Increíblemente estamos en el número de verano del año 2021, y los días parecieran pasar con una fluidez impresionante. A pesar del encierro, de la pandemia, de la desaceleración forzosa de nuestras vidas y de la economía, los días siguen transcurriendo.

Incredibly, we are already in the summer issue of 2021. Time seems to pass with an impressive fluidity. Despite the confinement, the pandemic, the forced slowdown of our lives and the economy, the days continue to go by.

uizá una de las actividades recurrentes durante estos días ha sido el replanteamiento del futuro, la aceptación y el entendimiento de un rumbo diferente e inminente en nuestras actividades. Porque la única constante que estamos viviendo, es precisamente el cambio.

ne recurring activity during these days has been the rethinking of the future, the acceptance and understanding of a different and imminent course in our activities.

Because, if one thing is certain, change is the only constant in our lives.

Se percibe intesamente la necesidad de salir del encierro, de reconectar con amigos, familiares y actividades, pero con una actitud renovada, reinventada.

The daily need to get out of confinement, to reconnect with friends, family and activities, with a renewed and reinvented attitude is felt more deeply.

Lo anterior me recuerda a un movimiento fundado en los años ochenta por Carlo Petrini llamado "slow food".

El propósito era defender las tradiciones regionales, la buena comida, los placeres gastronómicos y, en general, las ventajas que se obtienen de un ritmo de vida lento y organizado.

The above reminds me of a movement founded in the eighties by Carlo Petrini called "slow food."

The purpose was to defend regional traditions, good food, gastronomic pleasures and, in general, the advantages obtained from a slow and organized rhythm of life.

Es bien sabido, porque lo hemos leído y escuchado en todas partes, que uno de los sectores más afectados por esta pandemia son los servicios y, obviamente, el turismo es un ejemplo perfecto. Es quizás donde veremos más cambios que nos beneficiarán a todos, ya que se pretende reforzar la experiencia de viajar, más que el simple hecho de visitar lugares diferentes.

Es decir, el enriquecimiento personal al apreciar con todos los sentidos tiende a convertirse en la razón de promover un destino en particular, buscando estancias más largas en espacios al aire libre con alternativas satélites en vez de recorrer una multitud de lugares en poco tiempo. Será una especie de “slow travel” donde la sensación de escape empezará desde la planeación cuidadosa de los detalles.

It is well known, because we have read and heard it everywhere, that one of the sectors most affected by this pandemic is services and, obviously, tourism is a perfect example. It is perhaps where we will see more changes that will benefit us all, since it is intended to reinforce the experience of traveling, more than the simple fact of showing up in different places. In other words, being able to appreciate something with all the senses tends to become the reason for promoting a particular destination, looking for longer stays in outdoor spaces with satellite alternatives instead of visiting a multitude of places over a short period of time.

It will be a kind of "slow travel" applied to various activities, where the feeling of escape will start from the careful planning of the details.

Es difícil imaginar en este momento un museo con sus salas llenas de gente o grupos caminando en interminables filas para observar de cerca una obra de arte. Asimismo, es improbable que a corto plazo se autoricen conciertos o espacios donde se permitan grandes concentraciones de personas. Y nos hace pensar en cuál será la visión del turismo a corto plazo.

Viajar es una necesidad humana, pero hacer turismo no es necesariamente una actividad que requiera grandes cantidades de dinero. Más bien, es una actividad de imaginación, voluntad y capacidad organizativa.

Appreciating nature in its purest state is already a differential factor in various national and international destinations.

Today’s traveler spends time investigating the destination where he or she will travel. There will be a greater desire to invest as a second home or timeshare in destinations that have infrastructure and security as fundamental elements.

Right now, it is difficult to imagine a museum with rooms full of people or large groups in long lines closely observing a work of art. It is also unlikely that in the short term, concerts or gathering places will be authorized to allow large concentrations of people. Of course, that makes us think about what the vision of tourism will be in the short term.

Traveling is a human necessity but tourism isn’t necessarily an activity that requires large amounts of money. Rather, it is an activity of imagination, will and organizational capacity.

Para esta edición de verano, ir a hacer La Entrevista a un oasis con tanta historia por contar como Todos Santos, nos daba una perspectiva diferente. El punto de reunión fue Santaterra, allí conoceríamos el área de bienestar Soulterra que está en obra.

For the summer edition, conducting The Interview in an oasis with as much history to share as Todos Santos gave us a different perspective. The meeting place was Santaterra where we discovered the Soulterra wellness project under construction.

A la llegada había una producción fotográfica del menú de Oysterra. El chef Poncho Cadena con su carisma y entusiasmo innatos dirigía la coordinación de platillos.

Encontramos también disfrutando de este nuevo espacio algunas bloggers mexicanas como: Pau Zurita, Pam Allier y Fer Millan. Nos dimos cuenta de que, ¡Todos Santos tiene magia para todos!

When we arrived, there was a photographic production of the Oysterra menu. Chef Poncho Cadena, with his innate charm and enthusiasm, directed the coordination of dishes. We also found the Mexican bloggers Pau Zurita, Pam Allier and Fer Millan enjoying the new space. It quickly became clear that the magic of Todos Santos is for everyone!

Meeting Christopher Roberts, the mastermind behind Soulterra, is a gateway towards awakening consciousness and well-being, and keeping us in the present moment.

Para el fundador de este jardín, la autenticidad y la verdad radical representan una búsqueda constante.

Descalzo y sentado sobre el pasto cubierto de rocío, Christopher nos habla acerca de la importancia de reconectar con nuestras raíces. Mientras las aves, los árboles y el viento entonaban su propia melodía.

The founder of this wellness garden is in a constant search for authenticity and radical truth. Barefoot and sitting on the dew-covered grass, Christopher spoke with us about the importance of reconnecting with our roots, while the birds, the trees and the wind sang their own melody around us.

Desde la perspectiva de Christopher, lo que sucede en el exterior nace en el interior de cada ser, por lo que es importante mantener un diálogo interno para descubrir nuestras áreas de oportunidad y mejorar constantemente.

La curiosidad por explorar el mundo a través de todos los sentidos es clave para seguir desarrollando una esencia propia y auténtica. Nos compartió que el viaje más largo de una persona es de la cabeza al corazón, encontrar la conexión del pensamiento con la voluntad y el sentimiento.

From Christopher’s perspective, what happens on the outside is born on the inside of each of us. It is important to maintain an internal dialogue to discover our areas of opportunity and constantly improve them. The curiosity to explore the world through all the senses is key to developing a personal and authentic essence. He also shared that the longest journey for a person is from the head to the heart. In other words, finding the connection of thought and will to feeling.

Soulterra es un tributo a la tierra y el alma. Es un lugar para que todos vivan su propia verdad radical —tal como su embajador lo hace—, y encontrar un puente hacia el despertar de la consciencia en armonía con la naturaleza.

The project is a tribute to the land and the soul. It is a place for everyone to live their own radical truth — just as the ambassador does — and find a bridge to awakening consciousness in harmony with nature.

Lo más sobresaliente de la cocina es la fusión de ingredientes y sabores creada por el chef Nobu, que aprendió viviendo en Perú durante unos años. No pudo encontrar muchos de los ingredientes que daba por sentado en Japón y tuvo que improvisar. Fue donde desarrolló su estilo único de cocina que incorpora ingredientes peruanos en recetas japonesas.

What’s most outstanding about the cuisine is the fusion of ingredients and flavors created by the chef, something he learned while living in Peru for a few years. He couldn't find many of the ingredients that he took for granted in Japan and had to improvise.

It was here that he developed his unique style of cooking which incorporates Peruvian ingredients into Japanese dishes.

El nuevo restaurante que abrió sus puertas a finales de febrero es una propuesta gastronómica moderna y tradicional a la vez, creada por el Chef Ejecutivo Paolo Della Corte. Ardea es un espacio con un ambiente contemporáneo, acogedor e interesante tanto en su decoración como en la música de DJ. El menú de estilo italiano inspirado en las raíces del chef incluye una selección de pizzas al horno de leña y cortes de carne de primera calidad, pastas artesanales, embutidos, una amplia variedad de quesos y opciones para veganos y amantes de los mariscos.

The new restaurant opened at the end of February.

Executive Chef Paolo Della Corte has created a dining experience that is both modern and traditional. Ardea features a contemporary, cozy and interesting atmosphere both in its decor and DJ music. The Italian-style menu inspired by the chef's roots includes a selection of woodfired pizzas and prime cuts of meat, artisanal pasta, charcuterie, a wide variety of cheeses, and options for vegans and seafood lovers.

Para acompañar el menú con un maridaje perfecto, la carta de vinos tiene etiquetas de varias casas vinícolas y, por supuesto, la mixología que no puede faltar. Adicionalmente, está la zona del Sports Bar para disfrutar —antes o después de su cena— una cerveza artesanal, cócteles y un menú de aperitivos inspirado en el mismo concepto de cocina.

To accompany the menu with a perfect pairing, the wine list features labels from a number of wineries. And let’s not forget the innovative mixology! On top of that, there’s a Sports Bar to enjoy before or after dinner with craft beers, cocktails and snacks.

Recorrer la Carretera Transpeninsular en viajes de 5 días o más, maravillándose del patrimonio turístico natural y cultural. Esta tierra perfumada posee una infinidad de circuitos turísticos, tales como: ruta del desierto para vehículos todo terreno, misiones jesuitas, zonas de arte rupestre, islas, islotes y bahías, cocina regional, solo por mencionar recorridos tradicionales. Pero también tenemos otros más de aventura o misteriosos, como encontrar la ubicación de los vestigios de misiones, los cánticos del desierto, de las ballenas o del mar, son un atractivo turístico.

Baja California es un paraíso rodeado de mar, pero también tiene el Camino Real que en un momento unió la Alta y Baja California. Este recorrido no es nuevo para los viajeros. Desde los años 50 del norte de California salían aventureros a la conquista de la península, es la famosa época del motor home, que todavía perdura, aunque en menor escala.

What can independent learners or educational institutions do in the Baja California peninsula?

Travel the Transpeninsular Highway on trips of five days or more, marveling at the natural and cultural heritage. This scented land has an infinity of tourist circuits, such as the desert route, Jesuit missions, rock art areas, islands, islets and bays, and regional cuisine, just to mention some traditional routes. De veras, no queremos ser presumidos aquí en la tierra de los pericúes, guaycuras y cochimíes, pero tenemos grupos y clubes de todo, desde Leones y Rotarios, Shriners, unos treinta clubes de golf, un club exclusivo de béisbol en Chileno, asociaciones científicas como el Centro de Estudios Integrales de Innovación y el Territorio o la Revista Científica del ITES, asociaciones paleontológicas, espeleológicas y de Historia Natural, de Arqueología, de Geología de observaciones de Aves y ornitológicas como la que dirige el maestro Emer García de la Universidad Autónoma de Baja California Sur, clubes de rock y, tal vez lo principal: tenemos un centenar de agrupaciones filantrópicas, humanitarias y de servicio social.

Una de las más importantes la Asociación de Hoteles de Los Cabos.

Tenemos clubes de yates, clubes de paracaidismo deportivo, de padres de familia, de ejidatarios, de obreros y campesinos, de desarrolladores inmobiliarios y bienes raíces, de autismo, de becas, de ambientalistas, de cazadores, de abogados, de bicicleteros, de motociclistas, Cámara de Comercio, o protectores de las tortugas y las canófilas o de contadores como IMEF o las fantásticas de surf o de kite surf. Por cierto, si quiere llevar a sus niños a aprender a surfear pregunte por Checo en la famosa taquería del Ahorcado. ¡Incluso tenemos clubes de viejitos de 30 años en adelante!

A partir de ese primer intento de “conquista”, se registran algunos otros intentos más por diferentes personas en los 160 años posteriores, sin que se lograra crear un asentamiento humano permanente que diera pie a la colonización de California, hasta 1697, año en que el padre Juan María de Salvatierra S. J. encabezó la creación de la primera misión permanente en Loreto, misión que a la postre se convirtió en la madre de las misiones Californianas, a través de las cuales se logró anexar a la Nueva España la península Californiana, y tiempo después, una enorme extensión de tierras al norte de la misma, que formó parte de California y que en 1777 se denominó Nueva California, o Alta California, y que simultáneamente originó que la California original, la peninsular, se empezara a llamar Antigua California o Baja California, para diferenciar claramente una región de la otra.

Mi primer acercamiento a La Candelaria My relationship with La Candelaria Cuando llegó mi padre a Cabo San Lucas, conoció el pueblo y se enamoró del puerto. Un tío lo animó a venir a trabajar y darse la oportunidad de ver otros horizontes. Lo demás es historia. Mi padre decidió regresar a Acapulco por nosotros, y nos mudamos con él, mi mamá y los hijos que aún vivíamos en casa.

Su oficio era albañil y, en aquel tiempo, lo contrataron para la construcción de la iglesia de La Candelaria. Tenía interés por saber más de mi padre y su trabajo, así que hace algunos años visité el pueblo. Caminé por las huertas y unas personas muy amables nos permitieron entrar. Casualmente, conocieron a mi padre, es fácil recordarlo, le apodaban “El Gallazo”. Todavía estoy investigando qué parte de la iglesia construyó. Algunos dicen que los muros, otros que el techo, otros que toda la iglesia. Aún sigo indagando.

Después de varios años, regresé y vi que La Candelaria que recordaba ya no era la misma. Recuerdo las cocinas – como la que estás viendo – porque en las construcciones utilizaban palapa, palo de arco, carrizo; también había muchos niños y personas en los alrededores.

After the Odile hurricane in 2014 there were many losses, including houses that were destroyed. The houses that were rebuilt were small block houses with tin roofs. As time went on, I made more friends, met more families.

Hoy habló más. Antes platicábamos y siempre estaba de buen humor. Tocaba el acordeón y nos echábamos unas cancioncitas. Hay una canción, que le gusta mucho, que le cantaba a su esposa. “Tengo un libro vacío y lo voy a empezar”.

Siempre estaba de buen humor.

Digamos que tenemos una amistad muy fuerte. En realidad, trato de venir diario a esta casa, pero más por verlo a él, por traerle un poco de alegría diciéndole chistes.

Desafortunadamente, se ha convertido en una persona triste.

Californian Literature Sobre la autora Reyna Jaime Félix es Historiadora de Arte por la Universidad de las Américas en Puebla y maestra en Enseñanza de la Historia por el Instituto Nacional de Estudios Históricos de las Revoluciones de México (INEHRM).

Ha trabajado en el análisis socio histórico del arte conceptual mexicano en la década de los 70, tema sobre el cual ha escrito e impartido conferencias. Su obra de investigación en el campo de las artes y la historia de Baja California Sur se encuentra publicado en: Teatro Juárez, 1910-2010 (isc, 2012), Apuntes para una Historia de las Artes Visuales Sudcalifornianas (ISC, 2015) y en revistas culturales locales.

La autora fue becaria del Programa de Estímulos para la Creación y el Desarrollo Artístico 2009 y 2013; y del Programa de Apoyo a las Culturas Municipales y Comunitarias en 2015. Es facilitadora voluntaria del programa nacional Salas de Lectura. Codirige Asociación Parcela Cultural dedicada a la promoción de las artes y la lectura. Actualmente, se dedica a la investigación de temas de historia regional y a la docencia.

About the author Reyna Jaime Felix is an Art Historian at the University of the Americas in Puebla and an instructor at the National Institute for Historical Studies of the Revolutions of Mexico (INEHRM).

She worked on the socio-historical analysis of Mexican conceptual art in the 1970s, a subject on which she has written and lectured. Her research work in the field of the art and history of Baja California Sur is published in Teatro Juárez, 19102010 (isc, 2012), Apuntes para una Historia de las Artes Visuales Sudcalifornianas (ISC, 2015) and in local cultural magazines.

The author was a fellow in the Incentive Program for Artistic Creation and Development 2009 and 2013 and the Support Program for Municipal and Community Cultures in 2015. She is a volunteer facilitator of the national program Reading Rooms and co-directs the Parcela Cultural Association dedicated to the promotion of the arts and reading. Reyna Jaime Felix is currently dedicated to researching regional history issues and teaching.

El mango es uno de los protagonistas del verano en Los Cabos. La delegación de Santiago es uno de los principales productores de esta deliciosa fruta en Baja California Sur. Cada año en el mes de julio las fiestas patronales de Santiago inician con su tradicional Feria del Mango.

Para esta ocasión, recomendamos la receta de un postre elaborado con esta dulce estrella estival. ¡Disfrútala!

Santiago town is one of the main producers of this delicious fruit. Each year, during the month of July, the traditional Santiago’s fest begins with the Mango fair.

Para el relleno: 220gr de queso crema 1 lata de leche condensada 4 mangos grandes, maduros y pelados 1 sobre de grenetina 1/4 taza de agua fría Rajas de mango para adorno Crema batida

Filling: 8 oz cream cheese 1 can condensed milk 4 large, ripe and peeled mangoes 1 envelope of unflavored gelatin 1/4 cup cold water Mango slices for garnish Whipped cream

Preparación: 1. Hidrata la grenetina en el agua.

2. Licúa el queso, las leches, pulpa del mango y grenetina.

3. Vierte la mezcla a la costra hasta que llegue al ras.

4. Refrigera hasta que la mezcla cuaje.

5. Decora a tu gusto con crema batida y rajas de mango.

Preparation: 1. Mix the unflavored gelatin in the water.

2. Blend the cheese, milk, mango and gelatin.

3. Pour the mixture into the crust just about to the top of each tartlet.

4. Refrigerate until mixture is set.

5. Decorate to your liking with whipped cream and mango slices Tip: You can make your own homemade crust with 12 ounces of crushed Nilla Vanilla wafers mixed with three ounces of butter. Press into the mold to a thickness of approximately a quarter inch.

Lejos están los días en los que podías continuar la rutina mientras estabas resfriado.

Additionally, when it comes to travel and group activities, the focus on health and safety has redefined the way meetings and incentive travel will be conducted. This is a fact that hoteliers and service providers alike must address in a timely and proactive manner for the speedy recovery of this market segment.

According to the results of a survey conducted in April of this year by Global DMC Partners, a leading company in the incentive travel and meetings segment, 70 percent of the leading executives of companies dedicated to organizing group and incentive travel estimate that they will be holding face-to-face events by the fourth quarter of this year.

Curiosamente, se estima que el 75% de estos grupos realizarán eventos que incluyan versiones híbridas en los que será indispensable contar con la tecnología necesaria para llevar a cabo sesiones con participantes remotos. The SITE survey, which gathered the opinions of meetings and incentive travel group experts, showed in its most recent results from the end of March of this year that 59 percent of the leaders in the industry who participated in this survey estimate that events in international destinations, such as Los Cabos, will be conducted by the fourth quarter of this year. Un elemento que también se cree de gran relevancia entre los organizadores, y que se define como un diferenciador en el mercado de eventos, será la disponibilidad de espacios al aire libre que permitan la socialización con una continua percepción de distanciamiento social y un apego claro y visible a los protocolos sanitarios que se establecieron durante el 2020.

Finalmente, a medida que más personas reciben la vacuna y disminuyen las tasas de infección por COVID-19, aumenta la confianza y el interés en viajar. A medida que aumentan los viajes, los expertos en viajes grupales comentan que para los organizadores el factor más importante a la hora de decidir dónde realizar el evento será la capacidad de gestionar los riesgos en términos de seguridad. La buena noticia es que en Los Cabos la industria de la hospitalidad está consciente de ello y han adquirido las certificaciones sanitarias “Punto Limpio”. Ahora el desafío es estar a la vanguardia en cuanto a las opciones tecnológicas disponibles para satisfacer las necesidades de conexión, comunicación e interactividad de los grupos que elijan nuestro destino como ideal para su próximo evento. Todo apunta a que los eventos híbridos con participantes presenciales y virtuales serán la norma y no la excepción en los próximos años.

Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de Fátima

Caduaño Esta comunidad de aproximadamente 700 habitantes se ubica al norte del municipio de Los Cabos. Su nombre hace referencia a las palabras “Cañada Verde”, en la lengua de los primeros pobladores sudcalifornianos.

La ganadería y la agricultura son las principales actividades económicas de sus pobladores, por lo que durante tu viaje estarás rodeado de plantas y árboles endémicos.

Te recomendamos ir con tu cámara lista, los colores y tamaños de la flora del lugar te inspirarán a capturar imágenes irrepetibles, también distintas aves, vacas y otros animales aparecerán donde menos te lo esperes.

No te vayas sin visitar el misterioso “árbol de fuego”, un longevo ejemplar en el llamado Camino del Bosque. Puedes acceder a esta vía desde la carretera transpeninsular, o siguiendo la calle principal del poblado. Quedarás fascinado mientras más te adentres en la vegetación.

You can access the road from the Transpeninsular highway, or by following the main street in the village. The deeper you go into the vegetation, the more fascinated you will be.

Huertos y granjas comercializan alimentos como repollo, cilantro, maíz, albahaca, pollo y huevo. También encontrarás productores de queso, quienes utilizan un método ancestral en el proceso de elaboración.

El Ranchito cuenta con algunos cuerpos de agua escondidos entre la vegetación, como “El Aguajito” donde no solo podrás refrescarte y pasar un día en familia, sino también admirar los pececitos que nadan tranquilamente entre el agua cristalina.

Cambiando el Mundo, un Niño a la Vez

Changing the world, one child at a time

Aceptamos un desafío en el 2020 para involucrarnos y conocer de primera mano el quehacer de diversas fundaciones en Baja California Sur. De esta forma podríamos obtener mejor información para difundir sus objetivos en la sección de Pisando Firme. En esta ocasión contactamos a Laura Bueno, amiga y colaboradora de Tendencia quien es miembro del Consejo Directivo de Los Cabos Children’s Foundation.

Posteriormente, ante nuestro interés, Marisa Comella, directora ejecutiva, nos invitó a una visita guiada al Hospital General con Especialidades Juan María de Salvatierra en la ciudad de La Paz. Aceptamos.

Así nos brindaron la oportunidad de conocer la historia detrás de una fundación que se ha enfocado durante 19 años a promover, fortalecer y potenciar programas de salud y bienestar que brinden a la niñez de Baja California Sur una mejor calidad de vida.

Todo inició cuando Tom Walsh tuvo la oportunidad de ayudar a Carlitos, quien fue diagnosticado con cáncer en Los Cabos. No imaginó la cadena de voluntades que iniciaría al darse cuenta de que no se contaban con los servicios médicos necesarios para atender a Carlitos, ni en la ciudad, ni en el estado. Sin embargo, no fue un impedimento para el tratamiento. El pequeño recibió atención médica en el Avera McKennan Hospital en Sioux Falls, Dakota del Sur, USA. Corría el año 2002 cuando empieza una organización que se conformaría más adelante como Los Cabos Children’s Foundation y asume la enorme tarea de fomentar la conciencia social y la generosidad para patrocinar a más niños con cáncer.

Diez años después, se inauguró el Centro Estatal de Oncología en el Hospital General con Especialidades Juan María de Salvatierra. Los Cabos Children’s Foundation intervino para conseguir su acreditación. Hasta la fecha, se han diagnosticado y atendido a más de 150 niños. El trabajo en equipo con esta y otras instituciones de carácter público y privado ha permitido proveer a los pacientes tratamientos nutricionales, de quimioterapia, antibióticos y antieméticos.

Rápidamente comprendimos por qué era importante que visitáramos el hospital.

Posteriormente, tuvimos la oportunidad de platicar con otro aliado contra el cáncer, el doctor Eduardo Altamirano Álvarez, oncólogo pediatra y jefe de la unidad de oncología pediátrica.

Durante nuestra conversación comentó: “Tener contacto con Los Cabos Chidren’s Foundation fue un hallazgo increíble.

Su capacidad humanitaria y visión han marcado una gran diferencia en la vida de los pacientes a lo largo de los años”.

We accepted a challenge in 2020 to get closely involved and dig deeper into the work of various foundations and to communicate their objectives in our Stand Strong articles.

On this occasion, we contacted Laura Bueno, a friend, collaborator and a member of the Los Cabos Children's Foundation Board of Directors.

Our story begins when Marisa Comella, executive director of Los Cabos Children’s Foundation, invited us on a guided tour to Salvatierra Hospital in La Paz. We accepted.

It gave us the opportunity to discover the story behind a foundation that has been focused for almost 20 years on promoting, strengthening and advancing health and wellness programs that provide the children of Baja California Sur with a better quality of life.

At one time, Tom Walsh had the chance to sought help for Carlitos who had been diagnosed with cancer in Los Cabos. Tom could not imagine the chain of events he would set off when he realized the necessary medical services were not available in Los Cabos to treat the boy, not in the city and not in the state. However, it was not an impediment to get the treatment. The little boy received medical attention at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, USA. The year was 2002 and an organization that would later become Los Cabos Children’s Foundation began to fill the void and take on the enormous task of promoting social awareness and the sponsorship of children with cancer.

Ten years later, the State Oncology Center opened as one of the specialties at the Juan Maria de Salvatierra General Hospital. Los Cabos Children’s Foundation stepped in to get accreditation. To date, more than 150 children have been diagnosed and treated. Teamwork between the hospital, foundation and other public and private institutions has made it possible to provide patients with correct nutrition, chemotherapy, antibiotics and other necessary treatments.

We quickly understood why it was important for us to join the hospital family.

Later, we had the opportunity to speak with another ally against cancer, Dr. Eduardo Altamirano Alvarez, pediatric oncologist and head of the pediatric oncology unit. During our conversation, he commented, “Los Cabos Children’s Foundation was an incredible discovery. Their humanitarian capacity and vision have made a huge difference in the lives of our patients over the years."

Una de las responsabilidades de la unidad de oncología pediátrica consiste en formar un gran equipo de terapeutas que buscan mantener la sonrisa y el bienestar de los niños durante su hospitalización.

A responsibility of the pediatric oncology unit is to build a team of therapists who focus on the well-being of children during their hospitalization. A smile has never been more important.

Los Cabos Children’s Foundation actúa en programas enfocados en la salud y el bienestar de los niños en Baja California Sur. Opera gracias a los donativos que suplen las necesidades médicas de patologías como la oncología.

También teje una red de soporte para los pacientes y padres, acompañándolos física y psicológicamente en el tratamiento de los pequeños.

Private contributions provide the necessary funds for pathology treatments, such as oncology. The foundation also weaves a support network for children and parents, accompanying them physically and psychologically throughout the treatment process.

Over almost 20 years, a specialized team has been added in areas that are dedicated full time to the programs, supplies and training of the personnel involved in each case.
