SPRING ARRIVES FINALLY

PRESS-NEWS JOURNAL NEW LOCATION The Press-News Journal has moved to their new location at 109 North Fourth in LaGrange in the former Presbyterian Church building. The building has been completely restored. The newspaper office will be located in the lower level of the building. The first date of operation in LaGrange was April 1. The phone number is 573288-5668. Email addresses for the newspaper will remain the same. The post office box will continue to be P.O. Box 227, Canton, Mo. 63435 An open house will be held April 19.

LAGRANGE ELECTION APRIL 16 The LaGrange City Election will be held April 16, will all races unopposed. Ronnie Powers, current mayor is running unopposed, as is north ward councilman Mike Lowe. Edward Cox is running as a writein for middle ward councilman. In the south ward, Lannie Henze is now running unopposed, due to Andy Slater’s withdrawal from the race. No one filed for city marshall, so that position will be vacated for the next two years. Voting will take place at the LaGrange City Hall council chambers with polls open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

CONCEAL AND CARRY PERMIT APPLICANTS David Parrish, Lewis County Sheriff reports that recently the Sheriff ’s Office has received reports of CCW(Carrying Concealed Weapon) Instructors failing to meet the requirements of law while teaching a course. Remember an instructor must be pre-approved by the Sheriff in order for the applicant to be processed for the CCW permit. The Sheriff ’s Office has a list of approved providers. Contact the Sheriff ’s Office for any questions.

Cecil Morrow Honored Larry Hackemack, LaBelle Mayor, presents a plaque of appreciation to Cecil Morrow, who has served on the LaBelle City Council for 37 years.

Rita Cox Editor rita1@lewispnj.com An open house at the LaBelle City Hall was held April 5 honoring Cecil Morrow. Mr. Morrow is retiring from the LaBelle City Council after serving 37 years. He said he has seen a lot of changes in the town over the years. He was a business owner and was elected to the LaBelle City Council in 1976. Mr. Morrow celebrated his 90th birthday in September. Many friends and relatives stopped by the open house to visit and wish him well and congratulate him on his many years of public service. A plaque honoring his years of service was presented by LaBelle Mayor Larry Hackemack.

LEWIS COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE MAKES FELONY ARRESTS The Lewis County Sheriff ’s Office arrested Brian A. Griggs, 26, of Lewistown, Mo on one count of Domestic Assault in the Second Degree on April 1, 2013. Griggs is alleged to have assaulted his girlfriend at their residence during the night of March 31 and/or April 1, 2013. He is alleged to have attempted to cut his girlfriend with a knife. The victim sustained minor injuries and did not seek medical treatment. Griggs remains incarcerated in the Lewis County Jail in lieu of

$20,000 cash only bond. The LCSO was assisted by the Marion County Sheriff ’s Department and the MSHP. The Sheriff ’s Office arrested Roman L. Lay, 27, of Lewistown, Missouri, April 4 on two counts of Forgery, a class C felony. Lay is alleged to have stolen checks from a person in Lewistown, Missouri in late March 2013. He then allegedly forged two checks in the victim’s name at local convenience stores. Lay, was recently released from the Missouri Department of

Corrections and remains on parole, remains incarcerated in the Lewis County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash only bond. On April 4, 2013 the Sheriff ’s Office arrested Paul A. Hendrian, 36, of Quincy, Illinois on failure to pay child support, a class D felony. Hendrian is alleged to have failed child support as required to by the court order. He remains lodged in the Lewis County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash only bond.
