Dear Friends, What made the Holy Temple that stood in Jerusalem so special? What made it the heart of our people and a beacon of light for all humanity so real that we are still mourning its destruction and praying for its return after 2,000 years? It wasn’t the fancy architecture or the copious amounts of gold and silver used in its construction. It wasn’t the elaborate rituals, the awesome music, or the sense of royalty. It was the substance, the authenticity and holiness that impacted every individual – man, woman, child, Jew, gentile – who walked through its gates. You could check your facade at the door and be the real you, and you would be embraced as a child of G-d. This is our model.

Imagine that our community could have a place where everyone feels at home. We’ve been dreaming about this place for a while now, and it’s finally becoming a reality. The Merrin Chabad Community Center at Stony Brook is more than just a magnificent facility – it is a home away from home that embraces and nurtures every individual. That’s what makes this place unique. It’s not just a community center. It’s not just another synagogue. It is a place people will come not just for great programs, but to just be. To experience its warmth. To be nurtured by its authenticity. To learn from and connect to one another. It will be a place of innovative community development, a source of inspiration for our children and a model for other communities to emulate.
