOP) approved material to form a larger, round shape. This makes planting by hand or mechanical seeder easier and allows for more controlled sowing of small seeds such as carrots or lettuce. For best results, store pelleted seed in an air-tight container and use within one season.

CRIMSON CLOVER (OP)

Excellent overwintering selection for nitrogen fixing. Trifolium incarnatum (A) Non-runner variety that's easily eliminated by tilling. Can fix 125 pounds of nitrogen per acre and attracts beneficial insects if allowed to flower in summer. Pre-inoculated. Hardiness zone: 6 and higher for overwintering NEW

Seeding rate: 30–40 pounds per acre

MICROCLOVER® (OP)

Our shortest clover cover crop! Trifolium repens (P) A durable, multi-purpose plant. It has naturally dense growth that provides excellent weed suppression and will only reach 3–6 inches tall, but periodic mowing keeps it shorter and very lush. Its nitrogen-fixing ability helps feed the soil for a naturally sustainable planting. Hardiness zone: 4

Seeding rate: 1 pound per 1000 square feet

NEW ZEALAND WHITE CLOVER (OP) Crimson Clover

Microclover®

Low-growing perennial—an exceptional selection for between row plantings and orchards. Trifolium repens (P) Reliably resilient nitrogen-fixing clover reaches only about 8 inches tall and forms a lush, green mat. Vigorous crop is more drought tolerant than White Dutch and thrives in a wide range of soils. Capable of fixing 170 pounds of nitrogen per acre. Hardiness zone: 4

Seeding rate: 6–10 pounds per acre

SMALL FAVA (OP)

Magnificent stands up to 6 feet tall. Vicia faba (A) Overwintered in zones 7 and warmer, Small Favas offer an immense amount of biomass along with nitrogen fixing. Spring sown in cooler zones. Tolerates temporarily waterlogged soils. Best when drilled 3 inches. Hardiness zone: 7 and higher for overwintering

Seeding rate: 200 pounds per acre

Cereal Grains & Grass OATS (OP)

Fast growing and a great nurse crop for legumes. Avena sativa (A) A multi-purpose cover crop for erosion control, fall planted and naturally winter killed for a soft, spring seedbed, or spring/summer sown and mown for oat hay. Hardiness zone: 8

New Zealand White Clover

Small Fava

Seeding rate: 50 pounds per acre

Blends TSC'S FALL MIX (OP)

A well-balanced cover crop for fall sowing. Trifolium incarnatum, Lathyrus hirsutus, Vicia villosa, Secale cereale, Lolium multiflorum (A) Our signature cover crop blend for overwintering is a blend of Austrian Field Peas, Crimson Clover, Hairy Vetch, and Annual and Winter Ryes. This multi-benefit mix helps control weeds and erosion while fixing nitrogen and adding rich, organic matter when tilled in. Seeding rate: 100 pounds per acre
