Each spring, over 100 bright faces enter the city limits of Temple,Texas…and also enter a residency or fellowship program at Baylor Scott & White Health. Some are single, looking for prime shopping and nightlife, while others arrive with families looking for fun water parks and day cares. In every case, the next few years will determine if they choose to make this area home, even after their program has completed. That knowledge was what sparked the idea of a community-wide campaign to “Welcome Our New Doctors” for Rod Henry, who is himself a newcomer to Temple and new president of the Temple Chamber of Commerce. This month, through the combined efforts of various city, business, educational and organizational partners, Temple will roll out a unified message on hundreds of banners and signs across town. The goal is that while these new residents are shopping at Temple Mall, going to a movie at Cinemark or going to church at First Baptist, their first impression of this friendly community will be a lasting one. This city-wide campaign serves to complement the increasingly successful annual Baylor Scott & White Community Showcase. Now in its third year, the Community Showcase

helps residents know where to shop, live, worship or send their kids to school, and it’s not uncommon to hear previous residents say, “I wish they had this when I first came to town!” Scheduled for June 27 at the Cultural Activities Center, booth spaces are nearly sold out and those interested in participating should contact the Chamber immediately. If your business is looking for other ways to cater to these new arrivals, then members of the Temple Chamber of Commerce should take advantage of the complimentary coupon portal on TempleTX.org, which will be promoted during orientation at Baylor Scott and White Health. In addition, submitting events to the “Community Calendar” is available to everyone and a great way to include the residents on what’s happening in our area. All of these efforts follow the mission of the Temple Chamber of Commerce in “preserving, protecting & promoting a business friendly environment, free of obstacles to growth and development,” which as a newcomer to Temple himself, Rod is hopeful will make an impact after entering the city limits.

Baylor Scott & White Community Showcase Friday, June 27 from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. Cultural Activities Center For more information and to reserve your booth for this exciting event, please contact Mikie Cummings, Director of Programs & Services, at (254) 773-2105 or email mikie@templetx.org.

Join fellow Temple Chamber of Commerce members as they promote their businesses and services to over 400 new and existing Baylor Scott & White Health Residents, Fellows and Senior Staff.

Message From the President “I am looking forward to welcoming the new residents and fellows of Baylor Scott & White Health to Temple. There will be single professionals, couples, and families who will be searching for people, places and businesses to help them settle in and feel at home. They will be buying homes, renting apartments, shopping for clothes, groceries, cars, furniture, looking for schools, parks and recreation. In other words, becoming a part of our community. I remember how scrambled I felt as a new Texan trying to find everything from a veterinarian to a place to have a car inspection done. To my astonishment, people stepped up and helped my wife and me…constantly…expecting nothing in return. That’s the amazing thing about Temple, Texas. You will not find a more welcoming and friendly place. Let’s be sure all of us help out our newcomers. We want them to feel what a real hometown is like! Temple, Texas—a family friendly place to call home!”
