BLOOMING DAYS

THE PRESS-NEWS JOURNAL’S WEBSITE

CINDY KELL RECEIVES CERTIFICATION Cynthia Kell has been certified as a Missouri Registered City Clerk (MRCC) from the Missouri City Clerks and Finance Officers Association. MoCCFOZ, an organization with a current membership of over 500, is dedicated to the education of City Clerks and Finance Officers throughout the state of Missouri. Establishment of State Certification in 2003 was a monumental step in demonstrating the professionalism of the Missouri City Clerk and is based on a combination of education and experience. Attendance at various MoCCFOA educational venues provided by Missouri State University offers information pertinent to Missouri City Clerks on policies, rules and regulations governing municipalities within the State of Missouri. Ms. Kell was recognized for her achievement during the 2013 Spring Institute banquet in Columbia.

offices recently relocated to LaGrange in the old Presbyterian Church. The building has been completely restored. The PressNews Journal Office is located in the downstairs of the building, while the upstairs houses the corporate offices. The building was purchased two years ago by one of the PressNews Journal owners, Bob Ely. He contracted River City Restoration to restore the structure. The Press-News Journal was purchased by Bob Ely and Phil Calian in 2010 from the Steinbeck family who had owned the newspaper since the 1960s. The newspaper has been serving Lewis County since 1862. The Presbyterian Church was built in the 1840s and continued to be a church until the late 1970s when low membership forced the church to close and was vacant for several years. The building had been abandoned since 1993. It was in danger of being demol-

ished until Robert Ely purchased and restored the structure to use as a newspaper office. The new offices are located at 109 North Fourth Street at the intersection of Fourth and Jefferson Street. The office is east of the LaGrange Community Youth Center, near the LaGrange Methodist Church and the Green Chapel Church. The phone number, emails and mailing addresses all remain the same as before. The phone number is (573) 288-5668 and the mailing address in P.O. Box 227, Canton, Mo. 63435. Hours are 9 a.m. To 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Visitors to the open house can tour both floors of the building. The downstairs is handicapped accessible, to reach the upstairs portions there is an outside staircase. Refreshments will be served. Hours for the open house will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Everyone is invited to the event.
