TELL ABOUT YOURSELF

Terrance Phillips is a potential architectural designer from Houston, Texas. After growing up in southern hip-hop culture in his hometown, his dream goal is to create a platform space that promotes and represents my group's social, economic, and political dynamics in hip-hop culture. He decided to pursue his current research on Hip Hop Architecture at the University of Southern California because he believes that a new creative concept can resolve issues and impact our lives, the very essence of quality of life. His purpose as a designer is to live in a world where I can create and bring possibilities into existence, thereby shaping our world for the better. hometown, is social, I our

THESIS STATEMENT

HOUSTON, TEXAS, USA

H TOWN HIP HOP CULTURE

Houston, the capital of Texas rap, is one of the unique hip-hop cities in the southern region of the United States, and it has its sound, style, and culture. Chopped and screwed is a popular music genre in Houston hip-hop culture and a unique technique of remixing music that involves slowing down the tempo and DJing. DJ Screw is the blueprint of Chopped and screwed since the early 1990s, and it sets that trend of Chopped and screwed until this day. Slab culture in Houston's hip-hop scene has been a uniquely southern subculture of auto-enthusiasm since the 80s, and vehicles with slabs can be seen anywhere in Houston by their custom candy paint, interiors, and wheels. With early roots in jazz, blues, and R&B, Houston hip-hop evolved as a cultural movement through time and beat the standards of being just as a musical form. It expands to different cultural activities of Houston hip hop thanks to Houston artists like Slim Thug, Pimp C, Bun B, Paul Wall, Beyonce, Chamillionaire, Travis Scott, Megan Thee Stallion, Scarface, and many more.
