B’nai Mitzvah Harrison A. Stone
Avery Palmer
I am going into 7th grade at El Rodeo. I like playing basketball, football, soccer, and hanging out with my friends. My parents are Scott Stone and Gary Brown. I have a younger sibling named Ethan, who is 10.
My parents Patty and Isaac, along with my older sisters Dora and Bea, are really excited to watch me lead the service and read from the Torah. I also have a large, extended family that reaches all the way around the world, so I will have relatives from New York, Massachusetts, and even Melbourne, Australia here to celebrate with me.
November 8
For my Mitzvah project I will be collecting money to donate to Innovation: Africa, a Jewish organization that uses Israeli technology to help people in Africa. They install solar panels in small villages without electricity so that they have light, clean water, drip irrigation systems, and refrigeration for medicine. This organization has saved thousands of lives in Africa and will save countless more in the years to come, and in the process they promote good feelings about Israel. I would like to thank Rabbi Geller, Cantor Kliger, Jeff Madger, Lynn Franklin, and Lizzie Weiss for helping me prepare for my Bar Mitzvah.
November 15
I just started junior high school at Campbell Hall, where I am playing tackle football and also learning to play alto saxophone. I love trying new things: I taught myself to ride a unicycle last year, and I’m also working on improving my skateboarding. I have always been into sports, so I wanted to find a way to help disadvantaged kids play the sports they like. For my mitzvah project, I have become a Collection Leader for the organization Sports Gift, which gathers gently used and new sporting equipment, such as cleats, helmets, jerseys, bats, golf clubs, lacrosse sticks, etc. to distribute to kids in need around Los Angeles. I know this will be a very rewarding project for me personally so I’m very excited about beginning it. It is especially exciting for me to have my bar mitzvah at Temple Emanuel because I went to preschool here. I have fun memories of everything from playing on Clark Yard to making holiday crafts my parents still display in our home, to being “Shabbat boy” and learning all those fun songs my sisters and I still remember. I’d like to thank my entire family for supporting me as I prepare for and celebrate my special day. I’d also like to thank Rabbi Geller, Cantor Kliger, Lizzie Weiss, Perry Oretzky, and Jeff Magder for their help and support.
