Welcome Message from the Event Director

Phillip Island Penrite 100 Classic

13–15 March 2026 | Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit

Welcome to a weekend where time stands still and the golden era of motorsport comes roaring back to life.

On behalf of the organising committee, it is my great pleasure to welcome all sponsors, competitors, officials, volunteers, and motorsport fans to the 2026 Phillip Island Penrite 100 Classic, held at the iconic Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit.

Fresh from the excitement of last weekend’s modern Formula 1 action, we now shift gears to celebrate the heritage, passion, and unforgettable machinery that shaped the very foundations of our sport. This event marks a return to where it all began - a tribute to the legends, the craftsmanship, and the enduring spirit of classic motorsport.

This year, the Phillip Island Classic celebrates 37 years of history, and I would like to take a moment to recognise the extraordinary contribution of Ian Tate OAM. His dedication and vision have been instrumental in building this event into one of the world’s premier historic race meetings. It is an honour to follow in his footsteps, and we remain committed to upholding the high standards of excellence he established.

Throughout the weekend, you will witness an exceptional lineup of historic and classic race machines tackling one of the world’s most picturesque and technically demanding circuits. Whether you are competing, preparing a car in the paddock, or cheering from the fence line, this event promises fierce competition, camaraderie, and the unmistakable magic that only classic racing can deliver.

Director’s Welcome

We extend our sincere thanks to Penrite and our patron Margaret Dymond OAM for their continued and generous support, as well as to the many volunteers, marshals, and officials whose hard work and dedication make this event possible. Your commitment ensures that the Phillip Island Penrite 100 Classic remains a highlight of the historic motorsport calendar.

To our competitors - we wish you safe, spirited, and fair racing.

To our spectators - thank you for joining us, and for helping keep the noise, colour, and passion of historic motorsport alive.

Together, we celebrate not only the machines, but the generations of people who continue to carry forward the true spirit of motorsport.

Margaret Dymond ~ PATRON

The VHRR is thrilled to annouce this year's Patron of the Phillip Island Penrite 100 Classic as Margaret Dymond, Board Member and Director of Penrite Oils

Affectionately known to her Penrite family as ‘Marsey’ or ‘Marg,’ there are countless stories about Mrs. Dymond that reflect her warmth and dedication. Whether she’s chatting with young motorsport competitors in the pits, engaging with motoring enthusiasts at local car shows, or camping at motorcycle events, Marg is always involved. Despite her active presence, she’s never one to namedrop or seek the spotlight, so most people wouldn’t realise they’re speaking to the owner of the business.

For the past 45 years, Marg has been the cornerstone of Penrite, providing the strong family bond that has kept the company united. Her commitment to Australian manufacturing, her strong family values, and her “give it a go” attitude have all played crucial roles in Penrite’s success.

Penrite owner and long-time motorsport supporter

Margaret Dymond has been recognised for the Order of Australia Medal (OAM) and named the Australian Performance Automotive Council (APAC) Australian of the Year, becoming the first female recipient of the award.

At 94 years of age, Margaret remains an active and influential figure within the motorsport industry. She continues to serve on the Penrite Oil board as the company celebrates its 100th year, while maintaining strong support for young drivers, riders, teams and motorsport events across Australia.

As Penrite approaches a major milestone, Marg, too, is reaching a similar personal milestone but remains deeply involved in every aspect of the business. Her passion for youth motorsport, small business, and charitable causes keeps her incredibly busy, ensuring her influence continues to shape Penrite's future.

In 2026, Penrite Oil will proudly celebrate its 100th anniversary - a monumental milestone for a family-owned, Australian-made brand that has stood the test of time. This achievement is a testament to the dedication of every person who has been part of the Penrite journey, from its humble beginnings to becoming a trusted name in lubricants and oils. As we mark this significant occasion, we’re inviting our valued partners, customers, and supporters to join us in the celebration.

To honour this milestone, we’ve got an exciting line-up of large-scale activations, promotions, and events planned across Australia. We’re also offering exclusive experiences to give our community a special behind-the-scenes look at what makes Penrite so unique. So, be sure to stay connected through Penrite’s social channels or reach out to your local Penrite sales representative for all the latest updates.

The first of these initiatives will be the unveiling of our new 100th anniversary logo and the launch of the "People of Penrite" series, which will begin this year. This series will highlight the stories of those who have contributed to Penrite’s success and will feature our new look at your local retailer and across social media platforms.

As we celebrate 100 years of innovation and commitment to quality, we remain deeply proud of our roots as a family-owned Australian company. Supporting local manufacturing and staying true to our values of creating high-performance products made right here in Australia is more important than ever. We look forward to sharing this exciting chapter with you and continuing to build on our legacy for another 100 years.

1960 Mk1 Lola Sports

Samantha Dymond 1960 Mk1 Lola Sports

Established in 1958 by Eric Broadley MBE, Lola is Great Britain’s longest-serving manufacturer of racing cars. Lola has built cars for all spheres of the sport from humble club classes to Formula 1, and endurance sports racers to Indy cars and is still at the forefront of the worldwide motorsport.

The name Lola came from the lyrics of a song from the contemporary musical Damn Yankees: "whatever Lola wants, Lola gets".

Only 36 MK 1 Lola’s were produced. The Mark 1 Lola was a very successful racing car, winning races in the Continent as well as Asia. The cars were offered in a wide variety of configurations as regards choice of engine, gearbox, wheels and tyres to allow the purchaser to fit the car to his budget.

Malaysian driver Chan Lye Choon took delivery of this car in 1961 and raced the car though out Asia including winning the 1961 Jahore Grand prix.

The car passed through several Asian based owners before being sent to the UK in 1973 and then onto Europe to pass through several more owners. Bruce Roberts of South Australia purchased the car form the UK in 1980 and imported it to Australia.

The currents owner purchased this Lola Mk1 from Bruce in 1994.

Penrite is proud to have this Lola Mk1 as part of its collection.

Samantha Dymond Profile:

I received my CAMs licence back in 1999, after spending many years watching my brother's race cars and motorbikes.

I thought “one day I would like to give this car racing a go”. Dad, of course, was very excited and happy.

I have driven a few cars over the years ; Formula Ford, Elfin Clubman, AC Ace. But my favourite is the Lola.

My late brother Mark drove the Lola and one day sitting at the back of the pits at Sandown I asked Mark out of all the cars he had driven what was his favourite? Mark said the Lola and if I was ever lucky enough to drive her one day I would know why. And Mark was right the Lola is a beautiful old school race car, very pretty to look at and holds a very special place in my heart.

My most memorable Trophy won was the Mark Dymond memorable Trophy given to the winner at Winton short track.

I had been trying to win that Trophy for ten years. I came 2nd many times and finally my turn was in 2019. It was a very emotional and special day for me.

I've also won the Diana Davison/Gaze award and was also lucky to have the lady herself present the award one year. A remarkable Lady who was truly a ground breaker for women in motorsport.

Other hobbies - I love horse riding, bike riding and hanging out with my 13-year daughter Hayley who also horse rides.

Growing up in a very male dominated world I hope I have shown my daughter or other women that women cannot only participate in motor sport, but also be damn competitive!

Dean How - BMW 635csi

It was one of three cars build in Austria (Europe) and the first BMW 635csi’s to run Group 2 (6 built in total), as the BMW E9 3.0csl’s “Batmobiles” were now outdated and BMW still wanted to play motorsport and win.

Chassis numbers of the three cars were 635180 white car, 635280 green car and 635380 red car, which is this car, all still survive today.

BMW employed Werginz Motorsport to build, and produce the homologation papers for a 635 to run group 2.

It was first sold to Karl Hurler who raced it in the European touring car championships in 1980, until Frank Gardner was paid by BMW Australia to go to BMW Germany and bring back a car that could compete in the Australian Group C championship, and win.

Between Frank Gardner and Allan Grice, they bought this car, converted it from Group 2, to Group C, and away they went using Grice’s sponsorship deal with cigarette sponsorship JPS.

It was mainly focused to do really well in all the endurance rounds, so Bathurst was always high on the list of win expectations.

It was a first in Australia to run an in-car camera, along with a Celica in Bathurst 1981 with Grice and Hobbs driving, where it finished 7th in a shortened race caused by an accident at the top of the mountain, also quite a memorable moment where Grice got stuck in the sand trap and lost seven laps, all recorded on live TV to see Grice’s error.

In the same year it won the Amscar series, and did most of the championship rounds in Australia.

In 1982, Frank (team boss) got rid of Grice and now has Jim Richards as the main driver, which turned out to be a vey bitter dispute between Grice and Gardner, as Gardner also took Grice’s sponsorship deal with him.

It raced most of the ATCC rounds in 1982 including Bathurst driven by Denny Hulme and Steven Brook where It DNF’d (accident) and its life with BMW Australia finished as it got damaged in that race.

1983 it was repaired and sold to an Adelaide privateer BMW specialist Micheal McMicheal, and he campaigned it in non-championship rounds, he also got a deal to take it to Malaysia in 1984 and 85 to race with some big names in support races for the Malaysian GP in those years.

Micheal decided he wanted to sell the car around 1993, so he stripped all the mechanical drive line out, and sold it to a Melbourne man as a rolling shell who then parked in in the back of an old petrol Station, where it sat until 2004 when I acquired it.

As it was missing all the mechanical drive line, and I had no idea where it all was, I sent it to the Bathurst museum until I was ready to restore the car after I found all the missing bits.

14 years later.

In 2018 a few very large pallets turned up on my door at Peninsula BM in Mornington, and in these boxes were all the missing parts for the car, and I mean everything, engine, gearbox, diff, all the pumps and coolers, exhaust, slide throttle, nuts bolts, EVERYTHING.

I brought the car back home and mechanically restored the car in 2019, and sold my current L34 Torana Group C car, and in 2019 finally carried out a paint restoration as 40 years had taken its toll on the body shell.

Now I race this thing in the national HTC (Heritage Touring Cars) championship, where I finished second this year.

05 Brock M3

In September this year my wife Jo and I acquired our absolute dream race car, the 05 Brock M3 from '88, which was also one of the Jim Richards JPS cars from '87. The car was in a reasonable running condition and looked okay from a small distance upon acquisition. However, for it to meet our aesthetic standards and us to be able to sign off on its reliability, we began an extensive rotisserie restoration on December 1st, which gives us 88 days before its shakedown at AMF, two weeks prior to The Phillip Island Classic!

We are very fortunate to do this work for a living and will complete every process in-house within our own dedicated vehicle restoration facility here in Kuitpo Forest, SA.

There were three Mobil M3's used in '88 and this particular chassis was Peter Brock's for the twelve ATCC and AMSCAR rounds, it then became Neil Crompton's car for the four enduro's where he partnered David Parson's for the Australian ones and Tony Noske for the Wellington 500, finally Jim Richard's closed off the year at the AGP wearing the 1 on the car for this non championship event! Very importantly from a historical perspective, Peter Doulman took ownership of the car in early '89 and had a string of successes including Bathurst Class B wins with co-driver John Cotter, none more important than the 1993 Tooheys 1000 Under 2.0L win, which followed Peter's Under 2.0L ATCC Championship Title win.

My competitive motorsport spans back to Mudsprints and Motorkhanas forty two years ago at age thirteen, since then rallies, hill climbs and circuit sprints have been the bulk of my competitive driving, though in 2021 we did acquire an original 2004 Lemans GT3 RSR which I have used extensively over the last 4 years in race, demonstration and even hill climb events.

Norax c2

Kevin West - The norax c2. (Nora)

The norax c2. (Nora) is one of 3 prototypes built in the 1980w in the south Australian norax lamp factory by 3 friends who all finished up with one each. Nora is the 1st built .

The 2nd one sits in storage after a ground up restoration. Almost ready to race again. Number 3 has recently moved from south Australia after sitting in a trailer for a number of years, it has found a new home in Melbourne and we are waiting to see what the future holds for this one .

The norax c2 (Nora) is a reared engine rotary powered with a 5 speed VW gearbox. We have owned the norax since 2020 and have continued to race it competitively since then. Attending phillip island, Winton, The bend, Mallala, wakefield park and 2024 attended the Adelaide motor festival as an invited car.

We plan to continue to compete into the future. We give a huge thanks to our family and friends, supporters and fellow competitors for keeping historic motorsport alive and on the track to be displayed for all to see. Kevin West Q&R sports and racing.

Craig Miles - Group NC Historic – VH E49 Charger

My love of motorsport began when my dad took my two brothers and me to a race meeting at Sandown. We were young but instantly hooked, and watching legends like Brock and Moffat in the 1970s sparked a passion that’s never faded.

Like many, I dreamed of being a race car driver. I started late, which makes motorsport tough, but simply getting on the grid has been a boyhood dream come true. I was never much good at footy or cricket anyway — a man has to know his limitations! I often joke I should’ve taken up golf… it would’ve been cheaper.

In 2008 I purchased this VH E49 Charger replica from South Australia. It originally wore Hemi Orange, looking and sounding every bit the Australian muscle car it is. While it looked sensational, it was far from sorted. The turning point came with the involvement of Ian Tate and Anthony Dove. Ian built a strong, reliable engine producing around 410 horsepower, while Anthony focused on tuning, suspension, braking and overall balance — no small task in a heavy Group N car. Their combined expertise transformed the Charger into a genuinely competitive and enjoyable race car. During COVID, when racing was on hold, the Charger was repainted Limelight Green, marking a fresh chapter for both the car and me.

The Charger is a true Australian muscle car. While it didn’t enjoy the same level of success as Brock’s Torana XU-1 or Moffat’s Falcon GTHO, it has always turned heads — and who doesn’t love an underdog? As they said back in the day when the Charger first appeared… “Hey Charger!”

While Bathurst will always be number one, Phillip Island is one of my favourite tracks. Its fast, flowing nature really suits the Charger and makes it a pleasure to drive. The Phillip Island Classic is always a highlight — a fun, relaxed event with incredible cars on display and one of the friendliest crowds in Australian motorsport.

Racing is about more than lap times. The camaraderie in the pits, the support from fellow competitors, and the weekends spent racing alongside family and mates are just as important as the results.

Career highlights include:

2011 – First race win at Winton

2012 – Norm Beechy Trophy winner

2013 & 2014 – Golden Oldies winner

2013 – Muscle Car Masters class win

2014 – 2nd in class at Bathurst

2014 – Ian Jones Trophy winner

2014 – Victorian State Champion

The Charger has tested me over the years, but the passion for racing hasn’t faded. Events like the Phillip Island Classic are exactly why we keep coming back.

Kevin Lewis - Kaditcha

This will be only my second time racing at Phillip Island. I started circuit racing in a self built Clubman in 1971, then ran Formula Ford to 1992.

In 1997 I purchased the Ransburg Cheetah Mk8 running in Formula 2. Wining the championship in 2004 and 2006. From 2004 till the present time I have been running Triple R Racing. Preparing, repairing and restoring Formula 2 and Formula 3 cars. During this time I have continued to race in Formula 2 in Cheetahs, Kaditchas , The CRD852, Reynards and in Formula 3 Dallaras. The Dallara I am racing was purchased as a roller, by the previous owner in 1994 and fitted with a VW Golf Formula 2 engine. He also owned the Ralt RT30 that was driven by David Brabham so the

Dallara had only 4 entries in its original log book when I purchased it in 2021.

The car had been stored from 2002 so it was completely stripped and rebuilt and a Certificate of Description obtained. It has only competed 6 race meetings since. This would without a doubt be the least raced 1993 Historic car anywhere in the World.

The car is for sale as I have 6 other restorations on the go and at 76 years old I would like a YOUNGER DRIVER to enjoy the full potential the car has to offer.

In the Q and R races I will be competing against 5 other cars that I have owned and raced, Noel Clark’s Cheetah Mk8, The Ransburg Cheetah, Alan Foley’s Kaditcha, The CRD of Rohan Carrig, and

Scott Ball - Bacchus/BMC Sports

The Bacchus represented the first original race cars from (Alpha Street Productions) ASP.

Named after the Greek god of wine these Lotus 7 inspired Clubman cars were powered by a variety of engines with a total of six cars completed under this name. This car is number 5 of 6 and was originally built for Bob Dwyer around 1963-64 and has always featured BMC engines and MOWOG drivetrains. Currently the car runs an Austin 1800 engine that has been converted by me to run North South. Alpha Street Productions (ASP) was founded by Ray Lewis and Rory Thompson with input from Peter Ivey, in the early sixties in Adelaide. The three had met through a common interest in sportscars. Ray, the part owner of Lewis Brothers Buses amongst other businesses provided the premises for their venture at his family home of Alpha house on Alpha Street Kensington Park in Adelaide. Rory however provided the technical knowledge after earning qualifications in mechanical engineering from the South Australian Institute of Technology.

Working initially on Lotus Sevens for Derek Jolly, Rory decided certain deficiencies of the Lotus design could be overcome with

the design of a new chassis. This first attempt at an entire car was named the Bacchus. The first of the chassis was sold bare but a further 5 cars were built under the Bacchus name with a variety of drivetrains fitted. The business then had a name change to ASP and went on to design and build many road & race cars including the ASP 320,330,340,340B, 340C.

Construction of sports cars continued in various forms until the early 2000s.

Scott Ball Started racing speedway in 1986 at the age of 16. First race car was an “Open Sportsman” (now known as a Wingless Sprintcars) then, after about 14 seasonsmoved on to Speedcars while also getting interested (and competing) at Hillclimbs in a Mini.

Around 2003 I decided to concentrate on motorsport on a sealed surface, initially still doing hillclimbs in my Mini Sports Sedan. Slowly progressed to circuit racing as family and mortgage commitments eased. Now I try to do between 5 or 6 events at various locations every year, depending on other commitments in either a Mini or the Bacchus sports car we have here this weekend.

The turbo era was a very special period in F1, with up to 1200 qualifying horsepower available for brief periods from engines of just 1.5 litres.

The 1985 Ferraris were an improved version of the 1984 cars, with twin low-mounted KKK turbos on 120 degree V6 engines. Compression ratios were as low as 6.5 to 1, with boost pressures of 30 to 50psi. The cars had sleeker bodywork courtesy of the Italian aircraft maker Aermacchi, and were regarded as the most attractive of the era.

Chassis #079 and #082 were two of the eight chassis’ built for the 1985 season. Together they were raced in eleven of the 16 races of the 1985 season.

Michele Alboreto drove chassis #079 with his race number 27 to two 2nd places in the Brazilian and Portuguese Grand Prix on 7 April and 21 April 1985 respectively. Its best positions in the remaining races were at 4th at the Austrian Grand Prix and a 6th in the San Marino Grand Prix.

Stefan Johansson drove Chassis #082 under his race number 28 to two 2nd places in the 16th June Canadian Grand Prix and the 25th June USA (Detroit) Grand Prix.

Michele Alboreto was supported through his early career with Ferrari by a wealthy patron –Count Gugge Zanon.

Count Zanon was clearly so well regarded by Ferrari for his support to Michele Alboreto and the Ferrari Grand Prix team of the time that Enzo Ferrari agreed to gift chassis #079 to the Count. Notwithstanding his involvement with Ferrari and Alboreto for some years, Count Zanon regarded the 85 GP car as the prettiest and best performing car of the period. He kept the car in his private collection for the next 10 years until he found that with his advancing years he wasn’t able to enjoy driving it as much as he would like.

Chassis #079 was always maintained and serviced by the Ferrari factory whilst it was in Count Zanon’s care. Alboreto drove it occasionally and declared it fit for active service prior to sale to its current owner, Guido Belgiorno-Nettis. Chassis #082 was acquired in 2006.

Since their purchases, chassis #079 and #082 have spent most of its time in Australia and have been driven in demonstration events and various Historic meetings at Phillip Island, Adelaide Motor Festival, Sydney Motorsport Park and Hampton Downs in New Zealand.

Its current owner successfully races the cars in Group R in Historic events, using one or other of the cars as a “T” car. The cars are in the identical livery as they competed the 1985 GP season.

Brian Weston - 1971 MG Midget Mk III

Group Sb under 1300 cc

A committed member of the Sprite/Midget brigade, likely an addiction stemming from buying a red Austin Healey Sprite Mk III from Gould’s Motors, Northcote, VIC on 28 November 1964. After serving 34 years in the RAAF and piloting some exotic machinery including commanding No 75 (Mirage) Squadron and the RAAF (F/A-18) Tactical Fighter Group, Brian and Renate – with their AH Sprite – moved to Canberra and bought a sister car: a British Racing Green 1275 cc Group Sb MG Midget.

Over those years the ‘little green car’ has held a number of Group Sb under 1300 cc lap records of which one still stands, the Oran Park GP

lap record of 1.24.33, set on 28 June 2009, at the last Oran Park race meeting before the developers moved in.

In all, the MG Midget has competed in 180 Group S race meetings at Wakefield Park, Oran Park (GP and South circuits), Eastern Creek, Winton (Short and Long circuits), Sandown, Tailem Bend, Bathurst and Phillip Island. The car has also competed in the VHRR Phillip Island Classic 21 times.

Brian Weston was president of the Group S Racing Association over the five years 2006 to 2010, and is a life member of the GSRA.

Gray - SC84 Tiga

The car is an SC84 Tiga with a strong racing pedigree. It previously set the Group R Sports record at Morgan Park when driven by Matthew Campbell, who soon after was signed by Porsche Germany and is now a senior Porsche factory driver. I’m a much more ordinary driver but I’ve had some good results with the car, including HRCC Group R Club Champion last year and three wins in the Australian-wide Sports 2000 championship, earning the Wal Donerly Trophy. Mostly though, I’m just enjoying the chance to race historic sports cars at great circuits like Phillip Island.

Sean Day - 2004 911 GT3RSR LeMans

Sean Day from South Australia will feature his completely original 2004 911 GT3RSR Lemans car in this years 'Classic' within the 5.0L Touring Car Sprint category

Sean uses this tmeless classic in events all over Aus, including various Hill Climbs, Circuit Sprints, GT Racing, World Time Attack and the AMF. The RSR was also Bosch Motorsport Australia's "Hero" car for 2024/2025 as they had a production company shoot extensive track and still footage to create a series of advertising propaganda, usefully targeting classic to modern motorsport race car owners and teams. Besides the MoTec M130 ECU for purposes of reliability, this beauty is in fact completely original, including its factory upgraded BBS wheel package which adds a further 2" width on the rear and 1" on the front. While this is one of only 27 RSR's built for customer racing back in 2004, it was initially purchased by a wealthy US family for private track days, which it did until 2006 when NSW GT Racer Simon Middleton purchased the car for use in that year's and the 2007 Bathurst 12 Hour events. Following a few smaller GT races Simon onsold the car to an SA

track day enthusiast who barely used the car. In 2010 it changed hands again in SA, and again the car would see little use, however this owner not only preserved the RSR's fortunate brilliant condition, but also restored or replaced absolutely anything that looked even remotely used. This included some hefty purchases from the Porsche museum in Stuttgart, as well as the detail of reverting the livery back to exactly how it was upon delivery from Porsche to its first caretaker! 2021 was the year that Sean's SA based Subaru Performance company S&J Automotive purchased this beauty, and while it definitely receives that same loving care as the previous owner treated it to, the RSR is seen at race events quite frequently!

The MALE BAG Track Rides

Patron’s Statement

I am honoured to have been the official patron of The Male Bag Ride/Foundation since April 2013, when 25 men decided to ride ex-postie Honda 110 motorcycles from Perth to Melbourne. Moving forward we have since organised a further five rides, round Tasmania in 2014, Victoria in 2015, Gippsland in 2016, Echuca/Moama region in 2017 and Victoria/Canberra/NSW in 2018.

Following the initial Perth to Melbourne ride work began to establish the foundation as a registered not-for-profit charity. We can now proudly say every cent of fund raising is directed to prostate care outcomes in regional areas - outcomes that would otherwise not be met.

Supported by so many people (riders, crew, sponsors, families and general public) we have now collected in excess of $1 million. This is used to raise awareness, purchase public hospital testing equipment, and provide patient nursing support, to fight prostate cancer in Australia.

It is important that we continue to spread the word about prostate cancer, in the hope that we can save more men from this insidious disease that kills over 3000 Australian men every year. Our website www.themalebagfoundation.org.au will provide you with more details of how you can help us with this work.

David Crabtree - March F5000A most satisfying life racing cars from 17 starting in karts and then a front engine F3 car in the late 60’s and early 70’s.

A life long status of being an also ran.

A MK 4 Cheetah chassis and body bought from Brian Shead in 72 was built up with a Ford for F3 and ran to 79 with many mods into the F2 status. Mostly with redundant Cheetah parts from Brian

The a sliding MK 6 tub and panels bought from Sheady again built up, and running a BMW in the 80’s. Well that combo got a 3rd in F2 championship. I have still have those cars and run in Historics. Late 80’s I went speedcar racing with some podium places and the tumbles that go with it. 90's was family time with 3 kids to feed so cars were parked.

2000 arrived and back to speedway and ran up to 3 midgets/ speedcars as a team, more podiums and a first midget drive given to Brad Sweet who became a named driver in the USA and Australia. 2010 arrived and the body was giving up to the rigours of the physical forces of dirt racing. So a bit of driver management of my driver took over.

2014 woke up one day, back in shed and Cheetah MK4 came out. Raced for 4 years, then a Ralt RT4 which became hard on body again like a midget .

Then a mate told me to get a F5000, which I bought. Well what a ride that is.

So the Cheetah MK 6 came to the fore again for short track use. One day again I woke up and bought a Group NC Capri from the famed Lawie Nelson. Now that’s fun Took the under 3 liter Ford race from the Tassie boys at Baskerville in 22.

So the Big car is a March F5000 that Ray Gibbs bought out to Aus in the 80’s to run the F5000 series at the time. It then sat in a museum for a period of time.

At the start it had some teething problems, but now well sorted out. The best thing to drive besides a period F1 Williams. That’s my life, still doing it.

Sons of a gun

Sons of a gun

What do two brothers who race two famous Mercedes-Benz touring cars have in common? A father who quietly helped shape Australian motor racing.

If you had to list three pioneers of Australian racing cars you would probably say Brabham, Tauranac and Matich, and rightly so. Jack, Ron and Frank are remembered as practical mechanical geniuses who turned clever ideas into racetrack hardware that collected trophies, set records and created legends. But another lesser-known name can rightly take a seat at their table.

Henry Nehrybecki was a mechanical master. This engineer, designer and constructor left his imprint on various notable sports cars and racing cars between the 1960s and 1980s and he even established his own marque along the way.

He became a chassis specialist focused on design, fabrication and development when he returned to Australia in 1961 after working on sports cars and open-wheelers at Eric Broadley’s Lola team in England.

“There wasn’t much my father couldn’t design, make or repair,” says his son, Meon. “He worked during that golden time in Australian motorsport when everyone, from famous names like Jack Brabham and Phil Irving to weekend enthusiasts in backyard garages, could make pretty much anything needed to build a racing car.”

This driven Sydney-sider established his own sports car marque, Lolita, during the mid-1960s. The name wasn’t derived from Nabakov’s novel but instead took inspiration from his time at Lola. His Lolita Mk1 used a rear-mounted Cooper S engine and the Lolita Mk2 further developed his independent ideas. Both were lightweight, precise and quick. He also developed the V6-powered Chimera, a 2+2 sports coupé. All of his cars were beautifully crafted.

Henry also conceived fast racing machines for many famous names. Among them was the mid-engine Holden LH Torana Sports Sedan, which he developed with Colin Bond for the Holden Dealer Team (HDT) during the mid-1970s. Driven by Brock, Harrop and Bond, this one-off beast used open-wheeler principles and a rose-jointed, double-wishbone rear suspension to harness the power of its Repco Holden F5000 engine.

But the record books confirm Henry’s most successful work was on the Repco Brabham-powered Matich SR4 sports racing car. His engineering input into its chassis and suspension helped make this famous blue streak a dominant force on the track.

Speaking of famous, supercar aficionados know the Nehrybecki name is entwined with many European brands, in particular Lamborghini. For a period of time Henry was an official Australian distributor and service agent for the Italian marque.

“Whether it was pre-delivering new vehicles or major repairs or full restorations, my father did them all,” Meon says. Even today, it’s common to find a Lolita Automobile Developments sticker on a locally delivered Miura, Countach, Urraco or Silhouette, all of which are now prized collectibles. Exposure to such exotica meant it was no surprise his technically minded sons followed him into the family business. Meon and Jerome were bitten especially hard by the car bug. Both trained as mechanics under Henry and spent long periods working in Lamborghini’s Sant’Agata factory, spannering alongside nowfamous names such as Test Driver Valentino Balboni.

When Meon later decided to break out on his own he chose Mercedes-Benz, eventually becoming a dealer principal for one of its largest Sydney dealerships. It was during this time he pursued one of his favourite cars into circuit racing after many years as a rally driver.

“I managed to find the matching pair of 190 E Group A racing cars that competed at the 1986 Bathurst 1000,” he says. “Helmut Marko campaigned them under his RSM Marko team. Andrew Miedecke and Jörg van Ommen raced one of them and Denny Hulme drove the other with Franz Klammer. After I bought the pair I sold Andrew his ’86 car. He still owns it today.”

And the Denny Hulme car?

“I spent nine years restoring it. It was a ground-up, rotisserie restoration because the car is historically important. It’s one of the first 190 E Group A cars built by Mercedes-Benz, quite possibly the first.”

Like all good addictions, Meon couldn’t stop at just one.

“I later came across one of the last factory AMG DTM racers in Germany. It was built by Mercedes-Benz Motorsport for the 1991 season and ran in MS-Jet Racing’s yellow-and-white colours before returning to the factory team for ’92 as the T-car for Klaus Ludwig and Bernd Schnieder. Today, I race this ex-DTM car and my brother Jerome races the ex-Denny Hulme 190 E.”

The black-and-silver DTM racer is remarkably original, right down to its genuine SONAX livery. It even retains its original factory-made telemetry hardware. The level of works-racing craftsmanship is impressive, even 34 years on.

So, what’s the next chapter in this family racing affair?

“My son Mitchell will soon join us on the grid,” says Meon, who is in the middle of another Group A restoration project, this time his ex-factory TOM’S Racing Toyota Supra. “He will be the third generation in our family to go racing in Australia. It will be a special day when he completes his first race. I know his grandfather would be proud.”

Andrew Miedecke - March 763/76B

1981 Malaysian GP winner

This 1976 March Formula 3 was purchased in pieces by Andrew Miedecke in 1977 from an ad in Motoring news when he moved to England to further his Motor Racing career. The chassis was an ex Gunnar Nilsson 753 tub damaged in 1975 and repaired to form the basis for this car. Racing on a shoestring, and with the help of his good friend Bruce Cary Andrew showed impressive speed but no victories in the BRDC British Formula Three championship.

At the end of 1977, and flat broke, his friend Geoffrey Brabham introduced sponsorship from Rothmans to compete in that year’s Macau GP. That meant converting the March from Formula three configuration, with its narrow wheels and restricted Toyota engine to wide wheels, bigger wings and bodywork and a much more powerful Cosworth Formula Atlantic engine. Work that was carried out by Andrew and Australian race engineer Steve Farrell in Dave Price’s workshop in London. It was all done in time for a brief test at Goodwood and then shipped to Hong Kong. A rear wing failure within a lap of the finish meant a 3rd place finish behind Formula One driver Ricardo Patrese and NZ driver Steve Millen.

A move back to the southern hemisphere meant the March was raced extensively in NZ, Asia and Australia, winning many races and setting multiple lap records.

Although a new Ralt RT4 Formula Pacific had been ordered the March was taken to Malaysia for the Grand Prix in 1981 winning its biggest race in one its last events. It was then retired and stored in pieces in Andrews Ford dealership in Port Macquarie and later hung on the dealership wall!

At the urging of Malcolm Oastler early in 2024 the car was given to Mike Borland for a complete restoration. The 2025 Taupo GP is the first time that Andrew has raced the car for 44 years!

THE SALA DYNASTY

William Sala is one of the 3rd generation of the Sala family to race cars, with their Dandenong factory the location of multiple Matich Formula 5000s, as well as a diverse variety of customer race car projects.

William recalls, “My Grandpa got into racing Darracqs and other vintage cars, later having some drives in a F5000 at hillclimbs. At 14, Dad raced the F5000 at Mt Leura Hillclimb for his motorsport debut, then later won many races in a Lotus Cortina, then getting back into the F5000 and Ford Sierra.

“Grandpa suggested entering Bathurst 1000 to Dad, so he swapped two F5000s for a Ford Sierra in New Zealand. Dad raced the Sierra at Bathurst in 91 and 92, finishing 10th in 1991. Following a stint in Auscar and Nascar we kept both the Sierra and a F5000. Us boys came along and started go karting around 14 and 15, while starting to race two 1200cc Formula Vees and three Hyundai Excels. In early 2025 I got my first chance to drive a F5000. That was pretty exhilarating, with so much power under my right foot!

Definitely a dream come true.

“Driving the F5000 I was advised not to try and set a lap record, just drive to enjoy, learn and appreciate the car.

“Meanwhile I’m running an Excel in the Victorian Championships. This is my 5th year. Although I’d love to get into the F5000 whenever it’s allowed to run, even for sprints. Unfortunately, some of these cars are now in museums and collector’s garages, meaning we can’t always get full grids.

“We have three generations working in our factory, Grandpa, Dad and myself, working and helping whenever I can with general repair work, maintenance and restoration work on the Matichs and other race cars. I’m still learning. Being able to work on the cars to then race them gives me a huge understanding of how the car runs, giving me good knowledge on how to set the cars up at race tracks.

“The number of younger people in historic racing is dwindling. While racing these cars is easy for me due to their presence in my family, many younger racers lack access to historic cars. To bring more youth into the sport, I think clubs or car owners should make cars available for others to drive. It would require trust and clear boundaries on how the cars should be raced.”

This weekend at the Phillip Island Classic William has another opportunity to get behind the wheel of the family’s Matich A50, alongside father Bryan, racing a Lola T330/2

Built as a Formula Atlantic car (and still original) and almost the last Brabham created by Ron Tauranac at Motor Racing Developments (Brabham) - for the Formula Atlantic Yellow Pages series in the UK from 1971. First non-F1 Brabham with inboard rear brakes and wings, with early 16 valve engine. Restored by Dr Tim Kuchel (South Aust) and driven by Tim once in March 2019 at the Phillip Is. Classic and Tim won the last race. Tim died in 2019 and Wayne acquired no.35 from Tim's family. Tim and Wayne had raced their other cars in Historic F2 in Europe in 2015-16-17 at many of the famous circuits.

Competes in Australia in Group P as “wings with treaded tyres”. There are few such cars here and we are permitted to run with Groups M and O (1960’s pre-aero cars).

Wayne is the President of the HSRCA in NSW and competes in this car at Historic events in NSW, SA and Victoria. Wayne Wilson Driver Profile.

Started Historic Racing in 1997, from no previous motorsport experience, but with a teenager’s memory of watching Jack Brabham as our 3rd time Drivers Champion at the AGP at Warwick Farm in 1967. Cars owned have

been a Rennmax F2 with cross-flow Ford engine, a Brabham BT-29 (now in Adelaide) , a Brabham BT-21C with Ford Twin-cam which I took to Europe with a mate and his Brabham, where we competed at many famous circuits for 3 years, including Silverstone, Brands Hatch, Monza, Dijon, Spa-Francorchamps, Zandvoort and Le Mans.

The car entered here is a 1971 Brabham BT-35 Formula Atlantic with a 1600cc Ford BDA engine. This wonderful green and gold creation of Ron Tauranac was restored by Tim Kuchel in Adelaide in 2018-19 and Tim only drove it once – at Phillip Island, and it is raced in his memory.

I usually compete each year at all HSRCA events in NSW, at Phillip island, Mallala, The Bend, and Queensland Raceway- usually 7 or 8 race weekends each year.

Since 2020 I have held the role of President of the HSRCA of NSW, which promotes Historic Racing for all Motorsport Australia categories at Sydney Motorsport Park and One Raceway in Goulburn and we aim to attract more enthusiasts to our passion, and to enjoy the company of great friends on and off the track.

My car is a 1969 2L Alfa Romeo which had been built as a tarmac rally car prior to being converted for Group S some years ago by the previous owner. I bought the car in around 2020 and initially competed in Regilarity events before moving into Group S racing in 2023. I travel from Adelaide every year to compete at Phillip Island and Winton Festival of Speed as well as events in SA. At my last race at The Bend in 2025 I did some significant damage to the gearbox so I am hoping to have the car repaired and ready to run again at Phillip Island this year.

Harry & James purchased the car from Steve De Lissa in Warwick, Queensland. After competing in the 2022 Red Dust Revival at Lake Perkolilli in a 1932 model T, and seeing how well the Dodge specials were going around the clay pan, we decided we needed a two seater special for the 2025 Red Dust Revival.

Since being in Western Australia the Dodge has competed in many events, ranging from beach sprints in Dongara WA, to circuit and round the houses regularities.

To support the success of the Corolla AE86 RWD around the world, the newly formed Toyota Team Australia (TTA) ordered their first AE86 Hatch (TTA#1) from Toyota TRD Japan 1984 to contest the new international Group ‘A’ rules to race the James Hardie 1000 at Mt Panorama Bathurst.

In the years following two more Corolla AE86 coupes (TTA#2 / TTA#3) were ordered to develop a solid class leading team. This Chassis (TTA#3) was built in 6/1986 by the TRD Factory in Japan for the same assault at Mt Panaroma the that year and continued thru the 1987 Australian Touring car championship driven by John Smith. During 1987, the car was outclassed on numerous occasions by the stronger 2.0 ltr Nissan Gazelle driven by young gun Mark Skaife.

However whilst at Mt Panorama in 1987, both Corolla AE86 Coupes (Car 90 Driven by John Smith / Drew Price and Car 91 John Faulkner / Mike Quinn) ran faultlessly with the chassis leading the class until rain started across the mountain on lap 101, both the TTA cars crashed out together after going into skyline after fluid was left on the track from a car before them crashing

into the wall on the same lap and ending the campaign for the year whilst easily running 1 / 2 in their class.

With the arrival of the new generation FWD AE82’s (TTA # 3 & 4) in 1988, this chassis continued to race to support the winning results and ensured Toyota won the manufactures title. For the 1988 Bathurst Tooheys 1000, TTA entered one RWD and two FWD to ensure a class win. This Car #71 was raced by John Faulkner / Drew Price and took the chequered flag with a class win and a massive 9th outright placing.

This car was last raced in April 1989 at Oran Park, John Smith took this car to the track one last time to win the ATCC and another manufactures title for Toyota. The car was then retired after this race to pave way for the newer FWD AE82’s cars were now proving to be reliable and quick

Bill Robinson - 1977 Porsche 3.0 Carrera

TEAM Honeycutt Racing

Colour: Car is white with Red and Blue Stripes in the Brumos Porsche Colours. (more about this in my story).

The car was delivered new on 24/08/77 by Hamiltons of South Yarra to the first owner, a Dr Peter Ross of Hawthorn. The car passed through several owners until 2005 when it began its racing career. The car remained based in Victoria until 2015 when the then owner, Mr Greg Horwill took the car to Brisbane. Greg Campained the car in Group S until 2023 when I bought the car and moved it to NSW.

WILLIAM ROBINSON, KNOWN AS BILL.

I began racing go karts on a dirt race track in Darwin prior to Cyclone Tracy. The go Kart was built by me and my step-father Pete Honeycutt. Pete had raced Porsches in the USA and from a young age instilled a love of Porsche Cars in me. Pete was an aeronautical engineer and could make or fix anything. Following Cyclone Tracy auto racing in Darwin was somewhat limited and I raced boats. Then in the early 80's after a move to the USA I became involved in a little aeroplane competition and a lot of aerobatics. During the 1990's I became involved in auto racing again based from Jacksonville in Florida. Most of this was club racing and I was an enthusiastic member of the Florida Crown Region Porsche Club, a division of the Porsche Club of America.

The construction of this legendary historic racing car commenced in late 1938 by three friends Gib Barrett (brother of Alf Barrett), John White and Alan Ashton, thus the marque ‘BWA’ was born as acronym of their names. Curry and Richards Pty Ltd built the chassis from 16-gauge mild steel box sections. It was initially powered by a blown four cylinder 1 ½ Gough engine from Tim Joshua’s Fraser Nash that had been racing during the 1930s. The front suspension, brakes, steering box, gearbox and wheel hubs were sourced from a Seventh Series Lancia. The body was modified into a two-seater sports (Victorian registration ‘AY.186’) and at Bathurst in 1946 Gib (Julian Barrett) recorded fasted race time and later at Rob Roy, it took the class record. In 1949 Gib redesigned the car as a monoposto. At Bathurst in October 1951, it was the first under 1500cc car in two races, also recording 99.45mph on the straight. The car raced at the 1953 Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park by Alf and Gib and finished 12th overall. Gib took the car to Fishermen’s Bend in March 1954 and finished fourth and later that year won both the under 1500cc scratch race and third at the main event, the Fisherman’s Bend Trophy in October. The car was restored by Ron Townley in the late 1990’s and successfully campaigned the BWA for 20+ years. Current owner Paul Cooke bought the car from Ron and after some recommissioning, started entering in historic events in 2024.

After a move back to Australia in the early two thousands I was drawn back into racing by Pete Boylan (a very close friend of more than 50 years) and Geoff Morgan, also a close friend. They were racing Porsches and in Group S, so I bought a Red 1976 3.0 Carrera and joined them. Group S is made up of a great bunch of men and women and it was great fun. In 2018 I sold the car to Tony Richardson and he continued in Group S. I purchased a Howe TA2 Mustang and went racing in what was then a new series. In 2019 I came second in the Masters section (over 50) of the National TA2 Series. It was a great year of travel, racing and fun, then COVID hit, and everything stopped. I then decided to sell the car and I was not racing until 2023 when I bought this present car and rejoined Group S.

Now the car number and colour scheme have a special meaning to me. Brumos Porsche was located in Jacksonville Florida and I had an association with them dating back to the early 1980s when my parents bought a car from them. This continued with my association with them through the Porsche Club. Number 59 is a famous Porsche Number with Brumos having won the Daytona 24 hours in a 911 using the number 59 with the same colours. So this is my nod to the Brumos team which sadly is no longer.

The Team name, Honeycutt Racing is a nod to my Step Father, Peter Honeycutt who instilled a love of Porsches and racing in me. Sadly my step dad passed away in 1993, but the Team Name helps to keep his memory alive.

First log booked as Improved Production Sportscar 1967 by Bruce Tompson. Purchased by me 1971, flared guards and slicks off, and became my every drive to university and beyond,- including ski trips with chains! Body off restoration 1977, and log booked 1999 as Sa Historic Sportscar, and continually raced since then.

After years of (expensive ) development, it is now a reliable, powerful race car, becoming faster than its driver every day.

A lot of fun to drive

This is how my car was developed as Improved Production Sportscar, 1967, and how it was when I bought it

John Hardy - Alpine

Opposite lock around Honda at “the Island”.

My car is an early Group 4 full competition variant of the road car. It has a Marc Mignotet designed engine. Using the Renault 12 Gordini engine as a base, he upped the capacity to 1596cc from 1565cc to keep it in the under 1600cc class, increased compression from 10.25:1 to 11.3:1 and put a higher performance cam to increase power from 125hp to 170hp.

It has a close ratio 5 speed gearbox with a LSD and very short shift for selection and 4 wheel disc brakes. Weighing in at about 800 kg and a 2 turns lock to lock steering rack,it makes for an exhilarating driving experience!

Cars just like it won the podium at the 1971 Monte Carlo Rally and went on to dominate and win the European Rally Championship that year and two years later they repeated that performance winning the inaugural World Rally Championship. I have owned and used it in tarmac rallies, hillclimbs and historic racing for about 35 years.

Driver: Graeme Raper

Year Make and Model of Car: 1949 Ford Aussie Special Engine make and capacity: Ford Mercury 4480cc 1948 MONOSKATE (Silver/Blue): A Testament to Australian Ingenuity

The 1948 Monoskate is a striking example of Australian innovation and craftsmanship. Built by George Reed of Bathurst, NSW, Monoskate is one of four “Skates”-Ford V8 Specials-created by Reed during the 1940s in his multifaceted role as owner, builder, and driver. A replica of “The Red Skate” is proudly displayed at the Bathurst Motor Racing Museum, while “The White Skate” and “Monoskate” remain active on the track today, lovingly cared for by Graeme and Louise Raper.

The name “Monoskate” blends “monoposto” (single-seater) with “skate,” a nickname given to Reed’s cars due to their shortened chassis, which made them resemble roller skates.

Monoskate’s lineage dates back to 1939, when it first raced as the “Ben Tarr Rajo Ford Special” at Mount Panorama. It later evolved into the “Alec Mildren Ford V8 Special,” competing in the NSW Grand Prix at Bathurst in 1946 and 1947. In 1949, George Reed unveiled his final Aussie SpecialMonoskate-which went on to challenge imported European marques such as Alfa Romeo, Maserati, Alta, Bugatti, and Talbot-Lago at Bathurst and Mt Druitt.

Built on Ford Model A chassis rails, Monoskate features a split (independent) front end and a 4.5-litre Ford V8 engine producing approximately 180 bhp. It’s equipped with Offenhauser heads,

twin Stromberg carburettors, a Scintilla Vertex magneto, a close-ratio three-speed Ford gearbox, and a locked Ford differential. Other notable components include a circa-1924 brass FIAT tractor steering box, Ford hydraulic drum brakes, Armstrong lever-arm shock absorbers, 16-inch wheels, and its original hand-formed aluminium body-first shaped in 1939.

This car has serious grunt, capable of reaching 100 mph in second gear and topping out at 145 mph.

Monoskate boasts a long and storied career, with victories in circuit races, sprints, and hill climbs. George Reed raced it from 1948 through the late 1950s, followed by Ray Nottson. In 1977, the Reid family (unrelated to George) rediscovered and restored the car, racing it successfully for two decades. A full ground-up restoration was completed by Mal in 1998, and in 2003, Graeme Raper became its custodian.

Graeme has now raced Monoskate for over 20 years, consistently running at the front of the field in Group J & K historic racing. He also competes fiercely against Group L cars at events like Historic Winton and Historic Sandown. Together, Graeme and Monoskate hold lap records in their class at all major Victorian circuits-Sandown, Winton (long and short tracks), and Phillip Island. Not bad for a car with roots stretching back to 1939.

The White Skate or So-Cal. Engine make and capacity: Ford Side Valve V8 3920cc

So-Cal: A Historic Aussie Special. Built in 1947 by George Reed, the legendary So-Cal Ford V8 Special has been a staple of Australian motorsport for over 75 years. Featuring a shortened Ford chassis, Mercury V8 engine, Wilson pre-selector gearbox, Edelbrock heads, and a triple manifold setup, this meticulously developed racer was fine-tuned with input from SoCal Speed Shop’s Alex Xydias.

So-Cal boasts an impressive AGP pedigree, having competed in the 1952 and 1958 Australian Grand Prix at Mount Panorama, Bathurst. Raced continuously since its creation, it has been driven by some of Australia’s finest, including Frank Walters, who won the 1954 Racing Car Championship at Mt Druitt in it. Today, Louise Raper continues So-Cal’s legacy, competing in Historic events, Regularity trials, and Hill Climbs. In 2025, So-Cal returns to the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne, a celebration of its rich history and enduring racing spirit!

Henk Zwarteveen - MGB

Back in 2017 I joined seven MG-B’s for a 102 day road trip 27000 km’s from Bangkok to England through 17 countries.

Part of this trip were 3 very good friends. (Peter Rose, David Mottram and Michael Herlihy) On arrival back in Australia they suggested I should come and join them on the racing circuit with MG Racing. So early 2018 I purchased my 1964 Mark MG-B convertible racer. The car was converted in 1999 by MG Workshops into a racer. I love my time on the track and the camaraderie around it. Cheers, Henk Zwarteveen.

Only 21 Prosports were made between 1991-1995. The first owner of this example being chassis #11 built in 1993 & designated LM3000 was Bill Collins, father of Ben Collins the original Stig from Top Gear. Prosports competed both in a single make series in the UK & other Group C races including Le Mans & Daytona 24 Hours with a spyder version.

Approximately 15 Prosports are still known to exist with three examples in Australia. Chassis is an aluminium skinned steel tubed spaceframe & is powered by a Ford Cosworth FBE V6 3.00 litre, 24 valve mated to a Hewland FT200 five speed gearbox transaxle with LSD. Power is in the order of 300 BHP with a dry weight of 725kg.

Current owner is Graeme Hughes who acquired chassis #11 after it had undergone an extensive re-build in the UK. Motorsport ‘career’ started in the 1950’s & 60’s when my father competed in Around Australia Trials & entered a Ford Anglia in the last Armstrong 500 at Phillip Island in 1962. Started in go-karts in my 30’s, then 125cc superkarts before kids & divorces intervened. Crewed for the John Fitzpatrick #33 Skoal Bandit Porsche 956 at Sandown in 1984 (drivers Thierry Boutsen & David Hobbs). Resumed my motor racing journey in tarmac rallies early 2000’s, co-driving in Porsche GT3 in Targa Tasmania 2001 & five Classic Adelaide tarmac rallies co-driving with the late John Virgo in his 1965 Mustang. Acquired my own Ford Escort Mark 1 RS2000 & swapped to driver’s seat for another five Classic Adelaide rallies. Then acquired Royale RP37 Sports 2000 in 2012 & campaigned it until purchasing the Prosport in Jan 2020. I have been to the 24 Hours of Le Mans five times & visited major circuits in both the US & Europe.

Tammie Hotz - MG Midget Group S

Born into Motorsport my dad raced a variety of cars from a Bugeye Sprite, Nota Clubman, Morris Minor to a Milano GT Mk1 which is preserved in a private museum in Switzerland. From a very early age I was Motorsport crazy. It wasn’t until the mid 1990’s that my own Motorsport journey started in Sprint Kart racing in NSW. Racing in a ladies category then later in the Senior National Light, Clubman light and Sportsman classes.

An unfortunate accident on the iconic bridge at Oran Park put my racing on hold after a ride in the Westpac Rescue helicopter and a year or two to recover from severe whiplash. After quite a few years we brought an MX5 and competed in supersprints and 6 hour regularity events. I entered historic racing starting in regularity in the Midget with the transition into Group S once I was comfortable and confident in the car. I’ve been a competitor in Group S since 2022 and the only Lady currently racing in Group S.

Simon Meyer - MG Midget

Simon has been racing Group S since Mid-2014 where he started in Greg Prunster Mustard coloured Mk 3 Sprite affectionately known as Tigger due to it Black and mustard/orange colouring. The car was then developed over the following 5 years until it got to the point where it was giving a lot of the higher horsepower cars a run for their money. In 2019 the car was purchased from Greg Prunster and then reborn into the Silver car you see today which still keeps the Black and orange stipes as homage to its history and is now affectionally known as Tigger 2.0!

Tigger 2.0 is now a much more nimble car with Bob Rowntree preparing her to perfection, extracting more speed with some more fine tuning of the suspension and engine. Simon is now claiming a few lap records that his brother (Damien Meyer) once held.

Simon was crowned the 2020/2021 (spread over 2 years as both years

Shane Bowden - 1958-1960 Lolus

The Lolus is a period copy of the original Charlie Whatmore Lotus 11 built for John Everett. The chassis & fibreglass body were built by the Playcar Body Works of Bulimba, Brisbane. Originally constructed with an Austin A40 motor and gearbox, the front suspension is Standard Vanguard uprights with MGA disc brakes and a Morris minor rack & and pinion steering. The rear suspension is MGA. The Lolus was found to be too slow with the A40 motor and a Holden grey motor was installed in 1960. The engine was moved back in the spaceframe and a near 50/50 weight balance was achieved and good handling was expected. This proved to be evident in much more torque and horsepower with improved lap times at Lakeside.

Stuart Everett raced the Lolus at Lakeside and Lowood from 1961-64 with the only real success being a win in the division 2 scratch race of 14/07/1963 at Lakeside.

were Covid affected) winner of the Group S Presidents Cup which combines scores from all Group S categories and awards the prize to the overall Group S winner. This title also gives Simon the honour of running number 1 for the 2022 season. Simon also won the BMC challenge –Russel/Rowntree Trophy in 2019 at Eastern Creek.

In the 2020/2021 racing season Simon also walked away with the Win in Group Sba – Catalina Cup & Goldfields Cup.

Simon started racing Group S a number of years after his brother Damien Meyer (Car 13) and the 2 regularly annoy the faster HP cars, preferring the righter twisty tracks but still giving them a run for their money at Horse Power tracks like Phillip Island. Both Simon and Damien both grew up racing Karts and both have multiple State and National championships under their belts.

In 1964 Stuart Everett reluctantly decide to sell the car due to family and business commitments. A friend, Barry Arentz from Casino, had moved to Sydney to start a new motor business and it was agreed to take the Lolus to Sydney to sell. Barry sold the Lolus to John Mason of Sydney who road registered it but raced it only once. John owned the car from 1964 to 2006.

In 2006 it was sold to Warwick McBean who extensively historic raced it up until 2021 when I purchased the Lolus in between Covid lockdowns in Melbourne. It was at Dick O’Keefe’s home in Blackburn when we were in another lockdown and being bored Dick gave the car a birthday and rebuilt the suspension and brakes and generally tidied up the car. I have historic raced the Lolus while giving my 1958 PRAD Holden a rest for a refresh.

Craven Mild A9X Torana

Tony Sawford - Allan Grice Racing team

Craven Mild A9X Torana

This is one of 4 A9X Torana hatchbacks that Allan Grice Racing used from late 1977 to start of 1980. This car started as the car built for Grice in 1977 when A9X Torana was homologated to run that year and was campaigned by Allans team in the long distance race series at Sandown 400, Bathurst 1000, Adelaide 400, Surface paradise 400 and Phillip Island 400. It was also entered in the Baskerville Winfield challenge in 1977 at the very end of that year.

In 1978 the car was used in the touring car championship and then used as the spare car for the long distance races later that year.

In 1979 this car was used in the touring car championship and rotated with the car built in 1978 to share the racing load. In the last couple of rounds of the 1979 touring car championship Allan badly damaged both cars and they were both not able to be repaired in time for the long distance races. The team bought two other privateer racecars to replace the damage cars this one was the old Bonds Gotcha A9X Torana Hatchback. This car was repainted in Craven Mild colours and all the Allen Grice racing go fast bits were fitted and the car competed in the Sandown 400 and was in first place until a valve in the engine broke in the closing stages of that race which allowed Peter Brock to win the event.

This car then went onto race at Amaroo park two weeks before Bathurst and was used as the spare car #16 for Bathurst 1979. This car did qualify in the top 10 at Bathurst 1979 but as Craven Mild was only ever going to run one car in the race they put all there efforts into the other car # 6 for the top 10 shout out on the Saturday before the race and the 1000 km race on Sunday.

After the Bathurst race the car was sold as a road car and ran around the streets of Sydney for a few years and was then sold to a sports sedan racer in Canberra. He played with it for a little while and then sold it as a road car again and was driving around the streets of ACT for a short time.

I bought the car back in 2004 and brought the

car back to its 1979 Bathurst spec and have been racing it in as many historic races as I can get to and afford too.

I (Tony Sawford) have always had a huge interest in Australian touring car racing from the early 1970's especially HOLDEN and BROCK. I started my first real job at Graeme Blanchard Holden Dandenong in 1982 as an apprentice mechanic and finished there as workshop foreman. I then went no to Noel Gould / Baycity Holden in Frankston late in 1989 and worked up as high as Assistant service Manager. In 2002 I started at National Power steering which was bought out by Active power steering in 2014 and have been Victorian state manager at Active power steering for the last 5 years. I always wanted to race cars from a very young age but I could never afford to do so because general life commitments would get in the way. I met my wife end of 2000 and she was also interested in racing cars. We started club racing about 2002 in Heritage touring cars and apart from some enforced holidays (car damage) I have been doing as many races as I can afford.

Phillip Island would have to be the best track in Australia to race at (in my opinion) bar Bathurst and my best result was at Bathurst I came 1st out of all entry's group C and A in the last race of the weekend at the 2011 Bathurst 12 hour support race.

Always very happy to share that information with every one.

I am hoping to keep racing for as long as my body feels good and I have the money to support it.

Strauss - 1963

This was the second of five of this model manufactured in 1964 fitted with the Coventry Climax FPF 2.5-litre engine. It was purchased ex-factory by Bib Stillwell who won the 1965 Australian Drivers Championship Gold Star Award in this car. The car was then sold to well known former driver and team owner Alec Mildren and driven by successful Australian International Frank Gardner. The combination raced in both Australia and New Zealand events including the Tasman series including the Australian Grand Prix with wins and podium finishes. In 1966 it was loaned to Jackie Stewart for the Surfers Paradise race where he set the fastest lap. One other BT11A was raced extensively by Jack Brabham including a win in the

Grand Prix. The car was stored under a house in Auckland, New Zealand from the mid 1970’s until purchased in 2011 by the current owner Peter Strauss and totally restored. I have been racing the Brabham BT11 in most of the Australian M & O events. I have also been racing my Brabham BT6 in Europe.

Team Swinburne Formula SAE is a student-led motorsport team from Swinburne University of Technology.

The team, founded in 1999, allows for students across the entirety of the university to participate in crossdisciplinary collaboration and facilitates the practical application of theoretical classroom knowledge. Each year Team Swinburne Formula SAE strives to design, build, and compete a formulastyle electric racecar for the Formula SAE-A competition.

At the competition, the team competes against other university’s teams from across the country and internationally.

All of the teams are evaluated on vehicle performance, management processes, engineering design, and business operation through a series of dynamic and static events.

Currently the team is working towards building its first ever all-wheel drive electric racecar with hub motors, TS_22, in preparation for the 2022 Formula SAE-A competition.

This will make us only one of a few teams to have made the transition to building and competing an all-wheel drive electric racecar.

Team Swinburne Formula SAE is also in the process of completing our first ever autonomous racecar for competition, converting our 2019 contender TS_19, into an autonomous vehicle.

Prepared by Tachi Oiwa Motor Sports in Japan (TOMS) in late 1985/early 1986, this hand-built race car appears to have been originally raced in Japan & Macau under “leyton house” colors, being driven in some events by TOMS co-founder Nobuhide Tachi. Tachi had been a Toyota factory race driver prior to establishing TOMS 1975 along with Kiyoshi Oiwa, a Toyota dealership engineer.

Sometime after the November 1986 Macau race, the car was transferred to Toyota Team TOM’s (GB) to compete in races of the British & European Touring car championships. TOM’s had established a satellite business in England that planned to build engines for the local Formula 3 Series, but subsequently went on to be a major chassis and car builder in their own right.

This Corolla has never been “restored” but rather refurbished as needed with its originality retained wherever possible. It still carries many parts fitted by TOMS in 1986 and is probably one of the most travelled original Group A cars competing. The car has competed in Japan, Great Britain, France, New Zealand and almost every state of Australia.

Peter is intending to compete at several Heritage Touring Car events annually for the foreseeable future, returning this awesome little car to racetracks across the country. The Phillip Island Classic for 2025 will be the first time the car has raced at a major event outside of Qld since Bathurst 1993!

Don Dimitriadis - VL Commodore: The original car raced by Steve Reid and Trevor Ashby, the Lansvale Special, appears. This car ran in the Australian Touring Car Championship from 1987 to 1994. The car is presented in its 1988 spec and livery.

Its racing history includes:

1. Bathurst 1987-1989: Ashby and Reid

2. 1990: Donagher and Duquet

3. 1991-1992: Donagher and Donagher

4. 1993: Mason, Wilson, and McShane

5. 1994: Fancy and Cribbin

It is currently raced in Heritage Touring Cars Historics at various tracks throughout Australia.
