Known as Bergen County’s Parkland, Mahwah has more open space than any other municipality in the county. The town covers more than 26 square miles along the Ramapo Mountains and Ramapo River and contains nearly 5,000 acres of state and county parkland. Mahwah boasts a mixture of historic homes, Cape Cods, townhouses, condominiums and million-dollar mansions.

The township is rich with history, featuring landmarks like the three-story Crocker Mansion, built in 1901 for the son of railroad tycoon Charles Crocker, and the Mahwah Assembly plant, where Ford Motor Company built over six million cars between 1955 and 1980.

An active community powers Mahwah. Townwide events are held year-round and many volunteer groups and clubs are at the heart of the town’s “feel-good” approach to life in New Jersey. Public schools in Mahwah include Betsy Ross Elementary School for grades K-3, Lenape Meadows Elementary School for grades preK-3, George Washington Elementary for grades K-3, Joyce Kilmer School for grades 4-5, Ramapo Ridge Middle School for grades 6-8, and Mahwah High School for grades 9-12.

The township is home to the vocational school Lincoln Technical Institute, the private Young World Day School, and Ramapo College of New Jersey, a highly-rated public liberal arts higher education institute.

Boasting 110 miles of roadway, including stretches of Interstate 287 and Route 17, Mahwah is a car-friendly township. Mahwah residents can enjoy public transportation courtesy of the New Jersey Transit rail service, running from Mahwah station all the way to Hoboken Terminal and Newark. The Short Line Bus provides service to the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan.
