Good evening and welcome to Telford Ice Rink who recently celebrated their 40th Anniversary.
It’s great to see the ice rink still going strong in an era where so many venues seem to be on a downward spiral. We are lucky we have such a good venue, in a prime location and good support from the ice rink management. Congratulations on 40 years!
It’s been a very hectic, busy few weeks with lots going on and plenty of ups and downs We have had a poor start of the season, no question, we have underperformed and as a result we were in a position where we felt changes were required.
On top of that to suffer a blow to Devon with what looks to be a severe knee injury we were in a position where felt the addition of two new import players in David Thomson and Eric Henderson would be a good fit for us as they looked to move on from their time in Poland.
Unfortunately we had to make room in the roster and made the difficult decision to release Zach, which was made even more difficult after a very impressive display last Sunday evening I can only say positive things about Zach and truly want to see him succeed at this level which I’m sure he will
BBC Radio Shropshire’s Paul Shuttleworth spoke with Tom Watkins following their three-game weekend last week, picking up four out of a potential six points
Last weekend saw us play three games in three days and pick up four from six points available, all against teams who have had a very strong start to the season.
Two big wins to set some standards, build some confidence and put us in a stronger position certainly in the cup table.
Telford Tigers head into another exciting week of action-packed fixtures. First, they’ll travel to face the Bristol Pitbulls on the road, then return to home ice to take on the Romford Raiders. Fans can also enjoy a special mid-week half-term matchup against the Peterborough Phantoms With two wins from three games last weekend, Tigers are keen to keep building momentum. Let’s get that rink rocking!

TIGERSWELCOME NEW CANADIANDUO
The club can confirm they have agreed terms with two Canadian players, David Thomson and Eric Henderson. 27-year-old forward Thomson and 26-yearold Henderson will join Telford Tigers after initially signing with the STS Sanok squad in Poland at the start of the 2024/25 season.
Thomson’s playing career has seen him ice in various Western leagues including the North American Hockey League and East Coast Hockey League before making a break into Europe. Thomson’s stint in Europe saw him ice for Vimmerby HC, competing in the HockeyEttan league where he put up a respectable 20 point in 24 games.
David is looking forward to joining the Telford roster commenting;
“I’m very excited to be a Tiger. I’ve heard nothing but good things about how the players are treated and the desire to win within the locker room Ultimately, I’m excited to help the team have a deep playoff run and play for a professional organisation ”
Henderson similarly started out his playing career across Canada and the US, including staring in line ups in the Ontario Hockey League, U Sports University League and Southern Professional Hockey League Henderson similarly made the move into European hockey joining the STS Sanok squad in Poland earlier this year
Eric is also excited to be signing with Telford Tigers saying;
“I am super excited to be joining such a great organisation like Telford. Being part of a passionate and dedicated team is a great opportunity for myself I look forward to meeting everyone and contributing to the teams success!”
Telford Tigers Head Coach and General Manager commented on the two additions saying;
“It’s been a poor start to the season for us, performances and results aren’t to the level that we believe we are capable of and collectively as a team we are responsible. Regrettably we have to let someone go and unfortunately have made the difficult decision to release Zach, but this should be a wake up call to every player in that locker room.
We have been fortunate to secure two players who we have spent a lot time researching, scouting and building a picture of We have spoken to former coaches and teammates, all who have positive comments about both these indivdiuals as players and people who will bring more quality and leadership to the team.
Eric is a guy with good size, a strong two way player with the ability to help improve both our PP & PK. David is a skilled centre who is good in the face of circle, a good shot and offensive instincts with the ability to see the ice
I think adding two players with the calibre and experience who know each other extremely well will help them settle in, with both guys extremely keen to arrive in the UK.”
