INTERIOR LAYOUT

APARTMENTO POP GRAFITE / MELOLA ESTÚDIO

VARIATION 1
The first variation shows an example of the layout of the living space of a studio like apartment space. There is one balcony space and one greenery outdoor space for the resident. The open plan space is ideal for a more modern look but there is also an entryway to divide the space a bit.
VARIATION 2
For BUILDING UNIT ONE
I have chosen to use
APARTMENTO POP GRAFITE / MELOLA ESTÚDIO
interior layout to create room for individuals living alone. Using the plan as inspiration I have created two variations of the floor plan for this building.

This variation demonstrates the studio apartments that may fall on the corners of the building. With these apartments there is still an open plan living but it has slight division. In the bedroom space the resident would have a balcony area.
Throughout BUILDING UNIT ONE there will be apartments that follow along the layout of these two variations.
BUILDING UNIT ONE

FIRST FLOOR
Is the reception area and where all the lifts and stairs to the upper levels are located as well as the gym which is unique to that building. Also, there is access to the underground carpark which is the same as the Icona Point carpark.
SECOND FLOOR/FIFTH-SEVENTH FLOOR
The second floor is a communal space for the residents which includes lounge areas and other amenities. The layout of this floor is completely open plan to promote social interaction. From this floor there is also access to the bridge which leads to BUILDING UNIT TWO.
THIRD - FOURTH FLOOR
These floors are residential areas. With various variations of a studio apartment for individuals. From the third floor there is also a bridge to BUILDING UNIT TWO also.
EIGHTH – TENTH FLOOR
The eighth floor is a communal space and a rooftop space and the 9th and 10th floors are residential areas.
ELEVENTH – THIRTEENTH FLOOR
The eleventh floor is a communal space also with a large rooftop space for residents. The 12th and 13th floor are larger studio apartments.
These are the example floor plans for BUILDING UNIT ONE

TIETGEN DORMITORY

VARANDA APARTMENT/ESTUDIO GUTO REQUENA
This variation shows the shared living space of BUILDING UNIT TWO. There are two sets of lift spaces on the floor for the residents to access the space. There is a shared living room, kitchen and toilet. The living space will have an open plan like VARANDA APARTMENT/ESTUDIO GUTO REQUENA to provide a sense of community amongst people living. On this floor in particular has five bedrooms that will resemble a similar interior TIETGEN DORMITORY to interior layout.

For BUILDING UNIT TWO I have chosen to use interior layout of VARANDA APARTMENT/ESTUDIO GUTO REQUENA and TIETGEN DORMITORY to create an apartment unit for share student living as well as studio living similar to BUILDING UNIT ONE . Using the plan as inspiration I have created a variation of the floor plan for this building.

FINAL MODEL
SKETCHUP

For the final design I have chosen to make a combination levels of detail of the design. One that is a section and one simplified only showing the overall form and difficult to make a full model of the design demonstrating the balcony and the intricate panelling I have created model of the overall design. Using 2D design I was necessary for the model. Then using cardboard and illustrating the design.
2D DESIGN

combination of models demonstrating different detail of the balcony and panel design site overall. This is because it would be demonstrating all the detail in the model. Showing have chosen to create a section to construct the components polypropylene I constructed a model

If I were to improve this model, I would change the materials used from cardboard MDF and add white card the roof so that is like the simplified model of the design.

FINAL MODEL SIMPLIFIED
Here are a few more closeups of the final model. These demonstrate the details I have included in the final model.

FINAL MODEL

Here are more pictures of the simplified overall model of the ICONA POINT redesign,
I have also assessed the making of the model so that I know what improvements I would make if I were to make this model again.

THINGS I DID WELL
• Good contrast of material - I was able to use a good combination of materials to ensure that the site remains interesting whilst still having the main model stand out
• I was successful in bringing my design to life
THINGS THAT COULD BE IMPROVED
• I could have attempted to include miniature models of the public space additions
• I also should have found a way to add the window design curves at the bottom of the design as it would bring the overall design together.
OVERALL SITE DESIGN

Finally, I have presented the final design in SketchUp in full detail that may have been missed in the physical models that I had created.
Here are the public space additions in context where I have chosen to place them on the site.

I have successful redesigned the ICONA POINT incorporating themes of movement and flow & organic form in the design. This social housing has now become more fitting with the developing area. The unique forms allows it differentiate from other buildings.

The gym which is located at the bottom of the housing complex in each building unit would follow the standard aesthetic of gyms It will allow for residents to feel as though they are able to have activities close by.

The materials of the building consists of wood and stone like textures as it best suits the building

I have successfully been able to redesign the Icona Point residential building into an inclusive social housing structure. At the start of the project, I analysed the site to gauge an understanding of what features Icona Point is lacking and how it can be modernised it fit surrounding buildings. Which have been redeveloped to accommodate for the gentrification of Stratford. I also researched various existing social housing and residential buildings that I can be inspired from to create my design. The main buildings from my research I was able to take inspiration from was the LAS AMERICAS HOUSING COMPLEX / SO-IL and COLLECTIVE ECOHOUSING LA CANOPÉE . These buildings allowed me to form the basic form for the overall housing complex. From this I was able to build aspects of organic form and movement and flow onto the exterior of the building. For the balcony of the building, I started with an initial sketch created from a model made inspired from my primary research of ripples in the water and the form of a bell pepper. I went on to experiment with this balcony design to see what it would look like as a repeated pattern. This allowed me to identify the one- dimensional nature to the design. From this I redesigned the balcony using Ma Yansong UNIC APARTMENTS / MAD ARCHITECTS design as inspiration to create a new balcony design. This balcony design was replicated better on the form of the building. For the site layout I designed a collection of structures: seating, walkthrough and playground. These would be added to the site to enhance the residents living experience. For my final model using 2D Design and the laser cutter I have been able to communicate my model in a simplified physical model, demonstrating the main form and balcony space.
I believe the most successful element overall of this design was the balcony as I was able to adapt and make amends to the design to make it functional. I also think it can incorporate a combination of movement and flow and organic form. An element of the design I would improve is the interior. In the future I would work more to look into the best way organise the space for the respective residents. Overall, I have been successful in redeveloping ICONA POINT Stratford and surrounding buildings to create a social/community housing unit that will keep up with the developing area of Stratford. It has been able to foster a sense of belonging, promote social interaction amongst residents.
