“A different kind of place.”
1
Over the years, you’ve come to know and appreciate Chabad as: a mystical philosophy based on Kabbalah. a Chasidic group that celebrates Jewish life and community, and emphasizes loving every Jew. a movement inspired by the Rebbe to bring the love to every Jew, wherever he or she may be.
And because of these qualities and values, Chabad is the most dynamic force in the Jewish world today.
3
In the sixties, Chabad started opening Chabad Houses — centers where people could connect to their community, to their heritage, and to their souls - in their own way. No need to conform. No judgement. Just be you. Wherever Jews went, Chabad Houses would quickly follow and people would gravitate, attracted by the sincerity and love, to forge communities. Many say that they revolutionized the Jewish landscape by creating space where everyone could be involved. Well, they definitely spread a lot of love,
with over 3,000 centers around the world.
5
By the late eighties, Chabad Houses were all over South Florida, and Boca Raton had two. In 1999, Jews started moving closer to the city, so Chabad appointed Rabbi Ruvi and Ahuva New to serve them, and Chabad of East Boca was born. Local Jews started to come together. It started off slowly and humbly, with programs and services being run out of the New’s living room. Gradually, the positive energy, caring, and sense of community drew more people. Different types of Jews of all ages and backgrounds and interests found a home - with classes, Shabbat meals, children’s programs, holiday celebrations, singles events, and
more.
7
More Jews started moving into East Boca. It is, after all, a beautiful place to live: On the ocean, close to the highway, with a vibrant cultural and social life, and with easy access to schools. All of this makes Boca a great place to live, to raise a young family, to retire, to spend winters, or to visit as a tourist. As more people discovered this gem of a town, the core community and number of visitors gradually grew. To accommodate the growth, Chabad moved into a small storefront and then to the modest center they currently occupy. And now, fifteen years later, a group of diverse residents has blossomed into a beautiful community. Despite the accomplishments and pride in the community, something was holding back the East Boca Jewish community from truly blossoming to its fullest potential. Lacking a permanent home, and with limited space and amenities in its current rented facilities, some would move away to more established communities with larger facilities, while others were reluctant to make East Boca their home. People touched by Chabad couldn’t help thinking:
“Imagine… if only we had a permanent Jewish center that our community could call home!” With the construction boom in East Boca, and thousands more people expected to move to the area in the next few years, Chabad is resolved to build that center, one that will serve the needs of the community - today and into the future.
What can you expect to find in this new community center? The same love and quality programs as before, of course, but more of it. Much more. And it will continue to be a different kind of place, a place that everyone can call home.
9
The Harry & Celia Litwak Chabad Center will be a beautiful and inviting place for people to gather, and a fitting home for the community’s exciting programs.
We are a community that knows how to celebrate Jewish life with tremendous energy and joy, coupled with profound meaning. For holiday programs, family celebrations, concerts, and more, the community scrambles to rent outside venues – a practice that is expensive and inefficient. The new Chabad Center will solve these issues while giving the community the meeting place it needs in order to flourish, and a central home for Jewish life in East Boca.
The Machon Menachem Rabbinical College, Chabad’s flagship center for higher learning, leadership development and community outreach (including the popular My Big Chaver program), has grown consistently. The new Center will provide the space for these programs to function properly and continue to grow.
“There’s no better place to find traditional Judaism than Chabad. There’s also no better place to live than East Boca Raton. The symbiosis of a new Chabad Center and East Boca Raton, both thriving, growing entities is almost… let’s say “magical”. We’re excited to be part of it all!” — MARLA & PERRY BIRMAN
Participants appreciate the quality opportunities to learn and gather that are provided by Chabad programs, such as the acclaimed Adult Education courses and Rosh Chodesh Society. The new Center will provide a home and hub for all of this activity, and allow the programs to further diversify and develop. Additional benefits of the center include outdoor spaces for casual gatherings and social events for young professionals that will attract participants on the fringe of Jewish involvement.
Chabad — which revolutionized the Jewish landscape in 1960s by creating a space where everyone could be involved in community — will now heighten that experience in East Boca Raton with its trailblazing coupling of the spiritual connectivity of a new Chabad Center with debut of the MyIsrael Center.

Drive across the city’s downtown, and it’s easy to see a city about to grow expansively. The clanking of construction can be heard from the sites of four buildings that will reach heights of seven to 12 stories. When completed, they’ll provide 1,181 new rental apartments. Two other 12-story buildings are poised to begin construction: A 170-unit condo building and the downtown’s first hotel, which will have 200 rooms. The city will feel the impact of this downtown growth spurt during the next couple of years, as renters and owners settle into these high-rises. Some call it the near-realization of a vision set out by city voters 23 years ago — one that calls for the heart of the city evolving into a metropolitan destination. The latest buildings will help redefine the downtown skyline, and city leaders say they’ll also provide a muchneeded boost to downtown.
