Jesus said, “he who believes in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live..” John 11:25-26. Death is not the end; it is the beginning of eternal life. On Sunday April 2, 2023, Dr. Brown began this life. Dr. Brown was born June 24, 1932, in Pensacola FL to the late Robert Green and Annie Brown Pate. He accepted Christ as his personal savior at an early age at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. He attended Bethel Baptist Church in Tallahassee, FL. Upon relocating to Pensacola, FL, he reunited with Antioch Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorage of Dr. Nathaniel Smith. He was later appointed the chairperson of the Dr. Nathaniel Smith scholarship committee. He served faithfully until his health began to fail.

Dr. Brown attended public schools in Escambia County and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1949. He attended and graduated from Florida A&M University, Tallahassee Florida in 1954 with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Science (Physics). He further studied at Brooklyn College, and the University of Oklahoma. He later earned a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership with certifcations in Mathematics, Science, Administration, Supervision and Curriculum from Florida A&M University. In 1975, he received the Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Educational Management Systems from Florida State University.

While pursuing his PHD at Florida State University, Dr. Brown was appointed interim principal of the Developmental Research School (DRS). In addition, Dr. Brown was subsequently promoted to associate professor and principal of the school. He taught graduate courses in administration and supervision for the Florida State College of Education.

Following thirteen years of service at Florida State University, Dr. Brown was chosen Director of Florida A&M University Developmental Research School. Dr. Brown was appointed by the Commissioner of Education to the advisory committee on state assessment and served on review teams to refne test items on the Florida Educational Leadership Examination. He is published in National Journals, including the middle school journal and clearing house journal and was recipient of the fellowships sponsored by the Kellog and National Science Foundations.

Dr. Brown served as an educator in the Escambia County, Florida School System for more than a decade. Following several years as a Mathematics and Science teacher, he was appointed principal of N.B. Cook Elementary School. During his tenure, the school was chosen as a Demonstration Training School, one of several federally funded research and development centers throughout the country. In addition to coordinating individually prescribed instruction, the school offered training to other schools attempting to individualize instruction.

Dr. Brown served in the U.S. Army from May 17, 1955 – May 16, 1957. He was in special services and received an honorable discharge. Dr. Brown’s hobbies and interests included golf, sports, music and reading. He was a member of the Florida A&M University Marching 100 Band. In addition, Dr. Brown was a lifetime alumni member of KAPPA ALPHA PSi Fraternity. He was also a member of SIGMA PI PHI Fraternity, Delta PI Boule’.

Dr. Brown is preceded in transition by his Sisters, Regina Howard, Mary Alice McKee, Brothers, Robert Green, Guy Green, and DeVaughn Green. Niece, Constance Walker and Nephew, Jerome Lee. Dr. Brown leaves to cherish his loving memories to his Wife, Wanda Brown, two Sons, Terrance Ishmael and Preston Washington, Overland Park KS. Stepsons, Mark Wells and Bobby Wells, Tallahassee FL. Grandsons, Brandon Wells, Tallahassee FL, Isaiah Washington, New Orleans LA, and Darrien Taylor, Overland Park KS, Sister-in-law, Beverly Dozier of Norristown PA, Brother-in-law, Wayne (Rhunette) Wells, St. Petersburg, FL. In addition, Dr. Brown is survived by the following Nieces, Anita Sigler, Cynthia (James) Louis, Carol (Barry) Archie, all of Pensacola FL, Veronica (Wallace) Jackson, Fort Worth TX, Teresa Robinson, Cocoa FL, Annette (Steve) Williams, Lutz FL, and Kim Green, Pensacola FL. Nephews, Wayne Green and Anthony (Merion) Green, Pensacola FL and Eric Green, Lawrenceville GA. In addition, he leaves a special Great Niece, Kimberly Warren, and a plethora of relatives and friends.
